BAYARENA stadium
Leverkusen, Germany
Right in time for the 2009 / 2010 football
season, high-flying German football team Bayer
Leverkusen completely renovated and expanded
their stadium. Currently the top-ranked team in
the German national soccer federation, the club
had outgrown its old stadium the past few years
so that a larger arena was desperately needed.
Based on the structure of the original stadium in
Leverkusen, the new BayArena was constructed
in only 16 months and has become one of
Germany’s most modern football arenas with
a striking architectural design and a capacity of
over 30,000. The stadium now includes more
restaurants, VIP lounges and a connected hotel.
The stadium’s trademark roof structure covers all of
the stands and offers shelter for the fans from rain
and other inclement weather. The Makrolon roof,
in RAL 9002 light grey, has a very light and modern
appearance.
For the security and sound reinforcement
installation, Bosch Security Systems Germany
took responsibility for this project, installing the
fire alarms and data communication systems,
but subcontracting the installation of the 100-
volt technology and the low-impedance sound
system for the stadium to the Gelsenkirchen-based
company, Stage Systems.
The audio system is a combination of a complete
Yamaha CobraNet digital audio network and a
large HK AUDIO CADIS System. Sixteen hangs
of custom-configured 3-way-active CADIS CAD
208 2x8"/2x1" mid/high units and CAD 115 15"
subwoofers—produced in RAL 9002 light grey to
match the roof design—were installed for sound
reinforcement of the stands. Fourteen of the hangs
consist of ten CAD 208 and one CAD 115 Sub, while
two hangs comprise six CAD 208 with one CAD
115 Sub. To EQ the system, HK AUDIO FIRNET
controllers were used with dedicated FIR filters for
this stadium application. A total of
72 Yamaha PC Series amplifiers, a DME64N unit
and a 01V96VCM mixing console are employed to
power and control the system.
Baranovichi Ice Palace
Belarus
Chosen as the host country for the 2014 IIHF
Ice Hockey World Championships, Belarus is
currently in the process of preparing itself for this
large event, making major investments in new
ice arenas and infrastructure. The first project
in preparation for the World Cup is the new
Baranovichi Ice Palace. The sound reinforcement
system for this new building was supplied by the
Minsk-based distribution and installation company
MUZPROJECT, of the IMTH Group of Companies.
2
A total of 40 HK AUDIO CADIS CAD 208
installation line-array mid/high units reinforce the
arena’s main seating area. Another 15 ConTour
Series CT 108 cabinets are distributed throughout
the roof structure above the surface of the ice
itself to ensure intelligibility and clear sound in the
skating area. The smaller stands are covered by IL
15.2 cabinets from the HK AUDIO Installation Line.
Muzproject Import Manager Catherine Kadulina:
“HK AUDIO speakers were chosen for their high
intelligibility and great value for the money. The
CADIS installation array especially, with its IP 44
rating, offers precise coverage and great sound that
would normally be associated only with far more
expensive systems. The combination of quality and
cost was a big advantage for us in our tender offer.”
HK AUDIO Models used: CADIS CAD 208 mid/
high units, CT 108 8"-/1"-, IL 15.2 15"-/2"- full-range
cabinets.

Enfidha Airport
Tunisia
The new Enfidha Airport is located about 80
kilometers south of the country’s capital Tunis.
It is conveniently located to serve the tourist
regions of Yasmine Hammamet and Port Kantaoui
(near Hergla), Nabeul and Sousse, as well as the
towns of Tunis, Sfax, Bizerte and Kairouan. Just
opened in October 2009, the airport can currently
handle up to 7 million passengers per year and has
a design that mixes traditional Tunisian styles with
modern architecture.
The company responsible for the speech
reinforcement and background music system,
Acoustic Design and Broadcast of Tunis, selected
white HK AUDIO IL 82 8"/HF cabinets for this
installation. “High intelligibility for speech, good
sound for background music, and an easy-to-install
design were all important for this project. That’s
why we chose IL 82s,” comments Walid Arfi, Sales
Manager of ADB.
