EU PROGRES IN PRIJEPOLJE 13 Projects Number of projects approved EU PROGRES’ support has greatly improved the human resources in Prijepolje municipality, thus creating conditions for more efficient work of municipal administration.” 1 Inter-municipal project Number of projects approved Emir Hašimbegović 315,418 Euros Mayor of Prijepolje Total value of approved projects Programme funded by EU Implementing partner RECENT SUCCESS Ecological Heating Brings Savings The biomass heating boilers were installed in the municipal building, kindergarten and the Technical and Economy Schools, with the financial support of 89,665 Euros from the European Union and the Government of Switzerland, through EU PROGRES. Besides these institutions, Prijepolje Museum, which is attached to the heating system in the municipal building, has also benefitted from the project. All three boiler rooms used coal before intervention, had shabby boilers that caused great energy loss, and had high maintenance costs. Unlike coal, pellet is ecologically clean fuel made from the pressed wood, with 95% utilisation. Pellet heating contributes to decreasing the greenhouse gas emission and improves management of wood waste. The experts estimate that municipal budget will save 20% of funds for heating, which, along with the ecological aspect, contributes to economical management. The municipality is continuing the work on “Green Economy” by planning to install similar pellet based heating systems in other institutions in the town, starting with the Prijepolje Hospital. LIST OF EU PROGRES PROJECTS IN PRIJEPOLJE Good Governance Supporting Youth Activism After training for 60 young people on activism, three teams for cultural, architectural and environmental issues were formed. Each team was responsible for organization of one public action including branding of Prijepolje, beautification of a public space and cleaning of the town's stream. The workshop for children from all ethnic groups resulted in publishing of 500 copies of the book “Prijepolje from the child perspective". 570 Euros 5,051 Euros Women participation in local communities elections This project motivated and empowered five women to participate in the local communities’ elections scheduled for November 2013. 853 Euros 7,100 Euros Youth HUB The opening of Prijepolje HUB gave youth a gathering place from which they can organize campaigns, public lectures and seminars, conduct artistic and music workshops, social business planning, support peers in finding jobs. Two young people were employed part-time by the Municipality to give support to the HUB operations. 882 Euros 7,711 Euros Women participation in Decision-Making Process As a result of capacity building of the Gender Equality Council, a Declaration for improvement of women's position was drafted and supported by the Gender Equality Council of the Republic of Serbia. Through a number of public actions, the project promoted gender equality to a wider audience. It gave the strategic development priorities for organization and landscaping of the municipal territory, revitalization of the existing as well as creation of new contents based on natural resources, creates values and long term needs of economic and social development of the Municipality. 10,796 Euros 78,094 Euros Preparation of the Foreign Direct Investment Plan The Foreign Direct Investment plans offer a set of tools that promote the municipality as a desirable and attractive location for investment. Development of FDI Plans contributes to creation of municipal/city images that is tailored to the needs and demands of investors. The Plan also promotes comparative advantages of a local government in terms of investment and promote services that create business friendly environment. - 16,680 Euros Infrastructure Introduction of biomass for heating The installed heating systems using biomass fuel records a trend of savings: 10% or 4,000 Euros in Technical and Economy Schools and 45%, or 7,000 Euros saved compared to the previous heating season. The pellet-based boilers in municipal building, kindergarten and two schools are environmentally friendly. Containers for collection of solid waste Prijepolje received 100 containers of 1.1m3 and four containers of 5m3, which fully satisfied the needs of the municipality, according to the Local Waste Management Strategy. The project is a part of the bigger inter-municipal initiative that deals with the implementation of the Regional Solid Waste Management Strategy for Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varoš and Sjenica. Currently, only 60% inhabitants of Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varoš and Sjenica are included into the waste collection, while the Banjica Landfill should cover the entire population of more than 109,351 people.
