TRIATHLON SUCCESS – THANK YOU
Thank you to all the volunteers who made the triathlon such a success this year including the
Siperas, Giquintos, Tressels and Howells. As always, the race was completely sold out and
we had about 400 racers. Special thanks to MLPD and keeping the event safe for racers and
spectators once again. Thank you to the emergency ambulance crew, the borough and the
colony for their support. Thank-you Kendall Wolson for designing this year’s t-shirt logo.
Thanks to our sponsor James Matthews of Matthews Chiropractic. Thanks to the Medford
Lakes Lifeguards. Also a BIG thank-you to the cadets from the Jack Schweiker Composite
Squadron Civil Air Patrol unit. Please consider making a donation to this group on their
website. We had many Medford Lakes’ individual racers and teams. Jason Sharpe was the
top Laker finisher.

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY INVITATION
The Protestant Community Church invites the community to celebrate the third annual
International Peace Day on Sunday, September 18th, with two workshops beginning at
11:00 AM in Memorial Hall on Mohawk Trail.
Dr. Michail Livingston, Executive Minister at the Riverside Church in Manhattan, and his
wife, Nancy, of the SEED organization, will lead in interactive workshop that equips us to
connect our lives to one another and to society at large by acknowledging systems of
oppression, power and privilege, without blame, shame, or guilt.
Dr. Rafey Habib returns for the third time to facilitate reflection on the "All Are Welcome"
theme through poetry and discussion. He will read from his book Shades of Islam poems
about various aspects of Islam that are in the limelight today, such as the hijab, the treatment
of women, the condemnation of terrorism, and the essential vision of Islam.
A lunch will be provided after the two workshops. The lunch will provide an opportunity to
meet individually with the workshop presenters.
Our sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Wayne Smith as we hear the heartbreaking news It's with heavy hearts that we tell you our son Wayne passed suddenly a few weeks ago. He
lived in Point Pleasant Beach and worked in NYC and around the world as a General
Adjuster for large losses wit major insurance companies. He was heavily involved in Tinton
Falls youth sports as a coach for baseball, football, and soccer.
He leaves behind us, his brother Justin, sister Shannon, his daughter Samantha and son
Evan. Many nieces and nephews as well as friends. He was 46. Too soon.

On Monday, October 3 the Medford Lakes Country Club will host the Fifth Annual Carol
B. Smith Memorial Golf Tournament with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. All checks and

ML GARDEN CLUB MEETING
The Medford Lakes Garden Club will have a meeting in Vaughan Community Hall on
Wednesday, September 21st (not the 14th), beginning at 11:30 am with a luncheon. Local
artist Diane Emerson will be demonstrating, as well as holding a workshop, on how to make
low fire ceramic tiles using nature based impressions. The workshop is limited to members,
but the demonstration is very informative and classes will be held again. If you wish to join
the Garden Club or would like more information, please contact Medford Lakes Garden
President, Josie Carfagno, at 609-654-7068.
FYI - CAT ISSUES
The Colony office has been asked more than once, “Everyone is aware of the leash law for
dogs but what about cats?” If you have a cat that roams the trails please be considerate of
your neighbors. Indoor cats are terribly bothered by an outdoor cat visiting their yard. Plus
many people enjoy feeding birds, the outdoor cats cause all kinds of issues.
How can you train your cat to stay in your yard? There are resources available. Visit
