MEMBER DUES RELIEF FUND Medford Lakes is a snapshot of America, where some neighbors are facing financial hardship due to unemployment, underemployment, family health emergencies, or the like. As much as Colonists are at the ready to help their neighbors, financial struggles often remain private and go unspoken. A Dues Relief Fund was set-up again for 2015 – a temporary, partial dues relief for active Colonists. You’re encouraged to: 1) Give what you can to help a neighbor to fully participant in our Colony. Donate through your 2015 Colony bill or any time during the year at the Colony Office. 2) Let us know if you’d like to be considered for partial dues relief. An application will be available in the Colony Office starting March 1st. We are just beginning to raise funds and want to reach as many neighbors as we can. Whatever is raised will be distributed in a confidential, fair manner. Questions can be directed to Millie Linett at the Colony Office – 609-654-7747 or office@medfordlakescolony.org. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service, sponsors a FREE income tax counseling service in Medford Lakes for taxpayers. Trained volunteers will be available every Tuesday morning from February 3, 2015 through April 14, 2015, 8:30 AM until 12:30 PM in Vaughan Community House, Tabernacle Road at Powhatan Trail, to assist taxpayers. Volunteers can prepare noncomplex federal and New Jersey income tax returns, New Jersey real estate tax rebate forms, review returns prepared by taxpayers, or consult on specific questions which taxpayers may have. Taxpayers do not have to be AARP members nor senior citizens to use this service. Also, remember that the royal blue Medford Lakes beach towel is here for sale, ($23.00). The hand ($12.00) and finger ($10.00) towel, aprons ($23.00) and flag ($36.00) are here all year round as well. We also have yellow undershirts for the new babies in town ($11.00). The Affordable Care Act requires 2014 tax returns to report if taxpayers and their dependents had health insurance during all of 2014. Those who purchased health insurance for themselves and/or their dependents through the Marketplace/Exchange, received Advanced Premium Tax Credits or must make Shared Responsibility Payments (you know who you are!) must bring the relevant information, including Form 1095-A provided by your health insurance company, so that volunteers can properly prepare your tax return. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!!! PRESIDENT'S DINNER - SATURDAY, FEB. 7, 2015 Please join the Colony Club at the Medford Lakes Country Club to celebrate the presidency of Jim Palmer. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will begin at 6:30 PM and dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. Please contact Rachael Urban at rachaelurban@yahoo.com with any questions and call the Colony Office at 609-654-7747 to reserve your seats Volunteers prepare federal and New Jersey income tax returns by computer and file them electronically at no cost. Electronic filing usually results in more accurate preparation and processing and faster receipt of refunds. The most rapid refund receipt occurs with direct deposit to taxpayers' bank accounts. To receive refunds this way taxpayers' bank account numbers must be included on returns, so bring this information with you, a blank check from your account is best. Those taxpayers who anticipate making payments need not actually pay the balance of tax due until April 15, 2015, even though the return is electronically filed before then. In addition to all of the information needed to prepare 2014 income tax returns, including the cost basis of any investments sold, we ask that taxpayers bring copies of their 2013 tax returns. Those arriving at Vaughan Community House without these items will be asked to go and get them before being able to see a counselor.
