Potomac River Cleanup Event at Mallows Bay
The “Ghost Fleet” of Mallows Bay is the largest collection of sunken vessels in the Western Hemisphere. Constructed during World War I, the remains of over 100 wooden vessels rest in the shallow bay waters and along its shoreline marking one of the most curious yet important periods in the Nation’s maritime history. Bring a canoe, kayak or walk along the shore. Join local historians and archaeologists who will share the stories of Mallows as part of the cleanup activities This event is associated with potomaccleanup.org Potomac River Cleanup Event at Mallows Bay April 11, 2015, 8:30a* to 12:00p http://trashnetwork.fergusonfoundation.org/event/2327/show *This event begins at 8:30a to coincide with a lower tide level FOR MORE INFORMATION: Sammy Orlando paul.orlando@noaa.gov Photos courtesy of Don Shomette
