PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Congratulations to all students, faculty and staff for a successful
completion to the first semester. The second semester classes have
already begun, and we wish students and teachers all the best. Report
cards are being processed and will be mailed home to families on
February 1st.
On February 26th, FHS will host the “Community Speaks Out” assemblies
on substance abuse and substance prevention. More information about
these assemblies will be sent to families with the report card mailings.
Because of the state mandated SAT test scheduled for March 2nd and the
state mandated CAPT test, March 2nd will be an early release day for all
students with dismissal time at 12 noon. On March 3rd, we will have
parent/teacher conferences for the second semester. This event will run
from 6 pm – 8 pm at FHS. All parents, guardians and caregivers are
welcomed to attend. Please mark your calendars. More information
about March 2nd and March 3rd will be released to the FHS community in

February 2016
Spring semester is here! This can only mean the Social Studies Department promises an environment of learning
where thought-provoking discussions, analysis of primary sources, and document-based writing is on the menu.
So let’s get ready to learn!
Just a reminder class websites, PowerSchool, and Schoology are resources used by our Social Studies teachers to
communicate between school and home. These tools allow parents/guardians to access student grades. These
tools, also, allows access to all future homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and projects. If there are any
questions or concerns about any assignments or your child’s grades, please feel free to contact his or her
teacher.
While students are encouraged to meet with teachers for academic assistance, Falcon Academy is available to
all Fitch High School students. Falcon Academy meets after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
between 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Peer tutors are available to assist with academic content, homework, and
preparation for quizzes and tests. Contact Dean Adam Diskin to sign up for this afterschool program.

SENIORS
Seniors and Parents,
There are many scholarships with deadlines approaching. A very
important one is the Groton Scholarship Fund with a deadline of February
22nd. There is an application link on the Fitch website as well as copies in
the Career Center. Two more you shouldn’t miss are the Community
Foundation of Eastern CT and The William H. Chapman Foundation.
Applications of other scholarships are available in the scholarship drawer
located in the College/Career Center in Guidance.
The best way not to miss important scholarship deadlines is by logging on
Naviance. www.groton.k12.ct, select Fitch HS, Guidance, Naviance. Click
on colleges and scroll down to the scholarship list. Click on deadline
category. Most of these deadlines vary a little from year to year. As I
receive new information, I change it on Naviance. Most scholarships are
now available online. If you have any questions, please email me. To see
the entire list with a brief description you may also go to the Scholarship
Book on the Fitch website under Guidance. Copies are also available in
the Career Center. If you wish to make an appointment to meet with me,
that can be arranged also.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Wisniewski
