Every year, the night before the Summer Fest begins, volunteers rebuild the stage using a clever modular system created by Todd Beasley. The Frosty Bottom Boys first started playing together while they were doing field research at Toolik Station. The G-Strings hold the record for using the most vegetable oil to perform at the Fest. They drove cross-country in a school bus with an engine converted to burn used vegetable oil, which they picked up at fast food restaurants along the way. SRS SOUND REINFORCEMENT SPECIALISTS 907-687-0032 jbennettsound@gmail.com www.srsalaska.com The quilt that is the stage backdrop was lovingly handsewn using 45 t-shirts from past Alaska folk festivals. UAF’s College of Liberal Arts has more affiliated faculty, staff, students, and alumni performers, on average, than any other school or college at UAF. The Tetrafiddlers and Cattails routinely cram more fiddlers per square inch on the stage than any other group. Winter Fest 1999 was the coldest Fest ever, with a low of –51. Summer Fest 1997 was the warmest Fest ever, with a high of 87. Ryan Bowers has played bass in more bands than anyone else in Fest history. This Fest is the longest running and farthest north folk music festival in America. GOLDEN EAGLE SALOON Lost Dog is the most famous band in Alaska, with posters bearing their name appearing on lampposts, signs, bulletin boards, and even on the internet, throughout the state. Musicians welcome. Smoke-free Sundays inside. Best burgers in town. In beautiful downtown Ester, AK The youngest child ever to appear on stage was 5 weeks old. She slept soundly during her band’s performance. Dispute any of these facts? Or do you have some fun facts about the Fest you’d like to share?
