Yankel Ginzburg Bas–Relief www.yankelginzburg.com ABOUT THE ARTIST: ABOUT THE PROCESS: Internationally acclaimed artist Yankel Ginzburg, who was born in the Soviet Union, educated in Israel, and now resides in the United States, has been a prominent force in the contemporary art world for nearly four decades. Recognized to possess a special creative talent, Ginzburg was the youngest student ever admitted to the Academy of Art in Israel. He was only seventeen when visiting artist Marc Chagall first lit upon his works and remarked, “It took me 40 years to capture Paris. This youngster will capture the world even before his hair turns gray!” Living up to that prophecy, Ginzburg’s creative talent continues to soar towards the heavens. He explores and creates in all forms of media. His elegant and boldly colored paintings, whether in acrylic, oil, or watercolor, capture the imaginations of collectors and critics the world-over. His optical-acrylic sculptures seductively mesmerize as they emanate a sense of eternal strength and everlasting beauty. His noted shows include a one-man exhibit at the Washington Art Gallery in Washington, DC, as a guest of First Lady Lady Bird Johnson; a one-man exhibit at the Cairo Museum of Art, as a guest of President Anwar Sadat; a one-man exhibit at the Moscow Art Academy as a guest of President Boris Yeltsin of Russia; and a private exhibition with the Sultan of Brunei. Ginzburg’s artistic accomplishments are numerous and have been chronicled in five hard cover art books, a documentary film by Eli Nisan and recently he was the subject of a one-hour nationally televised documentary produced by VIACOM, directed by Liron Unreich, titled “Ladders.” Ginzburg is also noted for his humanitarian efforts on a global scale. During the collapse of the former Soviet Union, he founded the Fund for Democracy and Development, with the late President Richard Nixon serving as its first President. During its existence the Fund raised more than $240 million to aid the people of the former Soviet Republics. He helped raise two tons of infant formula and medical supplies for the starving children of Cambodia and personally delivered them with the help of Senator Bennett Johnston of Louisiana. He has been a strong advocate of the peace process in Israel, is the Vice-President of the International Jewish Fund for Disaster Relief, and a board member of The Middle East Policy Council. Mr. Ginzburg is the recipient of two Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters. To quote Herman Taube, author and Pulitzer Prize nominee, “What is remarkable about Yankel Ginzburg is not just the variety and strength of his art and the scope of his genius of the interplay of colors: what is noteworthy are the vibrations people get when gazing at his works and learning about the human being Yankel Ginzburg. Genuine talent combined with humanity, blended together with a brush led by God’s hand...” To quote Pulitzer Prize author Herman Wouk, “Yankel Ginzburg is climbing, I don’t know how high he will go, but the top of his ladder touches heaven.” THREE DIMENSIONAL PAINTED BAS-RELIEF EXTERIOR WALL HANGINGS Azek, a building product company, has been producing a space age water resistant building material for the past five years. As an artist with an eye on new products and a new way of expressing myself, I have experimented with Azek wall boards and successfully created three dimensional bas-reliefs painted with lightfast exterior paint suitable for outdoor display in various weather conditions. Some of the examples of these outdoor creations are included in this brochure as well as their potential applications. The process of creating the Ginzburg wall hangings is as follows: After a design is chosen and the size of the work has been determined (the work can be as small as 2’ x 4’ or as large as 8’ x 16’) a drawing of the shape desired is affixed to a 1 inch thick Azek sheet, cut into a specific form, milled into the desired routing effect and then painted with lightfast exterior art quality paint. Once the painting process is completed a heavy UV clear protective coating is sprayed on the surface of the bas-relief in multiple coats to assure many years of longevity. The bas-reliefs are fixed to the designated wall in such a manner that they appear to be floating and with the aid of light or sun a shadow cast by them will amplify the three-dimensionality of the wall hanging. Azek material is truly a space age material and many of the new homes are already being built from it. Azek, being a plastic material, will last indefinitely. Azek products are cellular PVC with the unequalled combination of Uniformity, Durability, Workability and Beauty.
