All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 1.0 Introduction 1.01 CADD Standards Review Committee The CADD Standards Review Committee is chartered with developing, enhancing and maintaining electronic CADD Standards to enhance our ability to consistently develop CADD files and share work across multiple offices and/or AECOM companies. This standard will be used when there is no required client standard. A process begun in February of 2001 is completed. It was focused on the AECOM Initiative to share work among sister companies. To this end it was decided that a unified CADD Standard needed to be developed and used when the client has no standards. A Steering Committee was formed by Erik Oistad, which included Dan Crumb of DMJMH+N Denver, Mark Kiker of DMJMH+N Orange, and John Kizior of DMJMH+N Phoenix. Under their direction a team was formed called the CADD Standards Review Committee (CSRC). Since the merger of DMJMH+N this committee was initially chartered to deliver a unified standard for use within the DMJMH+N family of offices and locations. The CSRC determined that the standard should be based on an emerging National CADD Standard (NCS). Ray Karenas of McClier provided initial overview of the NCS. It was soon envisioned that this unified standard could be used throughout AECOM. developed we proceeded to review the NCS based on our Critical Items List. Our goal is to comply with the NCS. Where the NCS is silent we strive to use the “best of breed” methods gathered from all of the sister company standards. By complying with the NCS, we can also share work with subs and clients who have also adopted the NCS. This CADD Standard should be considered for all AECOM companies internal use and for WorkShare initiatives between AECOM companies when the client has no standard requirements. This standard will be used when there is no required client standard. This Standard is to be used on all new projects started in AutoCAD 2002 based products. As we progressed the CSRC grew to include representatives from all AECOM entities (excluding Maunsell). The team broke down the process into Critical Items that needed to be included and defined in a standard. Once this list was Page 3 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 1.02 CSRC Roles and Responsibilities The Standard will be maintained and modified by the same team that created it. The CSRC will become the clearinghouse for any follow-on issues. The CSRC will also develop custom tools for use in AutoCAD that will assist in the compliance with the Standard. These custom software tools will be developed, programmed, distributed, updated and maintained by a CADD Development Team spanning several operating companies and office locations. This implementation will provide Menus, Routines and tools that will aid in using the Standard. This implementation will provide training in the understanding and use of the Standard, which is to be developed and reviewed by this committee. An additional document will outline the tools and tips that the CSRC maintains. The development and use of the CADD Standard and software tools is not seen as an end in itself. The goal is to enhance productivity and share work among sister companies. To this end the process will never be completed. We will continue to develop and enhance our use of the CADD tools that we use every day. Page 4 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. The following is a list of companies and their level of compliance. Two level of compliance: Company Standard Compliance means the company will be using this standard for all internal CADD file creation whenever the client has no standard requirements. WorkShare Standard Compliance means that the company will use this standard whenever sharing work with another AECOM Company. DMJMH+N, Inc. At various points in this manual you will see footnoted references to the Nation CADD Standard (NCS). We have endeavored to comply with that guideline as much as was deemed practicable. The references were added to provide a link back to that document for cross-reference. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 2.0 CADD File Types There are five different types of files used to generate Construction Document output from AutoCAD. These files, when used properly, will expedite the creation and modification of all drawings in the set. 2.01 MODEL FILES Model files are the basis for all design work. They include the “model” representation of all construction elements in a project, including plan, elevation and section information that delineates what will be built. The general rule is that anything you see at the site after construction will be placed in this type of drawing. All Model Files are drawn full scale in Model Space. No Paper Space entities exist in this file. Each discipline will create a Model file to contain the information needed for their working “design” drawings. Background files will be created from the Model Files. Model files will not be directly referenced to any other files. 2.02 BACKGROUND FILES (X files) Background files will be created from the Model Files as needed to share information with the other disciplines. Background files will be named the same as the Model file with the addition of an “X” in the front of the name. Each time you modify the Model file you must update the Background file. No work will be done on the Background files. Updating Background files is done under the LAYOUT pulldown on the menu. X files will be referenced to Model files and Sheet files. No Model files will be directly referenced to any other files. 