Christmas Eve saw the church filled to capacity once more at
the annual Crib Service. This year the children dramatized a
version of the Christmas Story called ‘Christmas Journeys’.
It is important to remember
that, apart from choosing
their roles and costumes in
advance, this is done
entirely without rehearsal
and the children with ages
ranging from under a year
to 16 always behave
impeccably and sit patiently
throughout the story as the
tableau is assembled. This
year’s baby Jesus was Penelope Green who thoroughly
enjoyed the experience and sat up smiling throughout. The
Christmas Crib is also populated with the Crib figures, which
have been ‘travelling’
around the village
throughout Advent and
at the end of the service
gifts for the Women’s
Refuge at Truro are
presented. Peter and
Helen Coulson took the
gifts to the refuge after
Christmas. The reason
for this is that cuts in
funding have meant that
1
since last year, the Refuge, although probably occupied by
families, is not manned by staff over Christmas. There are
emergency measures in place to take care of families who
suddenly need sanctuary but there would be no-one there to
accept the gifts on Christmas Eve, which was when we used
to deliver them. This does not mean that families there do
not have gifts for Christmas morning as those, which we and
others supplied last year will have been used throughout the
year for birthdays and special occasions and some are
reserved for Christmas too.
Thank you to every one who brought gifts and also to those
who made cash donations for the Salvation Army, which
amounted to over £300.

Week St Mary Church Garland Evening
On Thursday 3rd December, Week St Mary Choir hosted an
evening of singing, seasonal readings and fellowship to
celebrate the Advent Garland, which had been grown
throughout the year by gardeners all over the village and
assembled and hung the week before by a team of hard working
ladies. The Garland adorned the church throughout Advent and
Christmas and attracted a lot of visitors. The choir sang their
Christmas anthems and were joined in several carols by the
audience who also enjoyed a fairly chaotic round version of ‘The
Holly and the Ivy’ The evening was used to thank all those who
took part in the garland project and Week St Mary Church
would like to repeat those thanks here, particularly remembering the tremendous efforts made by Sandy Not to support
those who were growing the flowers through the summer.

The Bell ringers began their
Christmas celebrations with a
Christmas meal at Boscastle Farm
Shop to which they welcomed
regularly supporting ringers from
Whitstone and Jacobstow. The
ringers practice faithfully every
Wednesday and ring for all Sunday Services as
well as for special occasions throughout the year.
Anyone seriously interested in learning to ring
should pop into the church during Wednesday
practice to meet us all. Special lessons can easily
be arranged by experienced tutors for most ages
from about 11 years to very much older!
The only criteria are that you are fit (although
great strength is not
required) and are willing to
commit regular time to
practice whilst learning,
weekly practice thereafter
and ringing for services once
you are able to ring with the
team.

As usual WI members provided an amazing buffet, with an array of

Husbands joined in with the old fashioned games, and we all
enjoyed singing a few Carols.
Our next meeting is on January 13th 2016 at 7.30pm. We will be
holding an accessory swap evening, so if you have some scarves etc
or unwanted Christmas presents that you would like to swap, you

This was extremely well supported, we used every chair that we
have and it was a great success.
Our thanks to Molly Webster, our Harvest Queen who did a
splendid job in picking out the winning tickets in the Grand Draw,
the Hundred Club and Raffle.
The total money raised for the hall from all the events including the
BINGO was the magnificent sum of £1260,
Our thanks to the many folk who gave gifts for the draw prizes. It
never fails to amaze me of the generosity of the folk of our village.
This year we had more gifts than ever. Maggie was able to make up
some eighteen very attractive parcels.
On behalf of the committee I would extend our grateful thanks to
all who gave so generously.
Many Thanks and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year to
you all.

Helen and Peter Coulson hosted
a very successful Mulled Wine

in Market Place.
They provided seasonal mulled

started off the party season.
Norah Jewell ran the draw

and payment is expected before the end of the year.
COUNTY COUNCILLOR Mrs N CHOPAK gave updates relating to
Adult and Social Care cover by CC and that due to more cuts in
the budget, there will cuts within the service. Cllr Chopak also
advised that the fate of Bude Library is one of 4 which remains
unresolved, although it remains open at the moment as it serves as
the One Stop Shop. Launceston Town Council has taken on their
Library (also a One Stop Shop) and the Education Centre has
moved into Launceston Library site. The mobile library service still
visits but in the long term it will cease and at the moment with the
future of Bude Library being unresolved, all plans for library hubs
has ceased as CC cannot make plans to stock library hubs. Cllr N
Chopak has authorised a grant of £400 from her fund towards the
improvements in the playpark.

Slade is waiting for good weather to do the work. Safety ground

conditions. Fencing and posts – No update. Football Club tipping
– the council agreed to extend the time another 6 months.

being spent by the Clerk trying to resolve the errors, correcting
credit notes have been issued plus a credit as compensation for
the Clerk’s time and inconvenience.
FINANCE – payments were approved, income and bank balances
were reported. 2016/17 Precept – the forecast prepared by the
Clerk was examined and discussed and following the deliberations
it was resolved to increase the annual precept by £731.55.
Changes to Pension rules – to be investigated following
appointment of the replacement clerk.
NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN – to agree whether or not to register
with CC that the parish is considering to prepare a Neighbourhood
Plan on the January agenda.
POLICE STATION CLOSURES - The Parish Councillors are
unhappy about the cut-backs which seem inevitable.
POLICIES AND PROTOCOLS – 4 x draft/updated policies had
been circulated and will be discussed and adopted in due course.
