The Cat Strikes Again!
By Alan Talbott, President
In the ever-improving automotive world, reliability has
become synonymous with success as exampled by
Toyota’s continuing market share inroads versus domestic
manufacturers. Therefore J.D. Power and Associates 2006
Vehicle Dependability Study lends credence to who and
what car companies have done to increase quality and
reliability of their product. How did Jaguar do? Look on:
Lexus 131
Mercury 151
Buick 153
Cadillac 163
Toyota 179
Acura 184
Honda 194
Jaguar 210
BMW 212
Infiniti 215
Lincoln 220
Ford 224
Oldsmobile 227
Industry Average Is 227 Problems Per 100 Vehicles based
on 2003 Model Year.
Jaguar placing 8th against illustrious and even startling
competition is outstanding.
Below the industry are all the rest of the companies
including but not limited to Mercedes, Porsche, Nissan,
Mazda, Audi, Jeep, Mini, VW, Saturn and Hummer. Land
rover was at the bottom of the list with an astounding
ranking of 438. Even with the numbers as they are today
the industry average ten years ago was 320 so there has
been a vast improvement across the board for virtually all
the companies. But for Jaguar to be so far up the list, who
woulda thunk it?
AJS has a write up in the current edition of ROAR
Magazine (see elsewhere in the newsletter) published for
April 07
Jaguars internal use and distributed only to the dealer
network employees. The article surrounds our Concours
held at Nalley Jaguar last fall with photos of Phil Slough’s
E-Type and Don and Marlene Harts XK 140. It was a
pleasure to do the show there and its nice to know we were
the first in the country to have a concours at a dealer.
Thanks to Nalley for the help and recognition.
Up coming events include a day tour to Callaway Gardens
on April 22nd, the Walter Mitty Races April 27th thru the
29th and the British Car show at Berry College May 19th.
The Callaway tour and the Mitty are detailed in this
newsletter and British Car Day will be in the next issue. If
you have been to British Car Day previously you will
receive by mail this month an application so that you can
pre-register for that event.
We had an outstanding monthly meeting at March end and
hope that at some point you can join us for an evening of
conversation and dining. This month’s meeting will be on
Monday April 30th at Chicago’s in Sandy Springs. Please
RSVP to Beverlee Leo at 770-949-6775 or email at
fredleo@bellsouth.net.

I’m not really sure how I got this position, but I think it
had something to do with this man!!!!!:
JUNE'S CORNER
Member News
By June Mindrup, Health & Hospitality Director
Jeff Tinkler, new member, led the St. Patrick's Day Parade
in Downtown Atlanta on Saturday, March 24th. Way to
go Jeff, and it's good to have you with us.
I have really enjoyed the newsletter in the past and it has
been done very well by very qualified people. I just hope
that I can keep it up to those standards and your
expectations. Please feel free to give me any feedback or
criticism that you may have. I may scream and holler, but
I’ll get over it.

Spring Day Tour
Sunday, April 22
Wash that pollen off your Jaguar and prepare to
welcome spring with a day tour to Callaway Gardens. We
will meet at Chicago’s parking lot (site of our monthly
meetings) in Sandy Springs at 9:30 AM. We will then
motor on down to Warm Springs where we will have an
early lunch at Bulloch House. Bulloch House is located in
an historic 1892 house and features country cooking at its
best. We will partake in the all you can eat buffet at
$10.95 per person. After lunch we will head over to
Callaway Gardens for total sensory overload. We will go
directly to the Discovery Center and board the free shuttle
taking us to the Day Butterfly Center, where we will get
up close and personal with over 1000 butterflies
representing over 50 species. The next stop will be the
Sibley Horticultural Center featuring the main
conservatory with its amazing indoor floral beds, the
tropical conservatory and the rock wall garden
conservatory. The forty-acre Callaway Brothers Azalea
Bowl is a short leisurely stroll from the Sibley Center
where, with any luck, we should see late season azaleas
and rhododendrons in full bloom. Please note: wheelchairs
are available for use by guests at Callaway, and most
attractions are wheelchair accessible. The attractions at
Callaway are open until 6:00 PM. While visiting
Callaway Gardens, you may stay with the group or tour at
your own pace.
To participate in this activity, please call Kim Daly at 770633-4960 by April 18th.