2.03 BORDER FILE (XBDR files) The Border drawing is drawn full size in Model Space. It is Xrefed into Paper Space on the Sheet Files at 0,0. The Border file will be located in the BKGND folder under the “G” folder. Please see the file naming section for a full description of Border file names. Additional files needed to create the Title Block or Cover Sheet will be located in the BKGND/G folder. 2.04 SHEET FILES The Sheet file will be used to generate plots, one plot per Sheet file. Each Sheet file will represent only one contract drawing. There will be no multiple generation of plots from one Sheet file. For example, you cannot plot the Architectural Floor Plan and the Reflected Ceiling Plan from the same Sheet file. Sheet files will reference BACKGROUND Files and BORDER file. 2.05 DETAIL SHEETS The Detail files contain all the standard details displayed on the detail sheets. Details, as with any building element drawn, shall be developed and drawn to full “real” scale in model space, however, the final representation of each detail is inserted as a Block in Paper Space on the Sheet file and scaled. Any modification to the details will be done by inserting the detail block into Model Space, revising and reinserting/redefining the detail in Paper Space. Please see section 17.0 for further clarification. Individual Detail files (Blocks) will be explained in Section 4.05 and 17.0 Page 9 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 3.0 Project Folder Structure “Consistent file naming and folder (directory) structures are necessary for management of the information that is reusable from project to project, as well as effective management of the graphical and non-graphical information related to a construction project.” 1 3.01 Basic Folder Tree The location of the Project folders may differ from office to office. All project path data stored in files should be independent of the root drive letter to allow sharing between office server structures. The Root Project Folder must reside directly below the Drive letter. X:/ - Drive Letter (May differ from office to office) Client-Name ProjectNumber [ Admin] CAD Inbox Issue Outbox Support [Admin][Specs]; etc. These optional folder will contain all of the additional files generated to complete the project (this data may be designated to be assigned elsewhere on the network -- see your CADD Manager). This may include memos, notes, faxes, schedules, quotes, etc. CAD This folder will contain all CAD files. explained in the following pages. This is fully Inbox This folder will contain all incoming electronic CADD files from the clients, subs, and others outside the company. Breakdown this folder with subfolders using who it is from and when it was received. Issue Project milestones, such as submittals or issued drawings. No “live” files are to be stored here. This may be the staging area used for creating CDs, after which the files are removed. Outbox This folder will contain all outgoing electronic files sent to clients, subs and others outside the company. Breakdown this folder with subfolders using who it is sent to and when it was sent. [Admin] [Specs]: (Usage is optional) Storage for nonCAD project files, such as budgets, email, reports, etc. Define usage and consistent subdirectories per project or office requirements. 2. CAD: All CAD files for the project. 11. [Temp]: (Usage is optional) User storage for temporary blocks, scratch files, etc. 12. Inbox: Files received from outside sources, kept in a protected folder. When you need to use a file form this folder you will copy it to the BKGND or other appropriate folder. Do not reference or insert files from this folder directly into CADD files. 3. Image: Common location for all raster files used on project CADD files. This folder will be broken down into subfolders using Who_Date. (ex. Inbox/FAA/12-2-02/*.dwg) 4. Bkgnd: Shared background, base, reference or model and border files. These are the files used to build the sheets, and are the latest version of the model files being developed in the discipline directories (see #8). These files are not to be edited, as they will be replaced as needed by the “working files” from the model folder. They should be clean – no referenced files or extra data. This folder is broken down by discipline. 13. Issue: Project milestones, such as submittals or issued drawings. No “live” files are to be stored here. This may be the staging area used for creating CDs, after which the files are removed. 5. Discipline Folders: The various files for each discipline will be separated according to either the single or double 3 character discipline and expanded upon for each discipline’s use. Note: For Discipline Designators see Section 3.02 This folder will be broken down into subfolders using What_Date. (ex. Inbox/Final/12-2-02/*.dwg) 14. Outbox: Files sent to clients / subs / etc. This folder will be broken down into subfolders using Who_Date. (ex. Outbox/FAA/12-5-02/*.dwg) 15. Support: Non-standard items needed for the project, such as a specific pen table, unique symbols, or applications (lisp, script, etc), logos and graphics. 6. Calc: Various calculation, cogo, point, etc files used in the development of the models for that discipline in support of the CADD files. 