• provides an overview of the printer and its main functions
• contains a detailed description of the most important units
The XPRT 1 screen printer processes solder pastes (precious metal
pastes), resistor pastes, dielectric materials, silicones, conductive adhesives, lacquers and protective coatings to a degree of accuracy and quality that is absolutely essential for the production of sophisticated film
circuitry such as hybrids, multilayers, LCDs, components, chip carriers
and solar cells, and for SMD technology in general.
The frame is a welded steel structure. The printer has compact dimensions: 1500 mm x 1110 mm x 1480 mm.
All machines have two independent, pneumatically-driven squeegee
heads with a continuously regulated pressure accurate to within
±0.004 MPa.
Printing can be performed on flexible or rigid base materials such as
glass, ceramics, plastic or metal, with a material thickness of up to 10
mm.
The semi-automatic screen printer is operated with a keypad and other
operating elements.
A programmable logic controller (PLC) takes care of control of the machine. The supporting frame is made of rugged Itemprofil.
The printing table is finely adjustable in the X, Y and theta directions. In
conjunction with the manual optical positioning system (MOPS), it is perfectly possible to achieve printing results in the fine pitch range.
3.1.2
Printing sequence
The operator sets up the printing stencil in the machine by hand. Two
clamping cylinders fix the stencil in position in the guideway.
The operator adjusts the squeegee pressure with the pressure regulator.
The solder paste is applied to the stencil by hand. The squeegee parameters, such as squeegee speed, front and rear squeegee position, printing mode and separation speed, are entered in the main menu. The front
cover over the print area must remain closed during printing.

The operator places a PCB in the PCB holder on the printing table by
hand. The PCB clamping switch triggers the PCB clamping system, and
the PCB is fixed in place in the holder. The printing process is started with
the foot switch. The printing table moves in the X-direction from the loading position on the left to the printing position in the machine. The squeegee unit moves in the Y-direction from the rear towards the front. The
printing process proceeds according to the printing mode. When printing
is completed, the printing table moves out to the loading position. The operator removes the PCB from the printing table.

Pressure at which the squeegee is applied to the stencil.
PCB thickness
Input the thickness of the PCB.
Snap off
Distance between the bottom edge of the stencil and the top edge of the
PCB in mm. „On contact“ printing, i.e. with zero snap-off, is usual for
stencil printing (the stencil lies directly on the PCB).
With screen printing, the set snap-off distance must allow the screen to
detach from the print material immediately behind the printing squeegee.
If raised, the lifting table responds immediately to changes made to the
snap-off distance.
Separation way
Distance in mm by which the table lowers at separation speed.
Separation speed
Speed in mm/s at which the stencil is separated from the PCB after the
printing process. After the printing process, the table first lowers slowly so
that the paste can fully separate from the screen.

Note!
In the case of stencil printing, the squeegee touches the stencil. Both
squeegees function as printing squeegees and both have the same settings.
In the case of screen printing, one squeegee functions as the flooding
squeegee and the other as the printing squeegee. When adjusting the
flooding squeegee, use a piece of paper to ensure that there is just
enough clearance between the edge of the squeegee and the screen.
The printing squeegee must be adjusted according to the requirements of
the respective printing process. If the snap-off distance is changed, the
squeegee depth must also be corrected.

Generals
The functions of the individual components of the machine mostly depend on the quality of the cleaning and maintenance. Insufficient maintenance causes unnecessary wear and may result in a decrease in
production time because the machine is not in operation.
Maintenance must be performed in cycles of eight hours. However, shorter maintenance periods are required where room temperatures are high
and where the materials used cause a considerable build up of dust.
i
Note!
Check the pressure on the gas pressure dampers on the cover daily.
Cover must remain in position.

In order to prevent premature malfunctions due to damaged bearings, the
machine should never be cleaned with compressed air. Cleaning with
compressed air blows dirt particles into the bearings and guideways, resulting in
a higher degree of wear or in the destruction of bearings and guide surfaces.
The screen may be cleaned with compressed air only after it has been removed
from the machine.
WARNING!
EuroDok GmbH
Darmstädter Straße 67
D-64646 Heppenheim
When the machine is out of operation for long periods of time and in rooms with
a high level of air humidity, guideways and shafts must be protected against oxidation. Any film rust which has formed must be removed with a suitable polishing
agent before the machine is started up again. (Ball-type nipples are protected on
the outside against dirt by means of sealing lips. Oxidised shafts cause these
sealing lips to be destroyed).

