Each of our unique residence halls is located just steps from the NHIA campus, putting you right next door to classes, studio spaces, and galleries. Our location in the heart of downtown Manchester, NH, means the amenities of the city are just around the corner. You’ll be an easy walk away from shops, restaurants, cafes and night spots. Catch a quick ride to world-class concert venues and sporting arenas. Hop on a bus to day-trip to Boston, or escape into the pristine NH countryside, only a few minutes’ drive down the road. NHIA residence halls are all safe and secure, with on-site resident assistants and an active, involved residence life staff committed to supporting both your academic and personal needs. Forge new friendships. Broaden your horizons. You’ll find NHIA an inspiring place to call home. OUR RESIDENCE HALLS All residence halls feature free wireless Internet access, and washers and dryers. Pets are not permitted in any NHIA residence hall. Emotional Support animals are only allowed in Institute Hall. Accommodation documentation and approval by The Disability Services Coordinator- is required prior to move in. INSTITUTE HALL Living at Institute Hall comes with an added bonus: free membership to the Downtown Manchester YMCA, located just downstairs. That means residence at this co-ed, traditional hall also gives you access to a full-size gym, indoor pool, sauna and more. The hall houses 59 students in both single and double rooms. Meet up in the lounge or show off your culinary skills in the kitchen. Each floor has men’s and women’s bathrooms. Student furnishings include a twin bed, desk, chair and dresser, some rooms have closets or wardrobes. Institute Hall is ADA complaint and has elevator service but not air conditioning. LOWELL HALL Go green at Lowell Hall, NHIA’s newest residence hall. Built in 2009 at 88 Lowell Street, this remarkable building is solar-powered and features a green roof, geothermal well, and rainwater collection system, making it NHIA’s most sustainable facility. The hall houses 54 men and women in suite-style double rooms, which share a bathroom with an adjoining suite. Students are responsible for paper supplies and cleaning of this shared suite bath. Unwind in our 6th floor common lounge, enjoying stunning views of the city, or get creative in the shared kitchen. The Lowell boasts air conditioning, studio space and is ADA-compliant with elevator service. Furnishings include a twin bed, desk, chair, and dresser. PLAZA HALL Get central at Plaza Hall, located at 1000 Elm Street in one of downtown Manchester’s hippest neighborhoods. Newly renovated with hardwood floors, skylights, new paint, room configurations, and common lounge and kitchen space, the Plaza is only steps from coffee shops, galleries, theaters, fitness facilities, shops and restaurants. The building houses 101 men and women in single and double rooms, with NHIA’s dining facility located right next door. Does inspiration strike at midnight? No worries – studio space is available in the building 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Furnishings include a twin bed, desk, chair, and dresser. Each floor has men’s and women’s bathrooms. Plaza hall is air-conditioned. Residence Life 2016-2017 www.nhia.edu HAMPSHIRE HOUSE Live in a piece of local history at Hampshire House, a converted Victorian home on Walnut Street, just steps from NHIA’s French Building. Hampshire House includes space for 36 junior or senior-year students in both single and double rooms, some with private bathrooms. This elegant building features a common lounge and kitchen as well as a parlor with a piano. Shared studio space is located right on site, as well as free laundry facilities. Do your studying on the hall’s grand porch, or host gathering in the courtyard and garden. Please note that Hampshire House does not include an elevator and is not air-conditioned. Furnishings include a twin bed, desk, chair, and dresser, Some rooms have closets and/or wardrobes. Bathrooms are gender neutral. Space in Hampshire House may be offered to sophomores if available. Hampshire House is a gender neutral residence hall. a ROOM AND ROOMMATE ASSIGNMENTS Housing assignments for rising sophomores, juniors and seniors is completed through a housing lottery system. Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors may choose to reside in their current housing assignment location or they may enter the housing lottery process. The housing lottery process takes place in March. Rising seniors will have priority during the housing lottery process. Note: All prices are per-occupant, per-semester. All freshmen and sophomore students are required to live in college-sponsored housing. Students who maintain a permanent address within 50 miles of the college may be exempt from this requirement. All freshmen and sophomore students living in the residence halls are required to be on 19-meal plan. Juniors and seniors who live on campus are required to have a meal plan, but may choose either the standard 19-meal plan or 10-meal plan option. Today, NHIA has grown to become the third largest art and design college in all of New England. Regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Higher Education and nationally accredited by the National Association of Schools of Arts and Design (NASAD), NHIA offers undergraduate (BFA), graduate (MFA, MAT, and MAAE), and community education programs serving over 2,000 students annually.