16. BldgNo: Added if the work includes multiple buildings/facilities under one contract number. Rename this folder to the correct Bldg. name or number 7. Detail: Discipline specific, project detail staging folder. Details will be inserted as blocks from this folder. Additional Notes: 8. Model: The live, working, under development model files. When a model file is ready to be issued for use by the project, it is posted to the \CAD\Bkgnd folder. No files are to be referenced into sheets from here. 9. Sheet: Sheet files for each discipline, built from the CAD files in \Bkgnd and raster files in \Image Network and user permissions are not addressed and are left to the established policies of each office. Deletion and/or creation of additional folders by users is strictly prohibited without consent of the office CADD Manager. 10. Sketch: Drawings put together as examples, exhibits, marketing and other such non-construction documents. May include model and sheet files. Page 13 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 3.04 Variant Folder Tree (Optional) For projects that require phasing, alternative designs, or similar internal separations: Create the phase directories above the discipline directories as required for the project. The common \BKGND folder is still used for all referenced files. If only one discipline has Phasing, then push the Phase Folder under that discipline. This structure allows separations within any discipline, so if only one discipline has phasing, the others do not need to have the additional structure for it. CAD [BldgNo] [Phase_1] Phase, Alternative… A Calc Detail etc… BKGND A C etc… C etc… [Phase_2] A Calc Detail etc… BKGND A C etc… C etc… Page 14 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 3.05 Client Name and Project Number Folders The NCS identifies the necessity for clear and consistent folder structure and limits the number of characters to eight. We will go beyond the eight character limit. Client Name folder is created at the root of the selected drive letter. It is one level above the project number folder to house all projects related to a single client. This organization strategy facilitates the locating and identification of client projects without encumbering the project directories themselves with project name identification. Client names will be limited to 24 characters. Names will be alpha-numeric character designators and/or “ - “ or “ _ ”, but no dots or spaces. Project Number folder consists of four-character minimum, eight character maximum, numeric name. Options include alpha-character final designators and/or “ “ or “ _ ”, but no “ . “ or spaces. Acceptable examples: 1234 or 12345678 or 1234_abc or 1234-56 etc. Example: Client-Name [Client Name folder] 1299_36 [FEL Project] 1299_51C[Bay project “C”] (129936SF or 1299stfe or 12990036 etc.) Page 15 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 4.0 File Naming Guidelines Sheet/Floor numbers 4.01 File Name Components Typically a two or three digit number. When used always include the leading zeros and keep the same number of digits on all files. Project identifiers (optional) Project Identifiers are two-character abbreviation of the Project Name. This field is optional. Identifiers will be defined by each office and coordinated by the CADD Manager. Phase Identifier (optional) Used to break out files by Phases. This field is Optional. Typical File Type Designators File Type Designators are two-character abbreviation for the type of file that is being created For a complete Appendix. list of file types see the Discipline Designators Discipline Designators are one or two-character abbreviations for the discipline that is responsible for the file. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 5.0 Project File Creation 5.01 Model Files Locate all Model files in the discipline specific MODEL folder. Model information is typically divided up by file type (See 4.01). Creation of the model files (whether to combine or split the Model file information based on plan type) shall be decided in the beginning of the project by the originating office, based on design schedule or manpower loading. This would mean that the Reflected Ceiling Plan may be combined with the Floor Plan for small jobs. Typically the RCP and Floor plan would reside in different files. No text entities will be created in the Model files. External Reference files will be Overlaid to the Model files for coordination. Xclip may be used on any drawing files as needed. Users shall follow standard AutoCAD Image commands when attaching images. No entities will exist in Paper Space. 5.02 Background Files (X files) Xref files are created from the Model files by placing a copy of the Model file in the correct BKGND folder, removing all reference files and adding an “X” to the file name. The LAYOUT pulldown menu will create and update the Xref files automatically. Locate all Reference files (Xrefs) in the discipline specific folder beneath the BKGND folder. Each discipline must have it’s own subfolder under the BKGND folder. The BKGND folder is divided in to discipline folders. This folder will contain all of the referenced files for the complete project. No files will be attached that do not reside in one of the discipline folders under the BKGND folder. Using Attach or Overlay will be determined by the nature of the reference. When using Nested Xrefs you must use Attach. All other instances must be Overlaid. Use proper procedures when attaching any and all reference files, which shall be supported by menus and/or lisp routines. No