istributech-2013 was the largest and most
prestigious U.S event held at San Diego
Convention Center, San Diego, California,
between January 29-31, 2013. It covered the
smart grid from-end-to-end, including automation
and control systems, energy efficiency, demand
response, renewable energy integration,
advanced metering, T&D system operation and
reliability, power delivery equipment and water
utility technology.
The conference held annually at various US
locations, featured 14 conference tracks, 78
conference sessions, over135 utility speakers and
350 speakers overall besides
21 Utility
University courses.
We always believe in making the most of industry
opportunities and ERLPhase PowerTechnologies,
Canada exhibited our Power System Recorder,
Line Protection Relay, Bus Protection Relay,
Transformer Protection Relay, Sub-hormonic
Protection Relay and other products
at
DistribuTECH. At the conference, René Midence,
Director of Technical Services, presented "IEC
61850 interoperability between recorders and
relays ", co-written with Hugo Davila and Nan
Zhang. The presentation room was almost full,
with about 40 to 50 attendants and some active
members of the working group responsible for IEC
61850. The presentation was good with active
participation by the audience.
The visitors to the show included those from
diverse careers from electric utilities, water and
gas utilities, rural electric co-op’s, municipalities
as well as other manufacturers of electrical
equipment. This is a large event which was quite
broad so it’s a small subset of the attendees who
were interested specifically in protection
equipment. Our participation in the show was a
big success and generated lot of leads.

ERL made a mark in October by exhibiting at the
Western Protective Relay Conference (Spokane,
Washington). René Midence, Director of
Technical Services presented the paper
"Sub-Harmonic Protection Application for
Interconnections of Series Compensated Lines
and Wind Farms”. This helped us refresh our
relationships with customers in this region.
It proved to be a smart move as many customers
showed interest in the S-PRO Sub-Harmonic

ERL Mint Wins Nigerian Order
From Fedders Lloyd Corp
Fedders Lloyd Corp is a globally renowned
company with a reputation for excellence and
quality. There are one of the major EPC located
in New Delhi with site offices in many countries
especially in the African continent.
ERL Marketing International (ERL Mint) won the
huge order for the supply and commissioning of
148 Control & Relay Panels from 33 to 330kV
with Substation Automation System for the
Power Holding Company of Nigeria through
Fedders Lloyds Corp Ltd. The order is worth
3 Million USD
ERL Mint had to compete with Siemens and
NARI to bag this order. Fedders Lloyd may be a
new customer but will be a permanent one.
We had consistently worked to bag this order.
The ERL Mint and ERL team spent a lot of time to
research panel by panel going into the BOM
and eliminating all those items that were not
necessary. In this process, the EPC realized
what exactly was in store for them. We gave
them just exactly what was needed. We agreed
to match the competition point by point and
explained the pitfalls the customer may
encounter. We made them feel that taking the
order was secondary while our primary task
was to help them understand the intricacies of
the CRP and substation Automation.
We believe that our USP has been giving the
customer the exact requirement at a competitive
price, offering the best in Relays and SAS and
meeting their stringent delivery schedules.
The project will commence in March 2013 and
get completed in June 2013. We congratulate
the teams who worked together to win this order
ERL Mint Bags Papillon Power Order
Whenever a new customer enters our fold,
it's cause for celebration at ERL Mint. We have
recently bagged an order from Papillon Power
Trading Co. WLL, Bahrain. The well-known
company has placed an order for 12kV Ring
Main Units (RMUs). We heartily congratulate
the team who had worked out a unique strategy
to win against strong contenders Lucy and
Schneider. Our winning edge was gaining
project based approval from the Bahrain utility
EDD, projecting the right price and strong
support from our agent.
The scope of work is the
supply of 3nos RMU
and the end user will be
the Peninsular Farm.
The time frame is 10
weeks. We are sure the
team will do a fabulous
job

ERL Teams Battle it Out
at the Quality Quiz
An Audio Visual Quiz on quality was
conducted at the Hosur unit of ERL on the
special day 12.12.12. We had 5 teams
comprising 5 members each drawn from
different functions. The event was spread
across three rounds. The first one was a
multiple choice question. The second was role
play where each team was given a quality
concept as their topic and 5 minutes to present
it in the form of a role play. This gave us
amazing insights into different quality
concepts and the participants displayed
immense talent in execution.
The third round was a audio visual round
where a random visual was played and
each team had to interpret what quality
concept was hidden in the visual
displayed. The participants involved
themselves enthusiastically and came up
with wonderful and creative answers to
each question thrown at them.
The team consisting of
Mr. A. Vishnuprasad (PSB-Assembly),
M r. G . S e k a r ( M a i n t e n a n c e ) ,
Mr. C. Satish Kumar (PSB – Tendering),
Mr. K. Ravichandran (SWG Operations) emerged as winners after
beating the tough competition.
Mrs. R. Mathuravani, Mr. A. Raja and
Mrs. M. Kalarani were the judges.
The quiz masters were Mr. K. Satish
Kumar and Mr. B. Buvanesh Kumar from
the HR team. Mr. R. Yogeshwar Rao was
the official scorer. The quiz was a huge
success.

Colorado Seminars Put ERL
Products in the Spotlight
ERL regularly connects with prospective customers
through seminars. We had recently conducted
seminars in Denver. These were well-organized
by ERLPhase and Energy Reps, our sales partner
in that area and had a large number of
participants.
For those interested, but could not attend,
we would be glad to offer a web-based seminar
too.

Customers Loved The TESLA Users Group Meeting
Following the MIPSYCON show, ERLPhase held a
one day TESLA Users Group Meeting on
November 8th in Minneapolis. This meeting plays
a key role in helping customers to gather to learn
and share their experiences with our products.
The group shared their technical experiences
about specific settings and record analysis,
expanding TESLA's use within present
applications, and exchanged application
knowledge about specific applications including
generating stations and wind farms. It was also
instrumental in helping us share our progress
about software plans and introduction of new
products such as TESLA I/O unit and the iTMU
Intelligent Transformer Management Unit with
them.
We heartily thank everyone who participated in
this Users Group meeting. We plan to hold a few
times each year in locations convenient for our
