Notes from the Newsletter Editor:
Every attempt will be made to include all articles as they are submitted, and in their entirety, in the newsletter. However, due to space
constraints, this may not always be possible. If you do not want your article edited in any way, shape or form (even if typos and/or
grammatical errors are apparent) please make a note of that when the article is sent.
A check of the archives of the Spokin’ Times News revealed that this picture must have been
taken on Thursday, July 16th, 2009. So why is it in the Newsletter now, you ask? (Other than
that I have space to fill, of course).
Well, this picture arrived a few days ago in a mailing from the Greene Trails Cycling Classic in
Xenia, Ohio. Apparently, the good folks of Xenia, Ohio consider this group of cyclists so
photogenic that they are using the picture 4 years later. Did everyone sign a release for this
picture to be used?
If you check the August, 2009 Spokin’ Times, you will find that there were 9 people who rode a
century on Friday, July 17th, 2009. Six of those nine people are pictured above.
So why aren’t the other 3 people in the picture? As luck would have it, they got left behind at
breakfast at McDonald’s while the other six hurried on ahead. The way I heard the story, they
didn’t catch up for the rest of the day.
On the other hand, I suppose you could argue that if the other 3 people were in the picture, the
folks at Xenia wouldn’t find the picture so attractive to use.
Last night after the fish fry, I mentioned that I was planning on running this picture in the April
Newsletter. And sure enough, people started adding the stories I have to tell about that year in
Xenia.
Since I didn’t mention any names above, I will continue to not mention any names. But our
president wanted me to be sure to mention that he did 2 centuries in 48 hours. Of course, he
was counting 15 miles Wednesday night and 85 miles on Thursday as one century, and then
100 miles on Friday as the second century. So, if it makes you feel good, Mr. President, go
ahead and count it as 2 centuries in 48 hours.
Second up was the treasurer who wanted me to be sure to mention that Xenia 2009 was her
first event with this fun group of people. She was there with two of her girlfriends. And they
have all been active members of the Slow Spokes ever since. (One of them was already a
member.)
April Rides
If your ride had been scheduled, it would be right here.
Please watch for impromptu ride announcements. Spring will come!!
Check out the pictures below. They’re ready for Spring.
So, was it a bike ride or just an excuse to eat.
Hey, someone’s got cool shades.
The lake was still frozen. But Spring is coming!!
Let’s just pretend it’s Spring!
The DQ is open. Let’s have an ice cream. So what if
there’s snow on the ground.