Model files will be directly referenced to any other files. Use only the Xref files from the BKGND folder when referencing. Page 19 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 5.03 Xref Path Names All reference files will be added using Save Full Path. Reference files will be added to all drawings using relative paths. Relative paths do not include the drive letter and reflect the location of the reference file as it relates to the file you are on. Relative path names can be created with ease by using XRP. Reference files shall be added on a specific layer and the prefix for that layer shall be “$xref-“ followed by the reference file name. Also, “$nref-” shall be used when attaching nested reference files to model files. Use one level of nesting. A lisp routine called “XRP” will correct the paths to relative paths. Example XREF paths: Do not use Hard Coded: Q:/BOEING/2765/CAD/BKGND/A/XPC-AFP01.dwg Standard requires Relative: ../../BKGND/A/XPC-AFP01.dwg Page 20 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 5.04 Sheet File Creation Sheet files are located in the Sheet folders under the Discipline folder. Sheet files are created to display the plotting information and construction annotations needed to produce an output file for plotting. To create the Sheet file you may attach or overlay multiple XREF files, from the BKGND folder only, to Model Space and the border to Paper Space. Annotation and dimensions shall be placed on the Sheet files in model space. Only annotations that are unique to a Sheet file shall be placed on paper space. For example, notes, graphic scales, title block text, north arrow, etc. One Sheet file represents one Plot file. The first Layout Tab shall be used for full size plotting. It will use the default name “LAYOUT1”. Page 21 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 6.0 Model Space and Paper Space All projects require the setting of a “Start Point” location for all Architectural files. This location point will be determined by using a lower left corner of the building or intersection of the building grid. This is just a start point for all buildings. No special graphics are required at this point. Once the building is located and drawn, the building must not be moved. Do not relocate the building once the file has been referenced to any other files. This setting for the lower left cover of the building shall be: Imperial = X,Y,Z 100’-0”, 100’-0”, 0” Millimeters = X,Y,Z 100000, 100000, 0 Meters = X,Y,Z 1000, 1000, 0 • The AutoCAD System Variable “Base” must be set to 0,0,0 • All Xrefs shall be Attached or Overlaid at 0,0,0 in Model Space • In general, all Xref files, except for the border file, shall be attached in model space. • Ucsicon be set to on. • No reference files are to be attached to XREF files. Annotation and dimensions shall be placed on the sheet files in model space. Only annotations that are unique to a sheet file shall be placed on paper space. For example, notes, graphic scales, title block text, north arrow, etc. Start Point Page 23 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 7.0 Layer Naming Guidelines The NCS & AIA CAD Layer Guidelines are to be used on all projects as they apply. The Appendix of this Manual has layer names defined more specifically to each discipline. The base nine colors (i.e. 1-9) should be used for each discipline’s base layer names. Other colors can be used as the disciplines define their layers. The format of layer names must follow the two-four-fourfour-one standard, no layer name can exceed this convention. The preferred method is to use just one character for the discipline designator. The last character in the layer name, called the status field, will be modified to allow for scale factor designations in the layer name (i.e. ¼” will be 48, ½” will be 24; ex. A-annotext-48 is a ¼” text layer) This field code will be used for all scale-specific layer names. Specific layer names will define settings for linetype, color & line type and will be defined only ByLayer. Page 24 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 Creating Additional Layers The creation of layer names shall follow the NCS layer naming recommendations. The 1-4-4-4-1 format shown in the AIA guideline shall be followed.15 A - W A L L - F U L L - D E M O - M • The first place is a Discipline Designator letter. By default it is one character long. Two characters may be used if the designator calls for it. When creating new Layer Names – please refer to the Basic Discipline Designators in Section 3.02 • The second place is the Major Group. It is four characters long preceded by a dash. No more – no less. It identifies the major building systems and components. • The third and fourth place is a Minor Group field modifier preceded by a dash. You may use one or both of these fields at your discretion when creating a new layer name. This field delineates further the Major Group. Both fields are also four characters long. Status Field Codes P Proposed Work E Existing to Remain D Existing to be demolished F Future Work T Temporary Work M Items to be Moved X Not in Contract 1-9 Phase Number These modifiers may also be directly tied to the standard pen table. The modifier shall begin with the letters LW (for Line Weight) or SC (for Screened) and end with two digits designating the color associated with the desired plotted pen weight or the percentage of screening. The color designators shall be 01 thorough 09 to encompass the first nine colors of the AutoCAD palette of colors. An example of this modifier is LW01 to designate a plotted line weight determined by Color 1 (Red). • The fifth place is a Modifier used to describe the Status Field Code as it relates to the items on that layer. