Early Intervention
We understand autism … and we’re here to help Early Intervention “ Working with young children with autism very early on makes a difference in their lives: toddlers that have been in IEI are generally more independent, can stay on task better, and can communicate better. – a CSAAC Early Intervention Technician The building blocks for success Your child’s lifetime of learning begins with our Intensive Early Intervention (IEI) Services where your child will receive one-on-one attention to learn communication, social, academic, self-help, and daily living skills. Designed for children aged 18 months through 7 years, our IEI program also provides instruction to parents so you can connect with your child and support lifelong learning. CSAAC’s licensed psychologists, special educators, and behavioral technicians recognize that every child is different and they are focused on addressing your child’s specific needs. Our IEI program is designed to help your child acquire foundational skills to communicate, connect and succeed. Founded in 1979 by families of children with autism, Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC) is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to “enhancing the lives of individuals with autism.” CSAAC works alongside individuals with autism to provide personalized supports. A nationally-recognized leader in serving children and adults with autism, everyday CSAAC works with more than 300 individuals in our state-of-the-art facilities, which include classrooms, a gymnasium, a teaching kitchen, computer labs, and a job training center. Living & Learning Across the Lifespan “ Everybody from the Executive Director on down is very professional, caring, and they enjoy their work. – a CSAAC Parent “ “ Connections in the classroom and community Your child, aged 6 to 21 years, will learn in the classroom and in the community at the Community School of Maryland (CSM), a licensed, educational facility. At CSM, instruction is tailored to each student’s Individualized Education Program. Your child will gain skills that foster greater independence and personal growth. CSM uses functional teaching approaches designed to strengthen core subject skills and promote community participation. Through occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, vocational training community activities, and other programs such as horseback riding and 4-H, your child can learn to connect with peers both in and out of the classroom. For older students, a robust ready-for-work program exists designed to give them real work experence. Educational Services CSAAC went out of their way to find a job that was good for him; they tried to match him. He absolutely loves his work. – a CSAAC Parent A rich, satisfying future at work When your family member with autism is ready to join the workforce, CSAAC vocational training and employment services can help match his or her interests and abilities to a job that fits. Residential Support Services “ Before our son went to an all-day residential program, he really needed professional help, and [CSAAC] has made a huge difference. He has support staff he really loves and a place in the community. Had he been at home, he would have never been outside the house. – a CSAAC Parent Independence, confidence, and a place to call home As your child matures, and his or her needs become more sophisticated, we offer Residential Support Services to encourage confidence through independent living. Your family member will have his or her own room in a townhome, apartment, or house and have opportunities to engage with other members of the community. Your family member’s home will be staffed around the clock by counselors who foster a positive, enriching environment, while teaching life skills like housekeeping, meal preparation, hygiene, and money management. Counselors support residents on recreational outings, allowing your family member to explore interests and experience a full, rich life. “ Vocational Training & Employment
