The Government is a drama series
about the fight for political power –
and about the personal sacrifices and
consequences this has for those involved on and behind the political stage
The central figure is the 40-year old
political leader Birgitte Nyborg, who
through her idealism and huge effort
secures her party a landslide victory
and thus faces the biggest challenge
of her life: how most effectively to
use the newly won seats, and how far
she is willing to go in order to gain as
much influence as possible. Privately,
Birgitte leads a happy family life with
her husband and two children. She is
a woman with a burning commitment,
a big heart and little time. Will she be
able to be a successful and professional top politician and stay true to
herself at the same time?
Among the many important people
in Birgitte Nyborg’s professional life
is her media adviser, Kasper Juul, who
is one of the most talented in the
business. However, he is also a cynic
with no illusions, who needs to start
believing in the messages which is his
job to impart.
Another significant character is
Katrine Fønsmark: a political journalist
working for a large public service television station. Her screen charm and
her ability to bring the debate to the
viewers’ eye level have quickly earned
her popularity and clout, but her personal life is rootless and confused.
The Government has a large gallery
of characters and deals with many
different aspects in the political, the
journalistic, and the private spheres.
Jakob is an Artist & Repertory man

Jakob has been living this way since
the gold-rimmed nineties, the heydays
of the music industry. Presently he
needs to fight for his existence on
all levels, if he wants to maintain his
extravagant lifestyle and reputation.
Jakob has to juggle his new strict female boss, his omnipresent rival ”The

daughter, Julie, who just moved in with
him. As Jakob is about to discover, it
is not always easy to raise a teenager
– especially not if the parent is also
behaving like one.
Jakob’s golden egg – the rock band
”Konsumer” – is back in the studio for
the first time in two years, and that
might just be the salvation he needs.
It could help take away some of the
hard pressure that he faces at the
company, where sales are down and
costs increasing.
Unluckily for Jakob, but partially

– the movie
A king lives in a beautiful castle with
his eleven sons and a daughter named
Elisa. Sadly, their mother passed
away and the father meets a beautiful woman and falls in love. She is a
witch and blinds him with her beauty.
She sends Elisa away and turns
Elisa’s brothers into wild swans
With help from an old woman in the
forest Elisa finds her brothers. They
are swans by day, but transforms
into humans at sunset. Elisa will do
whatever it takes to break the spell.
A fairy shows her in a dream, how she
must collect stinging nettles from
a graveyard and knit eleven shirts
from their soft flax. Until the day she
finishes, she must not speak. In the new land, where they now live,
a young king reigns, and he falls in love
with Elisa. They marry even though the
archbishop is horrified – convinced
she is a witch. The archbishop sees
Elisa one day, picking nettles at the

cemetery at night and the people in
the town sentence her to death. She
is taken to the market square to be
burnt at the stake.
The sky grows dark as eleven swans
swoop down beside her. She throws
the shirts over them. The crowd
gasps as the great swans turn into

and they all live happily ever after.
The Wild Swans is made in close

Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy
tale into a spectacular universe and
transports the viewer into an artistically dark and magic world populated
by princes, princesses, evil stepmothers, body eaters and toads.

The Highvoltageman and the Robotboys have arrived from a distant
galaxy, far, far away, hell-bent on
their mission: ’electric boogie for
everyone’!
In a futuristic, virtual universe where
electronic pop is king, the three characters, The Highvoltageman and The
Robotboys, perform electric boogie
as a way of life. Each episode sees the
unlikely ensemble enthuse their way
through a new set of dance routines
and styles, hell-bent on accomplishing their mission: ’electric boogie for
everyone’! Impossible to resist, the
viewer is captivated by the repetition and enjoyment, and fascinated
children are inspired to get up from
the couch and get dancing.
The episodes are interspersed by
fantastically fanciful animations,
handdrawn in high-speed.
Children love dancing, children love
laughing, children love drawing.
Children love The Highvoltageman and
The Robotboys.

