Camp Conestogo Day Camp 1 Camp Conestogo Located off Jones Baseline North of Wellington Road 124 Ages: 6-7, 8-9, 10-12 (as of December 31st 2016) Cost: $178.50/week (Aug. 2-5 is a 4 day week of camp. Reduced rate of $142.80/week. Ext. Care $30/wk) Regular Camp Hours: 8:30am-5:00pm Extended Care Hours ($37.50/wk): 7:00-8:30am & 5:00-6:00pm What makes Camp Conestogo so great? Camp Conestogo Y Day Camp provides an ‘unplugged’ setting that encourages connections with others and the natural world. The beautiful setting of Guelph Lake offers unique programming that supports youth to have fun while developing lifelong skills and realizing the best in themselves and others. Camp Conestogo offers a traditional camp program with highlighted activities related to each theme throughout the week. Camp Conestogo is unique in that campers are engaged in an outdoor setting all day with the feel of an off-site overnight camp, but with the ability to return home each evening to the comfort of their own beds. Camp Conestogo is one of a kind in our community offering activities such as low ropes, canoeing, lake swimming, nature hikes, camp fires and more. Camp Conestogo is a great way to introduce your child to a traditional camp experience, if they are not quite ready for the overnight camp experience! Camp Conestogo provides youth and teens with the opportunity to connect and engage with nature and each other in ways that build confidence, improve social skills and foster independence and leadership - all while having fun! Don’t forget to bring: • Bathing suit and towel • Sunscreen & hat • Packed lunch with snacks (no nuts please) • Running Shoes • Lots of Water What makes Camp Conestogo Unique? Low Ropes Youth will be challenged to work cooperatively to complete low ropes course challenges. This programming offers opportunities that support the growth of positive self-esteem through personal goal setting and team building initiatives. Our 11 different low ropes elements such as ‘The Bermuda Triangle’, ‘Low Vee’ and ‘Cargo Crossing’ are set within the woods and throughout our camp property to provide varying initiatives for campers to complete each week. 124 Camp Conestogo N E W S Guelph Lake Conservation Area Guelph Lakes Golf & Country Club Guelph Lake 124 Extended Care ($37.50/wk) Extended Care is offered at two of our bus pick up/drop off locations for those who need extra care before and after regular camp hours: • YMCA-YWCA of Guelph (130 Woodland Glen Dr.) 7:00-8:30am & 5:00-6:00pm • Trinity United Church (397 Stevenson St., N.) NEW Drop off/Pick up- Side Driveway Entrance located on LOCATION Balsam Drive. The Beach & Lake Campers have the opportunity to enjoy a daily swim in beautiful Guelph Lake. Our beach front is a favourite spot for campers, while they are supported in improving their swimming technique or simply playing and splashing with friends in the water. Campers are supported through a swim test each Monday to help us identify all swim levels. Different swim levels are given wrist bands and rules to follow to keep our campers safe while enjoying their daily swim in the lake. Camp Fire This outdoor setting provides the opportunity for a traditional camp fire throughout each week of camp. Campers will gain the skills to build a camp fire safely in a small group setting, while enjoying some hands on traditional camp fire cooking. Don’t forget about the fun camp fire songs that campers will go home singing each day! Nature Hikes Campers will be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the marked trails within the camp forest. Campers will be engaged to learn more about nature through hands on programming, created for each individual hike, that is age appropriate and encourages our campers to be excited about their natural surroundings. Canoeing Our qualified Canoe Instructor will teach campers the fundamentals of canoeing in a fun engaging way. Campers will get to work on their technique throughout the week to increase their skill set by Friday. Paddling across our calm lake with friends, enjoying the beautiful scenery and sounds is a lasting memory all campers take with them. Camp Conestogo Themes By Week 6 - 7 Year Olds Art Attack Jr. (Wk #1 July 4 – July 8) Let’s get messy! Prepare for a week of messy hands on age appropriate crafts out at the lake. Campers will be engaged through traditional camp activities with a focus on arts and craft projects throughout the week. Where the Wild Things Are (Wk #2 July 11 – July 15) Enjoy a week of Wild Things at Camp Conestogo. Let’s explore and learn about all the creepy crawlies, creatures and animals of the forest through age appropriate play. Campers will also enjoy traditional camp activities throughout each day that may not be theme based. Amazing Race Jr. Conestogo (Wk. #3 July 18 – July 22) Be prepared to race your way to the finish line! With a series of wacky and wild, age appropriate obstacles and challenges, campers will work 3 together in groups as well as individually to complete them. Who will be the ultimate Amazing Race Jr. Conestogo Champions? Traditional camp activities will also take place daily that may not be theme based. Amazing Discoveries Jr. (Wk. #4 July 25 – July 29) Enjoy a week full of adventures through age appropriate scavenger hunts in the woods, art projects involving the environment and discoveries through hands on play out at the lake. Traditional camp activities will also take place throughout the week that may not be theme based. Try a Sport Jr. *(Wk. #5 August 2 – August 5) Introduce your child to a variety of age appropriate team sports this week at camp. Campers will get a chance to be active outdoors while learning the basics of team sports that they will enjoy thru a lifetime. This week will include fun, non competitive drills, play and team building initiatives. