At this time, ActiveSync is successfully installed on your computer, and you may move
to the next step of setting your PDA up with it.
Setting Up ActiveSync:
While ActiveSync will normally open up when you connect your PDA to your computer,
a more certain way of opening it would be to go through the Start Menu:

Figure 14
After starting ActiveSync up for the first time, you will notice two things. The first is an
icon in XP’s Notification area, on the bottom right of your desktop, indicating that
ActiveSync is open.
9
Figure 15
You will also get the ActiveSync Window, indicating the device is not connected.

Once you see this screen, connect the PDA to the computer. When you do, you will see
that the PDA is connecting.

If this is the first time connecting the PDA to this computer, you will be taken to the Set
Up wizard to set up a partnership with this PDA. While this is not necessary to connect
the PDA to the computer, doing this will save time on future connections.

NOTE: If the PDA has already been connected to two computers before, you will get the
screen in Figure 19 You may get this next screen, stating that you need to set up this
computer with the PDA. Simply delete any existing synced computers, and then click
next. If only one other computer is connected, simply click ‘Next’ when you reach a
screen like Figure 20.

At this point, ActiveSync is properly set up and you may move to the next program
installation.
Installing .net Framework 2.0:
Some older versions of Windows XP may require that additional software be
downloaded, so all programs can run correctly. One of the more common pieces of
software needed is .Net Framework 2.0. You can find this program at
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19 .

At this point, the installation should be straight-forward. Simply click the ‘Next’ box at
the bottom of the screen until the program is fully installed.
NOTE: This program may take a number of minutes to install, so if you think it might be
‘frozen’ or ‘hanging up’, just wait a few minutes to see if it will continue.

Installing WinRAR
There are certain older versions of Windows XP that cannot use our program’s built in
extractor, and will need a program called ‘WinRAR’ installed. This program can be
downloaded from http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar420.exe .
Once this program is downloaded, either click the ‘Run’ option in the dialogue box that
appears, or save it to your desktop, and then double click the program to start the
installation.