This series takes a closer look at a
girls’ soccer team – their last season
together, before they split up and
move on to the next level within their
discipline. This season is the final
test. Can the girls make it into the
top league?
Individually the girls are skilled and
ambitious, but in this final and crucial
season the team spirit suffers. All of
the girls struggle with their own per-
sonal issues. Amina battles with her
excessive weight, Molly G. is forced to
replace her push-up bra with a sports
bra, and while Ranya fights to get
her five minutes in the game, Harboe
needs to decide whether she wants to
stay on the team at all.
Finding your place on a girls’ soccer
team is not easy. Naturally it is about
talent, but like in any other group of
girls popularity is the key to happiness. The competition inside and out-
side of the soccer field is demanding
on the girls – discipline and internal
relationships are tested.

An ice witch who threatens the existence of all pixie life, a secret pact
and a dangerous quest of magical trials – these are the fairytale elements
that make up this Christmas series
for the whole family
The Pact is an adventure story about
a schoolboy, Malte, and a pixie girl,
Lyda. The two are united in their battle to find the magical pact – the only
thing that can save the pixies from
being wiped out entirely by the evil ice
witch Iselin.
The Pact is a story concerned with
themes of community and embracing
each other despite differences. It is
about the responsibility we have to
the communities we are a part of and
about the difficulties that can arise if
we are not open to individual differences and don’t treat each other with
respect.
With a thrilling plot and myster-
ies The Pact stimulates imagination
and curiosity. At times it is scary, but
never frightening.

Armadillo is the story of Mads and

not what they expected. After seven
months, they return with blood on

The film is a journey into the young

The story about power and the lack
of it facing European leaders when
they meet their voters to sell the
idea of a strong and unified Europe
In January 2009 a historical moment
was planned to take place in the history
of the European Union – the 27 member states were to elect the first permanent President of the EU. Except,
the Irish voters said no in a referendum
in June 2008, which threw the EU into
perhaps its biggest crisis ever.
The 27 Heads of State were now
required to find a solution. A historical
political power play began, all confidential and far away from the public
eye. This is a complex process taking
place in meetings and corridors,
where compromises must be found
and national interests looked after.
This film will explore the core of
European political power, with cultures dating back centuries, which
includes drama, intrigues, vanity and
greed. Mostly it is the story about
the decisive clash between those who
wish for a united Europe and those
who oppose it.
From the director of the award winning film On the Road to Europe – an
observational account of the tense
political negotiations peaking during
a two day summit with all European

abstract ideals and one attempts to
understand how Mads, Daniel and their
fellow soldiers – bit by bit – are shaped
by their violent experiences and the
tremendous pressure they act under.
For the first time ever a film crew
has gained unforeseen access to follow a division of Danish soldiers at war.
This has resulted in unique material,
giving the director the opportunity to
examine the myth of man at war and
to explore the barbarism and socialisation taking place among soldiers.
Camp Armadillo is located in the
remnants of an old Afghan farmhouse
– now “Forward Operation Base Ar-
madillo”. Together with 120 Danish and
British soldiers, Mads, Daniel and their
unit are guarding the last outpost
against the Taleban, in the Helmand
Province of Afghanistan.
Armadillo is a visually and emotionally
profound portrayal of war, set in the
contemporary scene of Afghanistan –
and a film rightfully questioning if it is
possible to achieve peace through war.
Armadillo is directed by Janus Metz,
who has won numerous awards for his
documentary films; Ticket to Paradise
and Love on Delivery – films about people who go on life changing journeys.

resources: diamonds, gold, copper, tin,

Except these resources have been a
curse for the country.
During the brutal reign of King
Leopold, the Belgians robbed Congo
of rubber, killing millions of people. The
story has repeated itself ever since
– different resources but the same
greed and brutality. Until a few years
ago, the exploitation of the minerals
fuelled a horrific civil war in Congo, a
conflict that resulted in almost four
million deaths.
The minerals are still mined and
exported illegally out of Congo, where
they are used in the production of
electronic devices. Now filmmaker
Frank Poulsen starts his quest to find
out if his mobile phone is filled with
illegal minerals.
Blood in the Mobile is a film about

