Company History
Gila River Telecommunications Inc.
Gila River Telecommunications, Inc. (GRTI) was
established on July 6, 1988 for the purpose of providing
the Gila River Indian Community with affordable
telephone services. GRTI has grown with the vast
growth of the community and providing a variety of
telecommunication services. GRTI has a work force of
62 employees, with almost 65% being Native American
and Community members. There is a five-member board
who oversees GRTI and they are all GRIC community
members.

more than 600 miles of boundaries of the Gila River
Indian Community.
The GRTI building and Network Operations headquarters
in the Lone Butte Industrial Park provides more services
for residential and business opportunities on the Gila
River Indian Community.
In the beginning, about 20 percent of the residential
homes on GRIC had phone service. If a resident wanted
phone service, they were sometimes quoted thousands of
dollars by Qwest. One house hold was quoted $24,000.
The Gila River Indian Community took action and first
started with two customers in 1988. From that humble
beginning, the infrastructure has grown to accommodate
about 63 percent of the households on GRIC.
GRTI has more than 3,400+ access lines which includes
business and residential. This includes phone lines,
Internet, High Speed (DSL) Internet and data lines.
GRTI continues to bring the latest services and next
generation technology to the community. This includes an
improvement plan with more than 200 miles of fiber optic
cable to date.

Company History
Alluvion Communications
Alluvion Communications is the Competitive Local
Exchange Company (“CLEC”) owned by Gila River
Telecommunications, Inc (“GRTI”). GRTI provides
telecommunications services throughout the seven
districts of the Gila River Indian Community, Alluvion
Communications provides telecommunication services
to businesses and government organizations (schools,
libraries, hospitals, etc.) located outside and beyond the
borders of the Gila River Indian Community.
An important distinction between GRTI and Alluvion
Communications is that Alluvion Communications
only provides commercial telecommunication services
while GRTI provides both residential and commercial
telecommunication services. Still, the most important
distinction between the two companies is that
Alluvion Communications provides services beyond
the borders to the Gila River Indian Community.
Alluvion Communications is authorized to transact
telecommunication services within the state of Arizona
by the State of Arizona “ACC” or Arizona Corporation
Commission, Utility Division.

Provided to businesses located within and around, but
not limited to, the Lone Butte Industrial Park. This service
allows customers located in the Phoenix metro area
the ability to call your business phone number without

Billing Disputes
GRTI retains the right to disconnect service for nonpayment of telephone charges. A customer may
dispute a bill, or any charge on a bill, by calling,
writing or visiting a Customer Service & Sales
Representative at GRTI offices. The Customer
Service & Sales Representative will investigate
the question or dispute and report the findings
to the customer. GRTI will not disconnect service
for non-payment of a disputed charge while GRTI
investigates, provided that all other undisputed
charges are paid when due.
If the customer is dissatisfied with the results of
the investigation, he or she may request a meeting
with the Customer Service & Sales Supervisor. If
still dissatisfied, the dispute may be taken to the
General Manager, who will have the final authority
to resolve the dispute. Ay any time in the process
the customer will have the opportunity to present
any facts or documents relating to the disputed bill.
Only after this process is completed, and if the
matter is resolved in GRTI’s favor, will service be
disconnected.
The Gila River Indian Community Council has
the authority to hear and resolve billing disputes
after the procedure described above has been
completed.

carrier. Instructions may differ in accordance with the
long distance carrier used. GRTI is able to block collect
and third-party calls as well as provide competitive long
distance rates without additional fees or monthly charges.

With Equal Access you will be able to select a long distance
company including Gila River Long Distance, to handle
your local toll (Intralata) and long distance (Interlata) calls,
which you will automatically access when dialing “1+.” For
more information about Equal Access, call our Customer
Service and Sales Center at 520-796-3333. Changes in the
telephone industry have made it possible for both your
long distance and local telephone companies to compete
for your toll dollars.

