First Annual
MAUMEE BAY RIVER FESTIVAL
Celebrating a healthy Lake Erie and it’s largest tributary
Toledo Blade
Toledo Blade
Sunday, September 30, 1-10pm
Maumee Bay Brewing Company – outside at the Oliver House
27 Broadway St., downtown Toledo (near the High Level Bridge)
Help celebrate the Toledo area’s greatest asset - our water! Proceeds will further Lake Erie
Waterkeeper’s mission, “To preserve, protect, and improve the watersheds, waters, and fish of
Lake Erie, the Great Lakes’ warmest, shallowest, most biologically productive lake, and to
increase public awareness through collaboration, education and advocacy.”
Let's have some fun... take a Sandpiper boat ride...a walk along the river…visit the future Middlegrounds
Metropark…learn about our watershed...enjoy great music…sample your local brews…
The Maumee River is the Great Lakes’ fishiest watershed. It feeds western Lake Erie which has more
consumable fish than all the other Great Lakes combined. Water is Toledo's best kept secret. Water here is
cheap and good and we take it for granted…
Did you know that the Maumee River used to have so many fish that in the spring you could literally walk
across streams on fish? Did you know that there were lots of bait shops along the Maumee and there were lunch
boats on the Maumee? Did you know that people would take boats from downtown Toledo to Presque Isle at the
mouth of the Maumee River to swim and fish? The European opera performed at Presque Isle and cottages in
the area rented for $85 a week. …Help us share this information and more with our community!
Did you know that sturgeon were abundant in the Maumee River? Groups have recently reestablished the
sturgeon in the Detroit Rive. How about helping to reestablish sturgeon in the Maumee? Let's celebrate the
Maumee River.
Lake Erie Waterkeeper, a 501c3, would appreciate your participation in the Maumee Bay River Festival.
The festival will celebrate the regions great waters and provide information on ways to help improve water
quality and fish. One of the goals of the festival is to provide funding to reestablish sturgeon in the Maumee
River.
The festival features boat rides on the Sandpiper, quality music, walks on Owens Corning campus and the
future Middlegrounds Metropark, water information, great food and special festival brews from the Maumee
Bay Brewing Co.
