Story Times The library hosts story times for different developmental levels in the Susan Mathews Memorial Children’s Theatre. Free tickets will be passed out 15 minutes before each story time. Toddler Story Times for 0 - 2 years September 3—December 10 Tuesdays at 10:15 & 11:00 am Preschool Story Times for 2 1/2 - 5 years September 4—December 11 Wednesdays at 10:15 & 11:00 am Preschoolers at Play Monday, September 9 10:15 to 11:15 am (drop in program) Art on a Cart– Pirates! Decorate a pirate hat and sword and make a spyglass. Monday, September 16 10:15 and 11:00 am. Fit ’n’ Fun - Come for music, movement & fun! Monday, September 23 10:15 to 11:15 am (drop in program) Science for Little Explorers — Explore the senses. Monday, September 30 1 show at 10:15 am Magic Man — Dan Brinkman from Party Animals will come to entertain the preschool crowd with magic. September 12 — Lava Lamp Science—Learn the science behind lava lamps and make one of your own. September 19—Pirate Party—Celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day with pirate activities! Dress like a pirate and win a prize! September 26—Webkinz® Club—Bring your favorite Webkinz® or stuffed animal! October 3 — Build It with LEGO® - Show off your LEGO® building skills. LEGO® materials are supplied by the library. October 10— Art in Dots—Learn about Pointillism and the vision of Seurat with visual and hands-on experience. October 17—Super Hero Party —Take part in crafts featuring your favorite super heroes. Wear a super hero costume or logo and win a prize! October 24—Webkinz® Club - Bring your favorite Webkinz® or stuffed animal! October 31—Happy Halloween—Celebrate Halloween with a craft and treats. November 7 — Build It with LEGO® - Show off your LEGO® building skills. LEGO® materials are supplied by the library. November 14 — Exploring Space—Learn about the Maven Mission that NASA will launch this year and take part in spacerelated activities. November 21—Starry Night—Learn about Vincent van Gogh with visual and hands-on experience. November 28—Library Closed for Thanksgiving. L e a g u e C i t y , T X · 7 7 5 7 3 Helen Hall Library September—December 2013 Teen Advisory Board 1st and 3rd Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 pm The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) helps plan activities, assists with special events at the library, and helps make decorations for the teen area. Snacks are served and participation counts as leadership and/ or service hours. New members are always welcome. September 4 September 18 October 2 October 16 November 6 November 20 December 4 No meeting December 18 Back to School Survival Boot Camp Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Teens will make a back to school survival kit to help them make it through the school year ahead. We will have a drawing for a Half Price Books gift card. Banned Books Week: Tweet Book Quote Contest Sunday, September 22 through Saturday, September 28, 2013 Stop by the teen area during Banned Books Week and try to guess what books our 140 character or less quotes are from. The entry with the most correct answers will receive a prize. Library Miniature Golf Friday, September 27, 2013 from 5:45 to 7:00 pm Teen Advisory Board has designed a miniature golf course in the stacks of the library. Join us to play through their fun course. This program takes place after the library has closed. Only teens in 6th—12th grade will be permitted to remain in the library. Walker St., League City, TX 77573 (281) 554-1113 Seek the Unknown Book Contest Sunday, October 13 through Saturday, October 19, 2013 Mystery Scavenger Hunt Friday, October 18, 2013 from 5:45 to 7:00 pm We have shred an entire damaged book and placed it in a jar. Stop by the library anytime during Teen Read Week to guess what book is in the jar. If you correctly identify the book you will receive a prize and be entered into a grand prize drawing. The drawing will take place on Monday, October 21. A murder has been committed in the library. Teens will follow a series of clues in a scavenger hunt to find the killer. This program takes place after the library has closed. Only teens in 6th—12th grade will be permitted to remain in the library. Please arrange for a ride to pick you up at 7:00 pm. Sherlock Holmes Celebration Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 12:00 to 2:30 pm Sherlock Holmes Weekend is celebrated the weekend of November 2-3. Dress in your best Sherlock costume and enjoy pizza for lunch while we watch Sherlock (2009) (PG-13). Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Bristle Bots Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Make a small robot using a toothbrush. Catching Fire Party Friday, November 15, 2013 from 5:45 to 7:00 pm Catch up on the second book in the Hunger Games Trilogy before the movie premiere. There will be trivia, snacks and more. This program takes place after the library has closed. Only teens in 6th—12th grade will be permitted to remain in the library. Please arrange for a ride to pick you up at 7:00 pm. Teen activities are for teens in 6th through 12th grade only. Parents and younger siblings will not be admitted.
