LUX 11 BERLIN-MITTE: A HOUSE THAT ‘SPEAKS BERLIN’ LIKE NO OTHER
Lux 11 is located in the pulsating heart of Berlin-Mitte. Surrounded by the shops of Berlin’s fashion scene, art galleries,
media agencies and countless cafes, bars and restaurants, the essential Berlin is just around the corner.
Hackesche Höfe, Alexanderplatz with the landmark television tower, Gendarmenmarkt, Prenzlauer Berg and Museumsinsel are just a little walk away.
The property was built in the end of the 19th century as a residential building for officers before it became a military
hospital during the First World War. The house also survived the Second World War and was occupied by the Russian
secret service from then on. The KGB operated a telephone surveillance station to monitor the phone conversations
between East and West Berliners. Some weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the agents left the building
overnight, their job was over. From 1990, the neighbourhood became a booming district for arts, underground clubs
and galleries, and so the house was a place of subculture and parties for over a decade. In 2005, after two years of
refurbishment, Lux 11 opened as a boarding house.
It became the favourite of Berlin’s creative scene immediately and is now the most popular designer residence in
Berlin, being fi rst choice for DJs, musicians and celebrities. It offers 72 spacious open-plan apartments, ranging in size
from 25 – 55 m2, featuring a fully equipped kitchenette, creating a truly cosy and at-home feel. All four-star comforts,
such as 24-hour reception and room service, are available. The 160 m2 penthouse can also be used as an exclusive
meeting room.
Lux 11, named after its location on Rosa-Luxemburg-Str. also houses Luchs Restaurant, serving Italian cuisine, and the
bar The Lodge, as well as Aveda HairSpa and the fashion store Ulf Haines.

The penthouse is a spectacular apartment of 160 m2 on the top floor of Lux 11.
With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a large living room and an open

Designer furniture by Brühl, a fi replace and a rooftop terrace directly facing the
TV tower complete the experience. No surprise that many celebrities, actors
and musicians have lived here. A separate entrance guarantees privacy.
The penthouse is also a great place for your event, presentation or photo / fi lm
production. With conference equipment it can accommodate meetings for
up to 20 people.

Luchs is a restaurant with understated elegance,
where food, not design, take centre stage.
The restaurant’s long rectangular dining room
is flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing
massive amounts of natural light to flood the
room. It provides a great contrast to warm
darker tones, such as the charcoal-grey seat
cushions, wooden floor and indirect lighting,
creating a serene and cosy environment.
Luchs has a capacity of 100 guests plus another
60 seats on the sunny terrace.
The cuisine features Italian classics such as
homemade pasta and the best of meat and fish.

If you want to attract the hottest artists, the hippest
actors and the coolest creative types to your hotels, do
what Thomas Tänzer, Elmo Hagendorf and Dirk Dreyer
do in Berlin:
‘ THROW OPEN THE DOORS,
INVITE THEM ALL IN AND
LET THEM RUN WILD. ’
‘Love it or leave it’ – this is the slogan for all of Thomas
Tänzer’s, Elmo Hagendorf's and Dirk Dreyer’s hotels. The
Weinmeister and The Lux in Berlin take aim at just about
every hotel convention left standing.
With the opening of The Weinmeister in July of 2010,
Tänzer and Hagendorf recruited Dirk Dreyer, a former DJ
and record label talent scout, to apply his talents and
experience to managing the two popular Berlin hotels.
Located in the pulsating heart of Mitte, the hotels are
24-hour playgrounds for adults that exude a seductive
draw for fi lm, music and entertainment crowds.
The infl uence of Berlin’s creative scene is felt in many
of The Weinmeister’s design details, from floors done by
the local street art collective, Paint Club, to the graffitisplattered front door or the HURTS room, designed by
the British pop-synth duo.
Photographer Henrik Pfeifer’s black and white photographs are exhibited in each of the hotel’s 88 rooms.
Well connected in the city’s cultural scenes, Tänzer,
Hagendorf and Dreyer have set a new standard in Berlin’s hospitality sector with a set of properties that embody modern comfort and high style.
‘ WE DON’T DO HOTELS –
WE’RE IN THE
ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. ’
‘It’s mainly the mixture when I’m sitting in the lobby,’
says Dreyer, recalling an evening two weeks earlier
when Mando Diao and Juliette Lewis were both staying
at The Weinmeister.
‘I said, “Hey, this is it”. It’s the band, and they brought
their wives and kids, and it’s Juliette Lewis with blue hair
eating goulash soup. And there are fashion people
around and tourists taking pictures of our graffiti entrance. This is the vibe that we want.’

Lux 11 is a favourite of DJs coming to Berlin. On
the weekends, you have a high chance of meeting DJs playing at clubs such as Weekend or
Berghain.
Ante Perry is one of our regular guests. He tells
us about his five travel essentials:
1) Credit cards
Without a credit card life can be hard to you.
You can not even check in to hotels!
2) MacBook
When you’re travelling, you want to use your
time intelligently. Of course you can work, but I
prefer making some beats or watching movies in
planes or trains. And I love using WLAN in hotels!
3) Mobile phone
Sometimes I lose my mobile in Berlin, after having a heavy night. Then I call the reception,
sometimes they’ve found it, sometimes not!
4) Basset
If you have long hair as I have, you need to
brush it after every shower. But if I forgot my basset, I call the reception one more time.
5) Music
Life without music is bad life. At Lux 11 you can
connect your iPhone with a docking station.
The party can begin …
Ante Perry is polarising in many ways – with his
appearance, his uncompromising rocking DJ
sets, his own events, multifunctional productions and his fun with his hedonistic artist’s life
that he shares with anyone who has got the
same sense of humour.
Yes we are talking about the workaholic Ante
Perry who is based in Dortmund. Ante loves
living in hotels – especially at Lux 11 in Berlin.
‘There is a warm atmosphere, top service and
the rooms are well designed and beautiful. It’s
always an experience spending time there.’