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. All Things Recycled Jr. (Wk. #6 August 8 – August 12) A week of hands on age appropriate activities that introduce campers to the world of recycling. Crafts, games and play will be enjoyed using recycled materials. Campers will get a chance to build and create using their imaginations and a large variety of recycled materials. Traditional camp activities will also take place throughout the week that may not be theme based. Jr. Survivor Conestogo (Wk. #7 August 15 – August 19) Get ready to work together with your teams to complete age appropriate, immunity challenges that will test your limits this week. An interactive Tribal Council will take place at times throughout the week with an interesting Conestogo twist that is designed for our 6 and 7 year olds. Traditional camp activities will also take place throughout the week that may not be theme based. Jr. Tripper (Wk. #8 August 22 – August 26) Campers will be introduced to the world of outdoor tripping as they learn and get excited about the very basics of canoeing, setting up a tent, building a camp fire and much more. Campers will be invited to participate in a 2 hour trip including a hike, a paddle and a picnic lunch in the woods to put their new skills into action. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. Olympics Conestogo Jr. (Wk. #9 August 29 - September 2nd) Get ready to represent a country as you use your creativity, energy and enthusiasm to complete the many Olympic events being held this week at the lake. An interactive podium ceremony with medals will take place throughout the week. Traditional camp activities will also take place throughout the week that may not be theme based. 8 - 9 Year Olds Art Attack (Wk #1 July 4 – July 8) If you like art and like to get messy, this is the camp for you! Prepare for a week of messy hands on art projects designed just for 8 and 9 year olds out at the lake. Eco Adventures (Wk #2 July 11 – July 15) Enjoy a week of exciting adventures out at the lake. Let’s explore how all the creatures of the forest and lake live through engaging hands on activities that are perfect for 8 and 9 year olds. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. 10-12 Year Olds Team Building 101 (Wk #1 July 4 – July 8) Let’s work together as a group to understand the basics involved with being a strong team. Our 10-12 year olds will become a close knit group this week as we remove the barriers that can sometimes get in the way and cause our groups to not function to their full potential. Topics such as bullying, self awareness, respect, responsibility, personal goal setting and team dynamics will all be facilitated through hands on engaging activities that make our youth stop and think. We ensure a week of positive growth while encouraging life-long friendships. Adventures in Tripping (Wk #2 July 11 – July 15 & *Wk. #5 August 2 – August 5 & Wk. #8 August 22 – August 26) Campers will be introduced to the world of outdoor tripping as they learn the basics of canoeing, setting up a tent, building a camp fire as well as some leadership fundamentals. Campers will be invited to support in leadership roles as we help lead our younger campers on a 2 hour hike and paddle while enjoying a picnic lunch. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. Drama, Drama and More Drama (Wk. #4 July 25 – July 29) Let us help you step outside your comfort zone this week as we get engaged through super fun drama and role playing activities. An emphasis on building our confidence while having fun in a non threatening environment will support our youth this week to reach their full potential. Youth can decide if they would like to create a week end performance to share with the rest of camp that is their very own creation. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. Amazing Race Conestogo (Wk. #6 August 8 – August 12) Be prepared to put your limits to the test this week! With a series of crazy obstacles and other challenging activities, campers will work together in groups as well as individually to complete them. Our 1012 year olds will work to help create some of the challenges for our younger campers while helping to facilitate them as well. Who will be the ultimate Amazing Race Conestogo Champions? Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. Camp Fire Cooking (Wk. #7 August 15 – August 19) Everyone loves traditional Smore’s cooked over the fire. Campers will get to have a turn building our fire while making other tasty creations to enjoy throughout the week. A focus on fire safety will be learned through hands on activities that encourage campers to stay engaged and have a role when by the fire each day. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. Hawaiian Luau (Wk. #9 August 29 - September 2nd) This is final week out at the lake and let’s make it fun! How about planning and implementing an end of camp Hawaiian Luau that our 10-12 year olds invite the younger campers to. Limbo, lantern building and a Hawaiian grass skirt traditional dance party are just a few of the events this group will need to work on and prepare for the final end of the week Luau. Campers will also be engaged through traditional camp activities throughout the week that may not be theme based. Sports Unlimited (Wk. #3 July 18 – July 22) Calling all campers who love to play outdoor sports. This week is designed for our 10-12 year olds who want to be active and engaged while playing many different sports outside throughout the week rather than just focusing on one. Basic fundamental moves will be broken down that will support growth within many different sports. Campers will get an opportunity to teach some of the younger campers their skills related to their favourite sport while trying a new sport or two that maybe they have never tried. **Please note that running shoes are a mandatory requirement to participate in this camp (no sandals please).