What do you do when your own family
member becomes a pirate?
When civil war broke out in Somalia,
Nasib Farab’s family could only afford
a one-way ticket, so Nasib was sent
off alone to grow up in an asylum centre in Europe. Today he leads a life resembling that of any other European
citizen. The region where he grew up,
however, is now the very centre of the
large-scale Somali piracy and some of
the toughest pirates are from Nasib’s
own clan and family. So when Nasib
learns that his cousin Abdi plans to
join the pirates as well, he decides to
go home to make him change his mind.
Nasib follows his cousin closely,
facing the pirates and their exploits.
While Abdi is trying to become a pirate, Nasib is trying to talk him out of
it. Unfortunately Nasib’s arguments
carry little weight, simply because
Abdi’s alternatives for a better
future are lost in a blur of civil war,
corruption and khat-chewing. As Nasib is experiencing his deeply impoverished country and sees the extreme
contrasts between the rich and the
poor, the time for Abdi’s first raid is
approaching. Nasib, deeply affected
by seeing his home city being run by
criminals, is searching for a meaning and hope for his cousin. They are
hard to find. Even though the pirates
call the hijackings for “help yourself
foreign aid”, there is little to suggest
that the ransom is benefiting other
than the pirates. Along the way, it
becomes clear to Nasib, how lucky he
has been, and that he perhaps would
have done exactly the same as Abdi, if
the roles had been reversed.
In Kenya a white landowner kills
a poacher. The subsequent trial
evolves more around white landownership, the tension between the
rich and the poor, than of the actual
murder
In May 2006, Robert Njoya was shot
and killed by Tom Cholmondeley, heir
to the Delamere Estate. Tom encountered Robert Njoya together with
some fellow poachers and a pack of
dogs, while driving through the countryside of the estate. Tom maintained
that he had shot after the pack of
dogs, accidentally hitting Robert, a
claim later questioned in court.
This resulted in the trial focusing not
so much on the alleged murder, as on
the symbolic contrast between a few
wealthy white Kenyan landowners and
the poor coloured people For many

rapid growth of the population leading
to a rise in poverty. As a consequence,
land available where the poorer

overpopulated, while the land owners

This case of severe contrasts

Does the era of colonial rule still hold

or ought it to be removed for the

Jun and Long are neo-intellectuals

Jun is a university teacher who

struggling to refine his scope with his
academic supervisors. Life is confusing enough until they find out that Jun
is pregnant and nothing will ever be

Fantastic access allows us to

the soon-to-be parents. We follow as they navigate the world of

preparing the baby’s room. Jun openly
admits how she misses her independence and how having a child will be a
sacrifice to her own life. Jun and Long
freely express their disappointment
upon discovering that the child is a
girl – a telling example of China’s onechild policy.

In this life humans can either kill or
be killed. The government can commit
one of the acts. Meet Karl. He will
soon be executed
Each year around 50 people are
executed in the US. The vast majority of executions take place in Texas
by lethal injection. Since 1997 Karl
Chamberlain has been on death row
because he raped and murdered a
30-year-old woman in her apartment
in Dallas in 1991.
Dying in Dixieland follows Karl’s
mother Muina, an old hippie and now
a practising Muslim, who hopes that
her prayers will save her son’s life as
she tries to understand what turned
her once sweet little son into a violent
criminal. She shares her concerns
with a group of women, pen pals
of Karl, who in turn have developed
boyfriend-like relationship with the
condemned man on death row.
For Muina it is not just about Karl’s
life but also her own. Last time she
visited her son on death row, it was so
hard on her that she tried to take her
own life. Her friends now fear that if
Karl is not pardoned, this execution
might lead her to attempt suicide
again. On Mother’s Day in 2008, she
receives notification that an execution date has been set! This film also
introduces the victim’s lawyer and
family in the attempt to understand a

The story about the dramatic
encounter between Christian and
Muslim cultures
Every sailor had the fear and he knew
the risk; being captured by Muslim pirates, thus becoming a slave in North
Africa. From 1500 to ca. 1830, roughly
a million Europeans were detained.
They were mostly sailors, captured by
Muslim pirates in the Mediterranean
and the Atlantic, men who were forced
into slavery – the victims of war.
This war was waged by Muslim pirates, endowed with state permits to
capture commercial vessels belonging to the enemy. The sailors on board
were, if not killed then forced into slavery, many of them sold at slave markets
in North Africa. They could also serve
as hostages; ransoms were exacted
from their native countries, so a few
lucky ones made it back to Europe.
This is an almost forgotten story
in Europe. However, during the last
twenty years leading scientists have
examined the national archives and
found documents, letters and lists
about seamen, passengers and people
from remote villages taken captive
and enslaved.
White Slaves – Muslim Pirates tells
the story of Hark Olufs, a German