THE WEINMEISTER – AN ALLURING ‘GOLDEN CAGE’ IN THE HEART OF BERLIN
The Weinmeister Berlin-Mitte, the newest designer hotel in Berlin, opened its doors in July 2010. The
84-room hotel, located in the Mitte district, one of Berlin’s most dynamic areas, is aimed at business travellers from the fi lm, music, fashion and other creative fields, as well as leisure travellers.
Its core philosophy focuses on rest, comfort, round-the-clock service and stylish rooms that highlight one piece of furniture – an oversized bed, which acts as a room within a room and suggests
‘cocooning’. Each room offers an Apple iMac instead of a TV, allowing guests a wider range
of technology access and reflecting the state-of-the-art modernity of the hotel. Built from the
ground up, the modern six-storey building has a sleek golden matte metal facade and is affectionately called the ‘golden cage’. Inside, there is an ongoing play of contrasts – serious and yet
whimsical through the choice of ‘masculine’ colours and luxurious, soft materials.
A rooftop area provides a bird’s eye view of the surrounding city. The design also features a
BeautySpa, where guests can enjoy massages and cosmetic treatments overlooking Berlin.
The ground floor Schwarz bar, named after the German movie actress Jessica Schwarz, serves
a herbal liqueur made according to her family’s secret recipe. The restaurant serves traditional
German cuisine with a modern twist. Breakfast is available 24-hours a day.

THE WEINMEISTER – ART BERLIN
The Mitte district has been a Mecca of urban art for the last twenty years.
The Weinmeister pays tribute to graffiti, street art and contemporary arts. The hotel’s
entrance was designed by underground graffiti artist GYF5 and is definitely the most
photographed door in Berlin.
The staircase of The Weinmeister made a colourful transformation overnight. During a
party at The Weinmeister for 2010’s musicweek, eight artists from www.paint-club.com
gave the walls of the stairway a complete makeover. The party guests could witness
the action with ladders, platforms, spray cans and tumbling paint buckets from the
glass elevator.
In the corridor of every fl oor guests can gaze at extra-large prints of Berlin-based artist Jana Hammermann. The acrylic and ink drawings of buildings, gates and bridges
in 2 x 3 m large scale are amazingly detailed. www.janahammermann.com

The most beautiful and relaxing place for me over the past 20
years. Excellent staff and management. Personality and authenticity –
can’t be done better. I am a bit
jealous that it isn’t mine. Chris, you
did what I am dreaming of!!! And
thank you for everything, I will return
asap …
Please keep this place very secret.
Always justifies the Chambers motto: Hate it or Love it …
I love it – all of them! The Standard
Hotels are the blueprint for the experience that not every hotel is for
every guest. André – well done and
keep on going.
When thinking about the perfect
design hotel my fi rst thoughts are
of the EAST. You simply can’t do it
better. Starting from the transformation of the building, over to the fab
design by Jordan Mozer and the
unbeatable operators Anne-Marie,
Christoph and Marc. Very proud to
be with you.
The perfect hideaway away from
the party crowd. With the kids I stay
in the Casa and don’t have to care
about anything throughout the
whole day when staying in the resort. Within a few minutes they make
friends with all other kids and they
do their own thing. The adults are
going out to check the nightlife and
know their kids are in the best hands
with Doris and Maripy taking good
care of them. Many thanks to Mucki
and Christian for the last beautiful
years with you.
I think about this amazing place almost every day. I often think when I
have a problem to solve: How would
Anita and Artur Hahn deal with this?
Collectively, they have been one
of my outstanding mentors and I
am proud to have had the chance
to work over there for some years.
Thank you so much, and I use my experience gained from you daily in
business. I am more than happy to
return there yearly as a guest. Fantastic place, area and locals – that’s
real family business in the Champion’s League.
Cabana No. 2 – The Royal Cabana. I
know people who are real Frequent
Travellers, and they are living at 1A

I am happy to be far, far away from
those, only travelling sometimes,
but always when I go there and I’m
greeted by Denise and her wonderful staff in the CCR with a huge smile.
I feel well taken care of and the onward travel experience becomes
more calm for me. Many thanks and

PRAGUE
THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
In the historic town centre of Prague, just one
street way from the famous and historical Republic Square, the Baroque facade of the Designhotel
Elephant Prague adorns the street Na Florenci. The
Elephant is a place created to delight individualists from all over the world with its noble and yet
cosy atmosphere.
The area of the old town centre, which is characterised by numerous restaurants, pubs and shops, is
situated in the immediate vicinity. This district is the
stomping ground for art enthusiasts and urbane
metropolites with an insatiable curiosity and zest
for life.
It is a combination of the old and the new, an aesthetic interplay of contrasts, resulting in the highclass and sophisticated design of each of its 100
rooms.
Contrast is the keyword which continues to reflect
itself, even in the name of the hotel.
Similar to the historical city of Prague, with its deeply rooted culture, the hotel combines history and
modernity, presents a blend of energetic chic with
sublime relaxation but, above all, the Elephant
represents a wonderful location in the pulsating
heart of the old city centre, one of the most popular districts in Europe.
A modern jewel, steeped in a long history, in the
vibrant, historic centre of the old town. The Designhotel Elephant offers its guests individual experiences that evoke a contrast of the senses in the rooms,
where marble and wood blend harmoniously with
fine textiles. Likewise in the Designhotel Elephant
Prague, style and content merge to create a living
experience.
