Breast Imaging from A to Z
3790 El Camino Real Suite 2029 Palo Alto, CA 94306 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course provides an integrated approach to comprehending the basis and applications of breast imaging in six distinct sessions. Sessions 1 and 2 will take the attendee through the histopathologic basis for benign and malignant breast disease with imaging correlates. Conventional topics with simplified and novel strategies are presented to both review and advance the practice of mammography and ultrasound, and the alternatives of imaging surveillance. Session 3 focuses on current and evolving concepts in MRI imaging and advanced digital platforms, offering perspectives on different technologies that can be incorporated into every day clinical practice. Sessions 4 and 5 are devoted to issues in breast interventional procedures and breast density; reviewing the topics all practicing radiologists need to know and providing a foundation for management recommendations. Finally, Session 6 will go over the medical and legal issues in breast imaging. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon completion of program, participants should be able to: • Assess the current status and future applications of advanced breast imaging technologies.Implement state-of-the-art digital mammography techniques and protocols into clinical practice • Differentiate abnormal findings on film screen and digital mammography, ultrasound, and MRI, and correlate findings for optimal lesion evaluation and localization • Evaluate the appropriate use of BI-RADs for reporting of lesions • Optimize imaging methods to reduce the number of falsepositive and false-negative mammography interpretations • Recognize the potentials and limitations of current density assessments of breast including risk and masking implications • Implement current techniques for the sonographic evaluation of breast masses • Analyze the applications, techniques, and pitfalls of stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, and MRI-guided biopsy and employ appropriate image-guided breast interventional procedures • Summarize the indications, strengths and weaknesses for utilizing breast MRI with regard to screening, staging and monitoring response to treatment • Summarize the indications, strengths and weaknesses for utilizing breast MRI with regard to screening, staging and monitoring response to treatment • Improve diagnostic outcomes by applying current breast MRI protocols and interpretation method TARGET AUDIENCE • General radiologists and trainees interested in breast imaging • Radiology residents and fellows in training • Radiology technologists, nurses and radiology physician assistants • Breast surgeons • Allied health care professionals who desire to have an update on the state of current imaging as an aid to patient management for diseases of the breast PHYSICIAN ACCREDITATION Accreditation Statement This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and CME Science.
