Darlene Hernandez, RVT, has worked in the veterinary
industry since 1996. For the last nine years, Darlene has
been head RVT at mixed small and exotic animal veterinary
practices and is currently working for Webster Veterinary as
a veterinary practice trainer.

Curt Coffman, DVM, is a member of the American
Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS), a Fellow of the Academy
of Veterinary Dentistry (AVD) and a Diplomate of the
American Veterinary Dental College (DAVDC).
Dr. Glenn Brigden – Oral Surgery and Extraction
In this lecture, you’ll become familiar with common dental
terminology; better understand the importance of dental
marketing and client communication skills; become familiar
with dental charting and its importance; learn how to
perform a proper preliminary oral examination and its
importance; understand the steps required to perform a
proper dental prophy – instrumentation and technique;
become familiar with positioning and obtaining proper
dental radiographs; review the importance and process of
instrument care and sharpening; and better understand
Home Care and its importance.

You will become familiar with different oral surgery
instruments and equipment and using hand instruments
for simple extraction. You’ll also understand the steps
required for performing surgical extractions and practice
extraction techniques using dog cadaver heads.

You’ll understand the working parts of a dental X-ray
system; become familiar with positioning and obtaining
dental radiographs; become familiar with regional dental
nerve blocks; and review the landmarks for regional nerve
blocks using dog and cat skulls.
Understanding Your Anesthetic Delivery System and
Monitoring Devices
Technician Lab
Radiology, Prophy and Instrument Care
This lab covers complete dental care for technicians. The
lab features three stations: Radiology, where you’ll
participate in the demonstration of the basic angles and
positioning for exposing dental X-rays; Prophy, where you’ll
practice proper cleaning techniques on cadaver heads; and
Instrument Care, where you’ll participate in the
demonstration of basic cleaning and sharpening of
hand instruments.