Rachel Morrison went out to get her Newspaper and took a
tumble. A real tumble! She broke her radius in 2 places
and crushed her elbow, which necessitated having
surgery. To show her battle wounds, she is sporting a cast
from her right hand to her shoulder. Moral to the story:
Don't go out for the newspaper!
Sometime in April, Bob Daly will go back to Tanzania,
East Africa, for a few weeks to, hopefully finish G.E.'s job
in the turbine power plant there. Then he will head back
to Venezuela, S.A. to spearhead construction on the
turbine power plant there. Bob, do you ever meet yourself
coming and going?
Wil Sommer went to Clearwater, Florida for a week stay
in his condo there to catch a little fun in the sun. He
rushed back home so he could enter the Saturday, March
31st Fishing Tournament at Lake Lanier.
Alan Talbott moved his office to his home as of March
31st. Dabney, does that mean you're going to serve
lunches each day? Dabney Talbott's Mother, Kit Williams
had a stroke and ended up with emergency surgery for a
clogged artery. She came through beautifully and is now
recovering nicely at her Canterbury Court home.
Kathy and Glenn Michalski spent the majority of the first
3 months of the year at their house in Gulf Shores,
Alabama doing the beach and golf things. A quick stop at
their Georgia house to pick up ski clothes and equipment
before spending 8 days in Cortina, Italy; then the ski trip to
Park City, Utah. Weather and skiing were fantastic in both
locations. Between the 2 ski trips, they took a trip to Key
Largo, Florida for some sun and warm tropical weather.
Glenn Michalski was sporting a new "boot" at the monthly
AJS meeting in March! The boot looks like a combination
ski boot and swim fin and is supposed to cure his achilles
tendon. However, it turned out that the tendon was
severed and he had surgery on it. His golf season is over
until late summer and this may also curtail his ambition to
be a pro basketball player!!
Thanks to Bob Hicks for serving as an interim Newsletter
Editor and doing such an outstanding job. You really
stepped up to the plate and made a home run in keeping
the AJS'ers informed. AND...thank you Lew George for
volunteering to take on this important task. You are to be
commended! We all promise to help in anyway we can.
Keep July 20th in your mind, as that's the AJS'ers 30th
Anniversary gala party at The Ashford Club. Chef Frank
is noted for his gourmet culinary abilities so this will
surely be an evening to remember. Those who didn't attend
the January meeting missed the Birthday celebration of
Alice Thyer complete with a birthday cake (yep, lighted
candles, too) being served. A melodious, only a little offkey, rendition of "Happy Birthday To You" accompanied
the cutting of the cake. After the fact, it was learned that
her husband, Dick, also shared in the celebration as his
birthday was on January 31st (2 days after her birthday on
the 29th).
Be sure to mark your calendars for July 20th to attend the
30th Anniversary of AJS with a Cocktail/Buffet Party at
The Ashford Club. This will be a gala affair with
sumptuous food in a delightful atmosphere of a Private
Club.

Over the years, beautifully restored, vintage cars have
graced many a Nalley Jaguar event. For their part, Nalley
Jaguar has hosted service and the like for the club. This
event marked the first time in its 30-year history, however,
that the club would hold a concours at a Jaguar dealership.
“It was a really nice event for us and for the dealership,
said Talbott. “It increased visibility for our club because
of the dealership’s location on a main road, and it
increased store traffic for Nalley.”
The dealership made room in its showroom and in the
front lot for almost 30 Jaguars, ranging from vintage
1950’s XK140 to a couple of 2005 XJ8s. At the club’s
request, a new XK and XJ were also predominantly
displayed. The verdict from club and dealership is that the
event was a rousing success, and planning is already
underway to make next year’s event even bigger and
better. As one club member was heard to remark, “These
Jaguars like to be around their own kind. These cars are
home.”

Homecoming for vintage Jaguars
Reprint from “roar”, a Jaguar Professional Publication
Not every Jaguar club is affiliated with JCNA, such as the
independent Atlanta Jaguar Society club. However, that
doesn’t stop Jaguar dealers from helping these groups
create intriguing events.
When Alan Talbott, president of the Atlanta Jaguar
Society, approached Nalley Jaguar about hosting the
club’s annual Concours d’Elegance, sales consultant Bill
Clark knew it would be a perfect fit. “We’ve worked with
the club for many years, “ explains Clark, “and they’ve
always gone out of their way to help us. It’s a mutually
beneficial relationship.”
Still perfect after all these years, inside and out.
“We’ve worked with the club for many years and
they’ve always gone out of their way to help us.
It’s a mutually beneficial relationship.”

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
By Alan Talbott, President
We had our annual pilgrimage to the St. Patrick’s Day
Parade in downtown Atlanta on the 17th. That was a day
made for the survival of the fittest. With a 25 to 30 MPH
wind gusts and a 35 degree temperature, our list of Jaguars
was small (Dick and Alice Thyer brought three and could
have had their own parade) but enthusiastic. Even with the
cold there was a very large crowd on hand and our cars got
lots of attention from the crowd. As you can see from the
photo’s Jeff Dinkle’s XK 150 lead the group. We had a
great time. A special thanks to Dick and Alice for having a
wonderful array of food available for a pre-lunch treat.
It was quite windy out there.
I hope they took precautions!!
Maybe these guys realized the older Jaguars had Lucas
electrical systems!!
Alice is enjoying the parade!
