The original candy was straight and completely white in color. The first historical reference to the
familiar cane shape goes back to 1670, when the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany
bent the sugar-sticks into canes to represent a shepherd’s staff. The all-white candy canes were given
out to children during the long-winded nativity services.
Our Hammond’s hand-crooked canes are world-famous and available 365 days of the year.

Not only do our displays give you a place

eye catching and sell candy.
it’s a long story. but a really good one.
It begins over a hundred and fifty years ago with Patsy Mehaney’s secret recipe for candy coated popcorn.
Everyone loved it. And more than a few companies tried to buy it. Unfortunately, Patsy was a better popcorn maker
than card player, and he lost the recipe in a poker game to the company that would later put prizes in the box.
but there’s a surprise ending.
Turns out he gave them a bogus recipe. The candy popcorn you enjoy today is his original. The one everyone loved
in the first place. The one that doesn’t need a prize to get people to try.
