Setting Up ActiveSync: While ActiveSync will normally open up when you connect your PDA to your computer, a more certain way of opening it would be to go through the Start Menu: 8 Figure 14 After starting ActiveSync up for the first time, you will notice two things. The first is an icon in XP’s Notification area, on the bottom right of your desktop, indicating that ActiveSync is open. 9 Figure 15 You will also get the ActiveSync Window, indicating the device is not connected. Figure 16 10 Once you see this screen, connect the PDA to the computer. When you do, you will see that the PDA is connecting. Figure 17 11 If this is the first time connecting the PDA to this computer, you will be taken to the Set Up wizard to set up a partnership with this PDA. While this is not necessary to connect the PDA to the computer, doing this will save time on future connections. Figure 18 12 NOTE: If the PDA has already been connected to two computers before, you will get the screen in Figure 19 You may get this next screen, stating that you need to set up this computer with the PDA. Simply delete any existing synced computers, and then click next. If only one other computer is connected, simply click ‘Next’ when you reach a screen like Figure 20. Figure 19 - OR SEE BELOW - 13 Figure 20 14 Figure 21 15 Figure 22 After this, you should see that the PDA is connected via ActiveSync. Installing .net Framework 2.0: Some older versions of Windows XP may require that additional software be downloaded, so all programs can run correctly. One of the more common pieces of software needed is .Net Framework 2.0. You can find this program at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19 . Figure 27 18 Figure 28 Figure 29 Figure 30 19 At this point, the installation should be straight-forward. Simply click the ‘Next’ box at the bottom of the screen until the program is fully installed. NOTE: This program may take a number of minutes to install, so if you think it might be ‘frozen’ or ‘hanging up’, just wait a few minutes to see if it will continue. 20 Installing WinRAR There are certain older versions of Windows XP that cannot use our program’s built in extractor, and will need a program called ‘WinRAR’ installed. This program can be downloaded from http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar420.exe . Once this program is downloaded, either click the ‘Run’ option in the dialogue box that appears, or save it to your desktop, and then double click the program to start the installation. Figure 31 21 Figure 32 22 Figure 33 23 Figure 34 At this point, all programs that would be needed for you to successfully operate our software on a computer running Windows XP have been successfully installed. 24
