financial leadership for challenging times
As the American and growing global economic crisis barrels
onward, managing the new realities of business in 2009
requires clear direction for moving forward in uncharted
waters. Calculated, measured action by financial executives
can keep businesses on an even keel, but only if they have
access to current research and proven methods.
Bringing together world-class leadership, IT and economic
authorities, Summit 2009 will provide pragmatic insight to
help you keep your bearings in today’s stormy weather.
Dear Colleagues:
As the new President & CEO of FEI, it is my pleasure to invite you to participate in
Navigating New Realities at the Summit ’09 Leadership Conference in Grapevine, Texas.
Attendees at this year’s conference will include CFOs, Controllers, Treasurers, VPs
of Finance and other financial professionals from around the world. In addition,
government policy makers, academic scholars and researchers, economists and business
leaders will present and discuss the latest topics and proactive tactics in finance and
business today.
The conference program consists of general sessions and keynote speakers, and this
year’s tracks include: Executive Leadership & Development; Corporate Finance for Private
Companies; and Finance & Information Technology. Summit will provide the most upto-date and advanced information over two days, and also provides opportunities for
financial professionals to network and exchange ideas on IFRS, the economy, healthcare,
leadership, diversity and more.
We have a fantastic line-up of speakers, including the interactive panel session View from
the C-Suite. Please take a look at this brochure for session details and register today.
I am looking forward to meeting you in Grapevine in May at what I know will be an
interesting and enjoyable event!

Better Ethics NOW — Charting a Course to Avoid a Storm
All too frequently, news of yet another high-profile business’s ethical wrongdoing hits the
media. In addition to increasing the costly needs of ethical oversight and management, each
incident also underscores the public’s ever-diminishing trust in corporations and institutions —
perceptions which impact the bottom line for years to come. This session will provide simple but
essential foundation ideas for preventing ethical pitfalls, including ways to assure your employees
keep ethics in mind in every business decision and five concrete things you can do today to
dramatically reduce your ethics risk and that of your company.

Turning the Tide: How Wellness Promotion Can Combat
the Healthcare Crisis
➤➤
As healthcare treament costs continue to rise, most companies recognize the potential
cost-savings of wellness promotion programs yet few know how to implement them
for the greatest return on investment. In fact, many strategies simply don’t work. This
discussion will provide insight into what investments really work and which ones do not,
and will introduce ways you can promote “active consumerism” and emphasize personal
accountability as a means to offset the trend of rising costs.

voiding the Ethics Risks They Never Told You About in
A
Business or Accounting School!
Many of the ethical issues we face in our careers are actually well outside of our expertise
as financial executives. Will you recognize them and know how to respond appropriately?
Some of these situations require specific responses while for others there is no clear right
or wrong response. How will you manage these disturbing and potentially extremely costly
issues? Using real world examples of ethical situations and an entirely interactive format,
Dr. Bauer will help you understand the “nuts and bolts” of ethical reasoning and how to
apply it to your decision-making during these often-unseen or ignored ethical challenges.

leveraging the whole endeavor to help actualize business strategy as well as realize cost and

The Truth About Privacy, Data Protection, and Cybersecurity
➤➤
By the time a data breach has occurred at your company, it’s too late to assess privacy and
cybersecurity priorities. Whether the violation leaked millions of customers’ information or
exposed an internal regulatory issue, dragging your company through protracted litigation
or regulatory action, the damage has been done. Profits will be in peril, morale will suffer
and the negative publicity will be far-reaching. Yet ample privacy and data protection
continues to elude even the world’s top companies. Describing ways to build a successful
enterprise-wide program for privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity, this session will
include the three greatest privacy pitfalls for financial services companies.

Charting a Course for a Sound eDiscovery Process
The amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) established stricter expectations
for electronically stored information (ESI), and many large, public companies have
incurred severe fines and litigation penalties due to eDiscovery failures. “We can’t find
that information” is not a defense, and ad-hoc programs are extremely costly and often
come up short. A comprehensive eDiscovery process must be able to get the job done
in a scalable and effective manner, under tight deadlines, and with the joint efforts of
multiple groups, particularly legal and IT.
In this session you will discover ways to implement a process-oriented approach
for preserving ESI, how to establish effective search strategies, what pre-litigation planning
needs to be done now, and the essential components of building an eDiscovery team.
