Ambulance Service Undergoes Upgrades
To better serve the residents of our
community, Millstadt Ambulance Service
will upgrade from a Basic Life Support
(BLS) service to an Advanced Life Support
(ALS) service, effective August 1,2013.
As an ALS provider, Millstadt Ambulance

applications to the State of Illinois in

add to our existing staff. The level of
emergency medical care that can be
offered by this ALS service is well worth
this effort.
Another change, the transition to 911
dispatching, was a much longer journey
and had to be made in stages. One of the
most difficult concerns of the change was

Garden Place Encourages Planning Ahead for Winner
Winter months often make us all more
prone to depression, but for seniors this is
often exacerbated. This is due to the fact
that many choose to stay home more
often, leading to social isolation. Social
isolation leads to depression for persons
at any age. Seniors don’t want to bother
others for help and can have difficulty
getting their cars out, shoveling, or simply
fear falling on those icy days. This social
isolation doesn’t only impact their
emotional state but has also been found
through research to have links to illnesses
and declined physical health.
To prevent the winter months from
bringing you down, begin plan now and
don’t be afraid to ask for help. You of
course can utilize family in these times of
need but you can also look to your local
resources. Most counties have
transportation services available. In
Millstadt, the senior center provides
activities and outings monthly. Also,
Millstadt Area Senior Transportation is
available Monday through Friday 9am-
2pm.
If what you need is peace of mind or
convenience, you may want to consider
assisted living. One of the biggest and
most beneficial benefits to assisted living
communities is the fact that they provide a
24/7 built-in social support system through
staff and other residents. Activities and
meals are provided for you in house daily,
you won’t need to worry about shoveling
your sidewalk or driveway. You will also
have the comfort of knowing that if you
catch one of those dreaded winter
illnesses, the staff are trained and
available to help you through that time.
Most assisted living communities
including Garden Place are able to offer
respite or temporary stays to you, so if you
want to take a mini vacation in town during
those winter months, you can do so right
in your backyard at Garden Place.
Call us to check in our current specials
at (618)-971-7706.

First Tenant Annouced in New Millstadt Retail Complex
At the August Quarterly meeting, Lee
Vogel of Lee’s Home Center announced
the first tenant in his retail project, which is
being built off of West Washington St. next
to Dollar General in Millstadt. Subliminal
Subs is expected to open there by the
beginning of 2014, becoming the first
establishment in Millstadt with a drivethrough window.
Currently located in Waterloo and Troy,
as well as across the river, Subliminal
offers a variety of quality grilled, deli and
even breakfast sandwiches. The cofranchisees in Millstadt are Dawn Ritzel
and Kevin Schmidt. Subliminal generously
donated subs to the meeting to give
chamber members a taste of what’s to
come.
Lee stressed the importance of keeping
business local in Millstadt and is currently
seeking other quality tenants for the
building. For more information, email him
at lee_vogel@leeshomecenter.com.

Chamber memberships offer opportunities for networking, business
education and advocacy. Often, when consumers are shopping for a product
or service, their choice is a Chamber of Commerce member. As a Chamber
member, your business will receive a referral before a nonmember. Being a
chamber member also demonstrates your commitment to our community.
Chamber members are listed on the Chamber’s website. Here you can
profile your business, allowing consumers to learn about your products and
services. This is a great way to advertise your business!
Join us at our next Quarterly meeting or Business After Hours. The
opportunities for sharing advice, customer introductions and political
representation are just some of the many opportunities available to you as a
Chamber member!
The Chamber offers many opportunities to keep you informed of
meetings and events through our website, email and newsletters. Questions
and suggestions are always welcome.
Visit our website at www.millstadtchamber.org or email us at
millstadtchamberofcommerce@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from
you!