Funktionsbeschreibung
Function
Descriptif du fonctionnement
Arbeitsweise:
• Eingangskreis geschlossen (z. B. NOTAUS-Taster nicht betätigt).
Die Sicherheitsausgänge 14 und 24 und
der Hilfsausgang Y32 leiten.
• Eingangskreis wird geöffnet (z. B. NOTAUS-Taster betätigt).
Die Sicherheitsausgänge 14 und 24 und
der Hilfsausgang Y32 sind gesperrt.
Operation:
Two microcontrollers evaluate the input
circuits and switch the outputs accordingly.
The microcontrollers monitor each other.
Output status
• Input circuit closed (e.g. E-STOP button is
not operated)
Safety outputs 14 and 24 and auxiliary
output Y32 are energised.
• Input circuit is open (e.g. E-STOP button
is operated).
Safety outputs 14 and 24 and auxiliary
output Y32 are de-energised.
Fonctionnement :
Functions:
• If there is a high signal (+24 VDC) at input
Y5 for at least 250 ms, output Y32
switches to diagnostic mode. It is
controlled via a driver that is available as
an accessory or that you can create
yourself. If input Y5 is open or low, Y32
will operate as an auxiliary output.
Operating modes:
• Single-channel operation: input wiring to
EN 60204, no redundancy in the input
circuit; earth faults in the pushbutton
circuit are detected.
• Dual-channel operation: redundant input
circuit; earth faults in the pushbutton
circuit are detected, with or without
detection of shorts between the
pushbutton contacts.
• Automatic reset: unit becomes active as
soon as the input circuit is closed.
• Monitored reset: unit is active when the
reset button is pressed and then released.
This prevents an automatic reset and
linking of the reset button.
• Shorts between contacts can be
detected by pulsing the input circuits. This
operating mode is detected automatically
on start-up.
• Start-up test prevents an automatic
restart when power is restored following a
voltage loss. The unit checks whether
closed safety gates are opened and
closed again when operating voltage is
applied.
• The number of safety contacts can be
increased by connecting a contact block
(e.g. PZE 9P) or external contactors.
Fonctions :

geschlossen).
Die Sicherheitsausgänge 14 und 24 und
der Hilfsausgang Y32 leiten.
• Eingangskreis: Öffner wird geschlossen
und Schließer geöffnet (z. B. Schutztür
geöffnet).
Die Sicherheitsausgänge 14 und 24 und
der Hilfsausgang Y32 sind gesperrt.
Operation
Two microcontrollers evaluate the input
circuits and switch the outputs accordingly.
The microcontrollers monitor each other.
Output status
• Input circuit: N/C open and N/O closed
(e.g. safety gate closed).
Safety outputs 14 and 24 and auxiliary
output Y32 are energised.
• Input circuit: N/C is closed and N/O is
opened (e.g. safety gate open).
Safety outputs 14 and 24 and auxiliary
output Y32 are de-energised.
Fonctionnement
Functions
• If there is a high signal (+24 VDC) at input
Y5 for at least 250 ms, output Y32
switches to diagnostic mode. It is
controlled via a driver that is available as
an accessory or that you can create
yourself. If input Y5 is open or low, Y32 will
operate as an auxiliary output.
• For logic links between several units, the
PNOZ e3.1p has one AND and one OR
input. The inputs have a time delay,
which is added in the case of an AND
connection.
Fonctions
Betriebsarten
• Zweikanaliger Betrieb: Erdschlüsse im
Eingangskreis und Querschlüsse zwischen
den Eingangskreiskontakten werden
erkannt.
• Automatischer Start: Gerät ist aktiv,
sobald der Eingangskreis geschlossen ist.
Operating modes
• Dual-channel operation: Earth faults in
the input circuit and shorts between the
input circuit contacts will be detected.
• Automatic reset: unit becomes active as
soon as the input circuit is closed.
• Monitored reset: unit is active when the
reset button is pressed and then released.
This prevents an automatic reset and
linking of the reset button.
• Shorts between contacts can be
detected by pulsing the input circuits. This
operating mode is detected automatically
on start-up.
-2-
A1
UB
• Start-up test prevents an automatic
restart when power is restored following a
voltage loss. The unit checks whether
closed safety gates are opened and closed
again when operating voltage is applied.
• The number of safety contacts can be
increased by connecting a contact block
(e.g. PZE X4.1P) or external contactors.

• Close the feedback loop by linking Y6-A1
or connecting the external contactors
between Y6 and A1.
Caution! Do not connect the
external contactors in series to the
reset circuit.
Both feedback loops are monitored. The
feedback loop must be closed a maximum
of 150 ms after the respective output has
switched off. In some circumstances,
recovery diodes on the contactors may
exceed this time. If this is the case, replace
the recovery diodes with a diode network
or remove them altogether.
Using the safety relay as a single unit
Please note:
If you are using the PNOZ e3.1p on its own,
make the OR connection (see "Linking the
units").
Linking the units
When linking several units, please note:
• The PNOZ e1p can only be linked from
version 3.0.
• Safety outputs which have loads
connected may also be linked to the safety
inputs of a max. of 4 PNOZelog units.
• Only safety outputs on Pilz PNOZelog
units may be AND/OR connected. The unit
with the lowest category determines the
category of the whole circuit in accordance
with EN 954-1.
• All linked units must be connected to the
same supply voltage.
AND/OR connection
Warning! The output signal from a
PNOZelog device at the OR input will
bridge the unit’s safety function. The
safety outputs will then energise,
irrespective of the status of the input
circuits.
UND-/ODER-Verknüpfung
Warnung! Ein High-Signal am
ODER-Eingang eines PNOZelogGeräts überbrückt dessen
Sicherheitsfunktion. Die
Sicherheitsausgänge leiten dann
unabhängig vom Zustand der
Eingangskreise.
couplage ET/OU. Le relais de plus petite
catégorie détermine la catégorie de
l'ensemble du circuit.
• Tous les appareils raccordés entre eux
doivent être reliés à la même source
d'alimentation.
Couplage ET/OU
Attention ! Le signal de sortie d'un
appareil PNOZelog sur l’entrée OU
ponte la fonction de sécurité de
l’appareil. Les sorties de sécurité
sont alors sous tension,
indépendamment de l’état des circuits
d’entrée.
