Part Number Information
Finding the correct part number and cross-referencing part numbers is easy with the On-Line! Detective
for Sun. Sun part and “X” numbers are hyperlinked to detailed information and replacement procedures.
In addition to part numbers, the Detective provides system compatibility and configuration requirements
for Sun authorized and third-party products.
“Tech Tips” From Experts
The Tech Tips include hard-to-find information or undocumented problems encountered in real field repair
situations. The tips cover a wide variety of topics including installations, upgrades, patches, hardware
compatibility, operating system issues, and third-party peripherals. Accessing the Tech Tips saves time
On-Line! Detective for SunTM User Guide
and can eliminate hours of downtime or exhaustive searches on the Internet.
Diagnostic Routines Not Found In Sun Manuals
The Detective instructs users how to perform diagnostics and resolve problems that traditionally were
passed onto a higher level. Routines include Sun error message interpretation, troubleshooting flowchart
diagrams, troubleshooting techniques specific to individual systems, and root cause determination. These
routines eliminate the expense and time of swapping out parts and the inefficiency of installing the wrong
components.
Red Hyperlinks
All text, charts or numbers appearing in red are hyperlinks. Click to link to more detailed and relevant
information. Remember, to return to your original location, use the double red arrows on the Menu Bar to
retrace your steps (See "Navigation Bar").
Edit/Find
Once in a chapter, utilize the Edit/Find option to quickly navigate to a key work or phrase. This option is
ideal for quick navigation through tables and charts. Understand that this function will only work on the
open active document.
Search
The Detective’s Search function can be used as a global search. You can use it to search through the
entire Detective!
The Search engine does not locate a dash (“-”) separating the first and second sections of all Sun part
numbers. When using the search, type the part number without the dash, but make sure to use a space in
it’s place.
On-Line! Detective for SunTM User Guide
Example: Type “501 1540” instead of “501-1540”.
Note: Make sure that your search preferences are set to boolean and not free
text. Otherwise, the search will find all occurrences of 501 or 1540.

FrameViewer Release 5.5 Information
This section contains information concerning problems that may occur when installing or running
FrameViewer release 5.5.
Installing FrameViewer
If the Installer adds Win32 components to your system, it will restart Windows. It is important to exit
Windows manually and reenter Windows after installation. This ensures that memory is freed and
available to Windows applications. The following error messages may appear during installation:
“The path is not valid” Error
During installation, this error message appears when attempting to install the Detective in a file instead of
in a directory. Try installing again, and specify a directory instead of a file in the Destination Path dialog
box.
“DSHELL caused a GPF in module mstest.exe” Error
If this error message occurs during installation, try resetting the video driver to VGA. Then reinstall the OnLine! Detective for Sun. SoftTech Solutions recommends contacting your video card manufacturer about
the availability of an updated driver.
.ini and .inf files
The fvnetset.ini file contains configuration information and can be modified. The fvnetlay.inf file contains
fileset information for the installer and should not be modified.
Note: All administrators should be sure users have write permission for the
directory in which FrameViewer was installed. If directory permissions are
changed to read-only after installation, this product will work, but user
preferences and session information will not be updated in the .ini file.
Running Viewer
Insufficient Memory Error
If the Windows TEMP directory has less than 35K of space available, FrameViewer may unexpectedly
quit. Before starting, remove any unneeded temporary or swap files from the Windows TEMP directory
and make sur that there is adequate space available in this directory.

License Agreement
U.S. License Agreement
Grant of License
This is a legal agreement between you, the end-user, and SoftTech Solutions. By opening the sealed disk
package or downloading an update, you are agreeing to be bound by the terms of this agreement. If you
do not agree to the terms of this agreement, promptly return the unopened disk package and the
accompanying items to the place you obtained them for a full refund. As Licensee, you may only allow use
of the enclosed software by your employees, consultants and subsidiaries ("Authorized Users") for the
number of users granted by this license, (i.e., single-user version licenses: one unique user; five-user
network version licenses: five total distinct users) and referenced on your purchase order. If the number of
users of the software ever exceeds the licenses, you must purchase additional licenses. You must have a
reasonable process in place to assure that the number of distinct persons using the software does not
exceed the number of licenses.
SoftTech Solutions License
1. GRANT OF LICENSE: SoftTech Solutions grants to you the right to use the specified copy(ies) of the
enclosed SoftTech Solutions software program (the "Software") on a single terminal connected to a single
computer for a single user. If you network the "Software" or otherwise use it on more than one computer or
computer terminal, all distinct users must have a registered License.
2. COPYRIGHT: The "Software" is owned by SoftTech Solutions and is protected by United States
copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Therefore, you must treat the "Software" like any other
copyrighted material (e.g., a book or musical recording) except that you may either (a) make one copy of
the "Software" solely for backup or archival purposes, or (b) transfer the "Software" to a single hard disk
provided you keep the original solely for backup or archival purposes. You may not copy the written
materials accompanying the software.
Limited Warranty
LICENSEE'S OBLIGATIONS: The SOFTWARE shall be used only in Licensee's own business facilities
and Licensee shall not permit any third party to use the SOFTWARE or to allow access to the
SOFTWARE from sites outside of Licensee's business premises, except by an Authorized User, who shall
be allowed to use the SOFTWARE from or at a site other than one of Licensee's business facilities.
On-Line! Detective for SunTM User Guide
LIMITED WARRANTY: SoftTech Solutions warrants that the "Software" will perform substantially in
accordance with the published specifications and that the media will be free from defects for a period of 90
days from the date of receipt; Any implied warranties on the "Software" is limited to 90 days. Some states
do not allow limitations on duration of an implied warranty, so the above limitation may not apply. SoftTech
warrants that it has the authority to grant this license.
CUSTOMER REMEDIES: SoftTech Solutions' entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at
SoftTech Solutions' option, either (a) return product and receive the price paid or (b) repair or replacement
of the "Software" that does not meet SoftTech Solutions Limited Warranty, which is returned to SoftTech
Solutions. This Limited Warranty is void if failure of the "Software" has resulted from accident, abuse, or
misapplication. Any replacement "Software" will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty
period or 30 days, whichever is longer. THESE REMEDIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE THE
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
NO OTHER WARRANTIES: SoftTech Solutions disclaims all other warranties, either express or implied,