Dari is a former pop star and London

Maasai living in one of the world’s
most beautiful natural resorts: the
Ngorongoro Safari Park in Tanzania
At once sharp and poetic, this film
explores issues such as globalisation,
development, wealth and love in the
Maasai culture. Leaving stereotypes
behind, this documentary shows us
people greatly aware of the world we
inhabit and invites us to recognise the
need to change our lifestyles in order
to survive. It will confront us with our
habitual conceptions and pre-justices
about indigenous people and about
the actual meaning of development.
The Ngorongoro district, home
to the Maasai people, is one of the
world’s most popular safari-locations.
The Maasai have maintained their traditional way of life for centuries, and
still they are fully aware of both global
warming and the financial crisis. They
are very much influenced by both. The
access to land is fundamental, but it
is a daily struggle with the authorities to maintain the right to land that
has been their home for centuries.
This conflict is a bit of a paradox, as
the Maasai have always been living in
harmony with wildlife – the primary
reason why wildlife is found to such
abundance in Maasai areas. The problem is the huge income from tourism,
an income which the authorities would
like to keep to themselves.

Now also available as 1 hour documentary, Bringing Life to Space
takes the viewer on a journey around
the world – to document man’s desire
to conquer space
For decades man have prepared for
long voyages into space and explored
the possibility of settling on other
planets. Many people feel confined
by this galactic province and see
colonization of space as a possible
alternative to their fragile, rather
worn planet. But to make their dream
come true they will not only have to
challenge their knowledge and technological skills – they will also have to
challenge their own fears and psychological limitations. The challenge of
bringing life to space is enormous, and
to secure survival on a long journey
into space, we follow scientists who
try to copy Earth’s delicate ecological balances in small, sealed cycles, to
secure sufficient and vital supplies of
water, oxygen and food.
They were the first “born-free” generation of South Africa. A generation
whose lives were formed after the
brutal apartheid regime was abolished
and Mandela had come to power.
Children of Mandela profiles four of
these students, two white and two
blacks, who attended the original
Rainbow Camp nearly 10 years ago.
Back then they were united in their
concern for a national reconciliation
between races but since then their
lives have taken different turns. Are
they still committed to a common fu-
ture? The Rainbow Camp reunion gives
this first “born-free” generation an
opportunity to discuss how the new
South Africa is really getting along.

COP15, held in Copenhagen, would

for the lack of will to push through

Welcome to perhaps the most remote army post in the world
Alexiei, a 19 year old Russian recruit, is
being flown in to perform his military
service at a small base in a remote
part of Northern Russia. This base
is one of few such frontier posts on
the Arctic Ocean, guarding the vast,

their personal worries and secrets.
It is hard for them to imagine going

The story behind the origin and the
creation of one of the immortal characters of literature: Peter Pan
The tale of Peter Pan, the boy who refused to grow up, and his adventures
is a universal story of the magic of
childhood; an unforgettable portrait
of childhood imagination, with its contrary lures of home and escape, safety and high adventure. As a character
Peter Pan contains a complex pattern
of dark and joyful sides, and it is this
interplay that makes the character
truly interesting and equally popular
with children and adults alike.
Scottish playwright sir James Barrie drew consciously on his private
life, clouded by divorce and a series of
bereavements, when writing the story
of Peter Pan − far more true and
spontaneous than he at first intended. Drawing on his own story-telling
experiences with children during walks
in a London park, he initially created
Peter Pan as a baby, living a wild and
secret life with birds and fairies in the
middle of London. The character soon
developed into the boy hero of Neverland, the fantasy island of childhood
dreams and nightmares. Partnered by
the motherly and resourceful Wendy,
Peter fights epic battles with red-
skins and murderous pirates.
In Search of Peter Pan takes off
where reality and dreams blend into
fiction. Through different narrative
layers, the film traces the gradual
evolution of the character of Peter
Pan − and the emptiness, solitude and
jealousy that lies at the heart of him.