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 9.0 Text Style/Font Standards The Standard Text size shall be 3/32”. All text shall be UPPERCASE. G-ANNO–NOTE is the general layer for all text. All text shall be “ROMANS” or “ROMAND” where a bold font is desired. All general text shall be a plotted height of 3/32” (equivalent to “10 point”) which reproduces and reduces well on today’s printers, plotters, scanners, faxes and photocopiers. The (MS) SansSerif shall be used for the Sheet No. in the Title Block as this font best differentiates between a number 1 and the letter I and will ease the possible confusion between the Discipline Designator for “Interiors” and the number 1. Sheet number text shall be 3/8”. All other (custom) fonts shall be “exploded” and then a “block” created from the text elements. This would apply to custom logos/names and signage details for example. The intent here is to insure that all parties receiving electronic files need not load any additional fonts. 3/32” Text Style Font Height Width Oblique Upside down Backwards Vertical TEXT ROMANS 0 .80 0 NO NO NO Standard text height for a full scale drawing should be 3/32”. This text height factors according to the plot scale. Text sizes are to be set at the time the text is placed with the MTEXT, DTEXT and TEXT commands. This allows for simple text sizing and manipulation, without the need to create Styles for each text size. Text heights for Titles shall be 1/4” with a ROMAND font. Text height for Matchline text shall be 3/16”. All Text Styles shall define font with a Height of 0, a Width Factor of .80 and an Oblique Angle of 0. Text color/pen widths for each text height will be determined based on Standard Pen Table and Layer Names etc. Annotation and dimensions shall be placed on the Sheet files in model space. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 11.0 Datestamping The NCS addresses the location and individual parts of the Datestamp data, but not how it will be applied to the sheets in CADD. The CSRC agreed that the datestamp should be applied to a plot sheet using either Autolisp or Visual Basic. The programming will be incorporated into a pulldown menu and/or toolbar icon. Once placed, the datestamp data will only update certain fields when the PLOT command is issued. The datestamp must not be manually manipulated. The datestamp will provide the following data: Date/Time Sheet File Name AutoCAD version Username Number of attached references and their names Datestamp located outside the heavy drawing border and inside the cutline, on layer G-ANNO-TTLB-DATE The datestamp block is named DATESTAMP.dwg, inserted at 0,0, color #7 and will be located inside the left binding edge going vertically up the sheet. The layer for the datestamp is G-ANNO-TTLB-DATE. X-BDR inserted at 0,0,0 Page 36 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 12.0 Revision Tracking Clouds will be drawn to encompass the area of the revised work. The clouds shall be drawn with the annotation tools provided in AutoCAD 2002. Each revision will be identified by means of a revision indicator symbol rendered with an annotation triangle or delta with a number attribute identifying the revision in consecutive manner. See the Standard Graphic Symbols in the Appendix. The revision symbol shall be placed touching the cloud, inside the cloud or next to the cloud and connected to it by means of a small leader or arc. All revision symbols and clouds shall be drawn in Paper Space in the sheet (plotting) file. No revision symbols or clouds shall be drawn in the Model files. In cases where the revision clouds must be preserved due to specific project or authority requirements, the clouds of superseded revisions shall be set to a screened color. The revision note that is placed in the Issue Block shall be drawn in a separate layer. The layer name for the revision symbol shall be G-ANNO-TTLB. All revision notes in the Issue Block shall be drawn in this layer. The format for the revision note shall be a revision symbol with the number of the revision, a numerical date of issue and a brief descriptive note of the revised work. OPTIONAL: Revisions can be additionally identified by placing revision symbols along the top and left margins outside the drawing border as locator aids. These symbols will define an orthogonal system to locate the revision within the drawing area. Each revision cloud will be drawn in its corresponding layer. The assigned layer name for this object shall incorporate the number of the revision. There shall be as many such layer names as revisions issued. The layer name for the cloud shall be G-ANNO-REVC-R#, where # stands for the corresponding revision number as listed in the Issue Block. Each revision symbol will be drawn in its corresponding layer. The assigned layer name for this object shall incorporate the number of the revision. There shall be as many such layer names as revisions issued. The layer name for the revision symbol shall be G-ANNO-REVS-R#, where # stands for the corresponding revision number as listed in the Issue Block. As revisions are superseded, the old revision clouds shall be rendered invisible by freezing the layer(s) they are drawn in. All revision symbols