Printing systems structure and finish surfaces as well as creating very fine functional layers with high precision, produce touch displays and diabetes test strips, decorate every imaginable type of product. In the ceramic, furniture and textile industry, printing processes are substituting conventional methods of decoration. Today there are more than 5,000 tile printing facilities worldwide and more than 170 gravure printing presses printing laminate floors, first industrial inkjet printers are in operation. For the world’s largest textile user IKEA, printing is the method of choice for decorating fabrics, shower curtains, bedspreads and upholstered furniture. Nowadays, motorcycle helmets, skis, snowboards, car dashboards and keypads on electrical appliances are decorated by a variety of printing methods. According to forecasts from market researchers at Smithers Pira, by 2020 the sales volume of industrial printing will double to more than US $ 100 billion. In this market, printing press manufacturers often supply modules including appropriate interfaces for easy integration in other suppliers’ systems or customer processes for additional features. Printing is also exploring new dimensions. For example, direct printing on three-dimensional objects is increasingly replacing the use of labels. Systems for personalised printing on plastic objects are appearing on the market and will be on show at drupa as well. The growing number of specialised applications is due to a key industry trend: Print 4.0. In the highly developed, diverse production environment in the printing industry ‚off-the-shelf’ solutions can no longer cope with requirements. Printers need solutions optimized to their individual needs. These solutions must be fully integrated with other machines and systems, digital interfaces have to ensure monitoring process quality and performance. One of the latest developments is thin functional coatings which are used in digital printing applications, but also improve the transfer characteristics of both inking and dampening rollers in offset printing. The easy-to-clean properties of products such as ProAqualis, ProColora and Golden Pearl also help reduce make-ready time and increase productivity. The parts shown are examples of different coating materials for rollers for industrial printing. Böttcher rollers, sleeves, blankets and printing chemicals are used in industrial printing applications such as packaging production ranging from folding cartons to film/foil, labels and beverage cans. Böttcher offers highly specialised roller coverings in a wide range of rubber types and in polyurethane, all developed in Dr. Stefan Breidenbach A global player with 21 production sites and more than 1,950 staff in 39 countries, Böttcher is the main supplier of both machine manufacturers and the end user market in all sectors of industry: printing, paper, metal, wood, plastic, glass, textile and office communication.