• Operator-Assistance – Highest rates
Operator assistance is required to make the following
types of calls. Charges in addition to the dial direct rates
will apply. To use, dial 0+area code+number.
— Station to Station: Call station-to station if you
wish to talk with anyone who answers. Charging begins
when the call is answered.
— Person to Person: Call person-to-person when
you wish to talk to a particular person or extension. Tell
the operator you wish to make a “person-to-person” call.
Rates are higher than station-to-station. Charging starts
when talking begins.
— Collect: You can call collect if the person you are

To Retrieve Messages

Phone Services
Calling Features
Caller ID - $3.50 - Identify callers before you pick up
the phone with Caller ID. Caller ID shows the incoming
caller’s phone number, plus the date and time of the call
on a special display unit (sold separately). Caller ID is a
great deterrent for prank phone calls.
Warm Line - $2.00 - Allows a customer 30 seconds
to dial a number before a predesignated number is
automatically dialed. Warm Line is ideal for elderly
persons, children home alone or for emergencies.
Distinctive Ringing/Call Waiting - $2.50 - You’re
on the phone with a friend. Call Waiting lets you know if
someone is trying to reach you. If the caller is someone
important such as your boss, spouse or client; Distinctive
Ringing/Call Waiting identifies important calls with a
distinctive Call Waiting tone or ring. Other non-priority
calls receive the usual Call Waiting tone.
Speed Dialing - $2.00 for 8 or $3.00 for 30
Teen Line Service - $3.00 - Allows you to add an

trying to reach you on the phone, a busy signal is more
than an inconvenience – it could be costing you money.
With Call Forward Busy, if someone dials your number
and receives a busy signal, the call can automatically be
transferred to another number you specify – such as your
spouse, business partner, co-worker or assistant, even if
they’re somewhere else.

Call Forward Remote Access - $2.00 - Call
Forward Remote Access can be used to turn off or change
the number your calls are forwarded to from a touch-tone
phone with touch-tone services.

Call Waiting - $3.00 - You won’t miss another
important call! When you hear a special tone, simply put
the first caller on hold and answer the second call. Call
Waiting puts the power to regulate calls at your fingertips.
Automatic Callback - $2.50 - Automatic Callback
continues to dial and re-dial busy numbers, alerting you
as soon as busy lines become open again. It even allows
you to continue to make and receive other calls, while
Automatic Callback pursues those callers with busy phone
lines. Key commands: *66 (on) - *89 (off)
Selective Call Forwarding - $2.50 - For years,
people have left home for the evening wondering what
important calls they might be missing, wishing there was
a way calls could hunt and find you. Call Forwarding is
the system that makes special pre-selected calls reach you
when you are away from home or office. Expecting an
important call? Simply program in their number and let
Selective Call Forwarding send calls from those numbers
to you. Key commands: *63 (on) - #01# (add)
Selective Call Acceptance - $2.50 - You’ve just sat
down to a family dinner when your phone rings. Is it a call
from someone you want to talk to or another unwanted
sales call? With Selective Call Acceptance, you program
in the phone numbers of those callers you know you’ll
wish to speak to if they should call.

Selective Call Rejection - $2.50 - Perhaps it’s a
persistent teenage caller or sales person who won’t take
“No” for an answer. With Selective Call Rejection, once

Stutter Tone Notififcation - You will be notified of
new voice mail messages with a stutter dialtone when you

It’s an exciting time for the family
Bringing phone service to a home that has never
had service before can be a lengthy process. We
have offered some tips to make sure the process
runs smoothly for everyone.

Agreement for your new home phone service.

Travelling Tips
1. Arrive two hours before flight departs.
2. Avoid wearing clothing, jewelry or other accessories that
contain metal.
3. Wear shoes that are easy to take on and off.
4. Liquids, gels and aerosols should be in a 3 ounce bottle
or less. All liquid containers must fit into a 1 quart-sized,
clear, plastic, zip-top bag.
5. One quart bag per passenger.
Passengers are allowed 1 carry on bag and a personal bag
such as purse, backpack or laptop bag. If in doubt, put
your liquids in checked luggage. Declare larger liquids.
Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are
allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces
and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these
items for inspection at the checkpoint.
Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and
the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at
security checkpoints.