shall remain visible as a permanent historical record of revised work in the sheet. Page 37 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 13.0 Standard Symbols The Standard symbols are based on the NCS 7. The Appendix contains a complete display of the symbols to be used. This includes the General Symbols and the Discipline symbols (to be added). The appendix outlines the size, fonts, etc. related to the symbols. The menu will assist in placing symbols. The standard symbols are to be inserted on layer G-ANNOSYMB. Please see the Appendix for Standard Symbols. Page 38 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 14.0 Viewports A Viewport is an AutoCAD component, and therefore the layer naming is not constrained to follow the AIA standard. The Layer Name will be $VPORT. This would keep the layer at the top of the layer list, and could be accessed or ignored easily. The color of the layer will be #31, and be Frozen or set to NO PLOT. Use the menu (shown below) to create and scale Viewports. Select Options after you select scale. The Viewport should be aligned with the sheet grids whenever possible8 . (See Section 16.0) The Viewports themselves must be created as rectangles, snapping to the boundaries of the grid intersections. This applies to Model file and Sheet file Viewports. If match lines are used to create/maintain proper display of Model file entities then Irregular shaped Viewports are allowed that are not constrained to grid intersections. Use the menu to create Viewports. Page 39 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 15.0 Saved Views There are no requirements that demand the creation and use of Saved Views. Those who wish to use saved views are requested to follow these standardized naming conventions. An overall model space view to be called OVERALL A paper space view used to batch plot called PLOT. The Full size plot saved view must use the “LAYOUT1” tab in paper space. Miscellaneous Paper Space Saved View should be named by the border grid location used. (see Section 16.0) When Saved Views are used, it is recommended that all drawing sessions be ended with either the model Overall view or the Sheet file Plot view. When Saved Views are not used, it is required that the files be saved and closed after a Zoom Extents in Model Space (Model files) or Paper Space (Sheet files) Page 40 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 16.0 Title Blocks Sheet Sizes 9 The approved sheet sizes will be a mix of the ANSI and Architectural sheet sizes. The “F” sheet size indicated in the NCS is equivalent to AutoCAD’s “E1” sheet sizes. All future references to a 30”x42” sheet size will be named “E1”. AutoCAD indicates the sheet size for ANSI “F” as 28 x 40. All future references for “F” size will be known by this sheet size. AutoCAD indicates the sheet size for ANSI “D” as 22 x 34 and Arch. “D” as 24 x 36. To avoid confusion of the “D” sizes, all future references to ANSI “D” will be known as “D1”. The NCS includes imperial sheet sizes. Below is a list of the approved sheet sizes: Sheet Sizes A (ANSI) B (ANSI) C (ANSI) D1 (ANSI) D (Arch.) E1 (Arch.) E (ANSI) E (Arch.) F (ANSI) Imperial 8.5 x 11 11 x 17 17 x 22 22 x 34 24 x 36 30 x 42 34 x 44 36 x 48 28 x 40 Additional Title Block Items13: When referenced, the insert point for the titleblock/border file is 0,0,0 in Paper Space. A titleblock attribute data block will be provided. Included in this block will be the typical symbol blocks and text styles required to annotate the plot/sheet file. Titleblock entities will be placed the G-ANNO-TTLB layers. Typical layers for the titleblock will be G-TTLB, G-TTLBANNO, G-TTLB-KPLN & G-TTLB-GRID. The titleblock drawing prototype file names will be XPCBDR30x42.dwg, XPC-BDR36x48.dwg, etc. The titleblock attribute blocks will be named XPCBDR30x42-dtitle.dwg, XPC-BDR36x48-dtitle.dwg, etc. When adding a standard Border file to your project, place it in the BKGND/G folder and rename it using your Project Code in place of the “PC” letters. Because of the complex geometry used by the Civil discipline, the drawing area grid module may not be used for Civil plans and profiles. The key plan will be located in a space above the Issue Block area. Place the key plan on layer G-TTLB-KPLN. Matchlines will be placed in Paper Space. It may be necessary to also place matchlines in model files, so other disciplines can find the matchlines. North arrow and scale(s) will placed in the lower right hand area of the drawing area, just left of the Sheet number. The drawing area coordinate system will be placed outside of the drawing border lines, not inside as shown in the NCS. Page 41 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 Drawing Area Coordinate System The drawing modules are arranged in columns and rows. Columns are identified with numerical characters starting with 1 and increasing to the right. Rows are identified with alphabetical characters beginning at the bottom starting with A and increasing toward the top of the sheet. Each module is therefore identified by a letter and a number. A drawing block may be composed of one or more drawing area modules and is identified based on the lower left-hand location. Details shall be drawn in Full Scale in Model Space. Annotation in details shall be created to reflect the desired plotted scales. The illustration of material textures in the details shall be done by using the standard hatch patterns provided. Under no circumstances shall hatching patterns be exploded. Annotation of details shall be done per the standard lettering fonts and sizes. 