EVANSTON EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS
Early childhood professionals nurture families and children
through a relationship- and play-based approach to learning
to support the compassionate, creative and cognitive growth
of children 2 to 5 years old. Low teacher/child ratios, bright
and large classrooms, a natural outdoor play setting and a
green building provide a healthy environment where Jewish
values and celebrations are woven into an inclusive, emergent
curriculum responsive to each child’s approach to learning.

ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
PRE-SCHOOL FOR ALL supports children who are
at risk for school success. Risk factors may include but
are not limited to: low income; English is not home
language; chronic health problems; difficulties with
social interactions; vision, hearing, or communication
difficulties; or a child with special needs. For families
who need full day programming, they must either be
eligible for a child care subsidy or scholarship to pay
for the balance of the day.
LEARNING TOGETHER provides on-site services for
children with special needs at child care programs.
Services include Speech and Language Therapy,
Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health services.
Most services are provided in small groups that include
a classroom teacher. Children get the services they
need and teachers learn new ways to help all the
children in their care. Teachers and parents gain
knowledge and effective teaching strategies from
the therapists leading the program.

• Communitywide Scholarships support Evanston
families whose income is over the state subsidy
eligibility guidelines. The scholarship funds not
only provide intermediate support between the
subsidy and the high cost of quality care, but these
also funds allow children to maintain consistency
of care and early education in quality early
childhood programs. Without these funds, many
families would not have access to these programs.

MALE INVOLVEMENT GROUP is offered by CNE
Early Head Start for active male role models of EHS
children. An active male role model may include a
child’s father, uncle or a non-relative that is a positive
influence in the child’s life. EHS recognizes that mothers
and fathers, as well as active involved males play an
essential role in the healthy development of each child.