1 The standard drawing module size shall be 5-3/4 inches high by 6 inches wide bounding box. Details that require a greater area may be created by using multiple combinations of this bounding box. A ¼” “Safe Zone” buffer will be used to insure that detail entities do not contact the bounding box. Page 55 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 18.0 Detail Use 18.01 Detail Sheet creation Detail sheets shall be created by using the standard drafting sheet divided into standard modules defined by a layout grid11. The modular grid shall be rendered visible in the sheet and in the final plot. The visibility of the grid on detail sheets is Optional. Each project / location shall be consistent. Detail sheets shall be composed by inserting the individual detail drawing files as Blocks onto Paper Space in the Sheet File. Individual Detail Blocks will be inserted by selecting the lower left-hand corner of the drawing modules as the insertion point. Details shall be scaled down to fit the appropriate detail scale factors. The numbering of the details shall be done by using the grid location of the detail. This would mean that the lower right detail module will be “A6” and each detail will take on the number of it’s grid location. Details larger than one module may be inserted in the sheet by encompassing as many contiguous drawing modules as required by the size of the detail. Only full drawing modules shall be used. No fractional portions of modules shall be allowed. The numbering of the resulting detail shall be that corresponding to the drawing module at the lower left-hand corner of the detail. The details shall be identified individually in the detail sheet by means of detail title blocks provided by the standard palette of drafting symbols. The detail title block shall be inserted onto Paper Space at the bottom portion of each detail. All details will be inserted on layer $DETL. (Color 7) 18.02 Detail Editing Details will be edited by inserting the detail block in Model Space, exploding it, editing it, and then redefining the block. When the drawing is saved there should be no details left in Model Space. Live Details shall only exist as inserted blocks in Paper Space. Details shall be edited in the detail sheet file. Editing of details shall be assisted by means of in-house lisp routine to explode, modify and redefine the detail block inside Model Space in the sheet file. Under no circumstances exploding or editing of details shall be done inside Paper Space. The Menu will assist in creating and modifying the details The sequence for inserting the detail onto the detail sheet shall begin at the lower right-hand corner of the drawing area adjacent to the title block and then proceeding from bottom to top and across the sheet from right to left12. Page 56 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 19.0 Plotting Plotting must be standardized in order to achieve a consistent look and feel. This process incorporates the pen table, standard symbology and presentation of the plotting area in a Paper Space Layout. Some of the uses of the Layouts in Paper Space allow us to achieve differing looks for presentations, marketing and illustrations. While this is allowable in the early stages of a project, when construction docs are created we must confine ourselves to an agreed upon procedure and presentation for plotting. This will allow for streamlined tools and batch plotting. When creating Construction Documents plots: Each sheet file shall have only one border located in paper space at 0,0. One file will be used to create one plot. All plots shall be created from paper space using one layout tab settings. All PCP, pc2 and/or pc3 shall be stored in one common location on the server and will be set to read only. Plotting scale shall set to 1:1 in Paper Space. One Sheet file represents one Plot file. The first Layout Tab shall be used for full size plotting. It will use the default name “LAYOUT1”. Each office must set up its own plotting configuration files. Each office will define the software and procedures needed to output and track plots. Generating, storing and delivering PLT files is determined on a project by project basis. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 20.0 Deliverables Conditions for use of released electronic drawing data There are several possible technologies we could use for deliverables, however we recommend that we standardize on one at this time while leaving open the possible use of others as they mature. The following conditions shall apply when providing electronic drawing files to general contractors, subcontractors, vendors or similar entities: We encourage standardization contract deliverables. on CD-ROM for Because we will have a standard folder structure and standard method for building the drawings, the CSRC recommends that the Deliverables CD be a duplicate of the Folder structure on the server. We recommend the originating office gather the drawings from the participating offices and ‘burn’ the deliverable CD. At some time at the end of a project, the files will need to be removed from the servers. We recommend that each office be responsible for archiving their own files AND that the originating office archives the entire deliverable. Other tools that may be used are: FTP Internet based Project Web sites All Web based file transfers Only architectural backgrounds such as floor plans and reflected ceiling plans shall be provided for the purpose of producing shop drawings. Requests for detail sheets shall be evaluated by the Project Manager on the basis of specific project conditions. A release letter signed by the authorized person from the entity requesting the electronic files is required. This letter contains conditions for the use of the released data. The standard agreement for use letter can be found in the DMJMH&H Facilitator under Forms & Applications. A copy of the signed letter shall be kept in the project file. A disclaimer note stating that the released drawing files are not Contract Documents shall be inserted in the area reserved for affixing the professional seal in the title block in each sheet file being released. The electronic drawing files shall be delivered in CD form. Binding of files is to be determined by project and client needs. Adobe PDF files may be created for distribution of single drawing files. When distributing any electronic files, a Disclaimer must be included. Page 60 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate CADD Standard for AutoCAD V.1 21.0 Miscellaneous AutoCAD Guidelines The following is a list of miscellaneous AutoCAD standards used in the creation of Drawing files: All drawing files will be created using "Real World" scale as opposed to "Scaled” representations. If a new drawing needs to be started from scratch, use the standard Company Prototype / Template files. If you cannot locate these files, please contact your office CADD Manager. All Wblocks that transfer plan information and Xrefs will use the insertion point of 0,0. Wblocks that insert plan symbols will be provided with an insertion point logically placed on the symbol. The following is a list of "Don'ts" while working on any AutoCAD drawing: Don’t move the location of the building on the Model file after it has been located or referenced. Don't change the LIMITS of the drawings. They must be set to the cut line of the border sheet in Paper Space. Don't use unauthorized third-party lettering fonts. Don't use any other layering system other than the one defined in this document. Don't use a different Line Color Scheme or Pen-to-Color scheme than indicated in this document. One pentable will be used for all drawing files. Don't use any custom-made or Third-Party hatch patterns. Don't create your own borders. provided by your CADD Manager. Use the border that is Don’t rename the XREFs or Model files once others have referenced them. Don’t rename any project folders once the project has begun. Don’t reference the Model files onto any other files directly. Use the Xrefs for referencing. Even within your own discipline. Don’t “eyeball” anything. creation. Use OSNAPS for all entity Don’t create any entities “BYBLOCK”. Page 61 Copyright © 2002, DMJMH+N. NCS-01.19 NCS -CLG-6 as defined by the NCS NCS -06.12 NCS -CLG-6 The CSRC felt that the NCS & Tri-service Guidelines were limited in the range of pen weights assigned to specific colors. The committee still chose to use as much of the NCS assigned pen weights as possible. The committee chose to use the halftone pen weights described in the NCS, percentage of shading was added. Color 255 is the one exception to the NCS we felt necessary, this color is used by some offices because of its white screen color. The committee realized that the screen color needs to be the same as the plot color, the NCS guideline was not followed. 7. We accept all universal symbols (NCS-06.5 through 06.20) except that the following items referenced by NCS Description and NCS Module Page Number, as noted. • Room Identifier (NCS-06.9), modified to allow Room Area, in lieu of the NCS proposal. • Column Grid Indicator (NCS-06.11), use as indicated and provide a double bubble to allow plotting without adjustment on ¼” and half size ( 1/8” ) plots of plans. • Add Existing Column Grid Indicator, utilizing a hexagon. • Modify the NCS Column Grid Indicator standard (NCS-06.11) to use this additional symbol and provide a double bubble to allow plotting without adjustment on ¼” and half size ( 1/8” ) plots of plans. • Match Line Indicator (NCS-06.11) Use 3/16” characters in lieu of NCS text size and place all text on one side of the match line. • Wall Type Indicator (NCS-06.12) was modified in lieu of the NCS proposal to allow three character identifications and rating indication with the wall type. 8. All Rights Reserved – February, 2002 Corporate Standard Layer Names for AutoCAD - Version 1 The creation of layer names shall follow the NCS layer naming recommendations. The 1-4-4-4-1 format shown in the NCS/AIA guideline shall be followed. A-WALL-FULL-DEMO-M ? The first place is a Discipline Designator letter. By default it is one character long. Two characters may be used if the designator calls for it. When creating new Layer Names – please refer to the Basic Discipline Designators in Section 3.02 ? The second place is the Major Group. It is four characters long preceded by a dash. No more – no less. It identifies the major building systems and components. ? The third and fourth place is a Minor Group field modifier preceded by a dash. You may use one or both of these fields at your discretion when creating a new layer name. This field delineates further the Major Group. Both fields are also four characters long. ? The fifth place is a Modifier used to describe the Status Field Code as it relates to the items on that layer.