Petõfi Theater of Sopron
Hungary
The Petõfi Theater, located in the middle of the Old
City of Sopron, Hungary, about 60 km from Vienna,
has a rich tradition going back two centuries. Built
in turn-of-the-century Secession style with Jugendstil decor, this theater holds an audience of about
550 people. The program ranges all the way from
classical and modern drama to comedy and musicals. More and more modern programming has
been added in recent years, making it time to install
an equally modern sound reinforcement system.
The new system that was put in place by Hungarian
HK AUDIO partners IFK at the end of 2009 is made
up of six HK AUDIO CADIS CAD 208 line array
cabinets as the center cluster, and two each
ConTour Series CT 112 12"/1.4" mid/high units and
CT 118 Subwoofers as a left/right system.
Supplementing this main system are four IL 8.1
8"/1" cabinets from the HK AUDIO Installation
Line as sidefills, and four ConTour Series CT 108
loudspeaker cabinets as low-profile monitors. With
their high output levels and exceptional linearity
the CT 108s are especially well suited for speech
reinforcement in theaters. Thanks to their low
height, they do not interfere with the sightline of
the audience seated in the front rows.
Civic Center
Singen, Germany
The Civic Center (“Stadthalle”) of Singen, Germany,
not far from the Swiss/German border, has been a
stronghold of cultural life in southwest Germany for
several years now. It is known for the broad variety
of its entertainment programme, from drama to
musical theatre, from comedy to rock concerts.
As the productions in the Stadthalle have become
more and more technically demanding, a new
sound reinforcement system was installed at the
end of 2009.
The Main PA consists of sixteen HK AUDIO
COHEDRA COMPACT CDR 108 C line array mid/
high units on each side of the stage. A central
subwoofer cluster of six CDR 210 C is flown above
the centre of the stage. Whenever the musical
productions demand more bass, sixteen additional
CDR 210 units are available for ground-stacking in
front of the stage. Six ConTour Series CT 108 8"/1"
cabinets serve as nearfills for the first rows of the
audience, with another four CT 108s being used as
delays for the gallery in the back.
In order to achieve full flexibility when it comes to
low-profile onstage monitoring, distributed sound
reinforcement in the foyer, and so on, the Stadthalle
invested in an additional set of ten mobile CT 108s.
The PA system is controlled via five HK AUDIO
FIRNET controllers with FIR controlling and
Labgruppen FP 10000Q amplifiers. Signal
routing and scene selection for the various sound
reinforcement situations are carried out with a
YAMAHA DME 64 with complete AES-EBU signal
distribution up to the FIRNET controllers.
Thomas Obeth, Technical Director of the Stadthalle
in Singen, comments on the decision to purchase
HK AUDIO: “We carried out several in-house
comparisons of top brand PA systems, and we
came to the conclusion that the HK AUDIO System
is the best sound solution for this venue.
There was only one other competitor that offered
the same sound quality, but then the outstanding
value proposition of HK AUDIO made the decision
very easy.”

Kettal Showroom
Barcelona, Spain
Grupo Kettal is one of Europe’s leading
manufacturers of luxury outdoor garden furniture.
The company’s prestigious showroom in
Barcelona’s city centre was recently completely
remodeled and modernised. With over 2,000 m² of
floor space on two levels, a sound reinforcement
system was needed that would deliver a rich,
warm sound for background music and would
unobtrousively blend in with the architecture at the
same time. To accommodate these needs, Spanish
pro audio distributor ADAGIO PRO had its project
division design a 100V line system consisting of
thirty-two HK AUDIO IL 60 T cabinets in white,
powered by MC² T4-250 amplifiers. The installation
was carried out by install specialists from
GOAL S.L.
Victory Church
Pooraka SA, Australia
One of South Australia’s largest church
communities’s moved to a new facility in Pooraka
mid 2009. With over 1500 people attending services
every week the need for a large scale Line Array
System was paramount. Australian HK AUDIO
distributor CMI Music and Audio along Audio
Consultant Angelo Tullio from High End Audio
Research came together to design and install a
Cohedra Line Array System. Using 6 CDR 208
COHEDRA 2x8"/1.4" mid/High units a side with a
Centre Cluster of 4 x CDR-208’s not only gives the
church the high Sound Pressure Level required but
also fantastic coverage right from the front of the
stage to the back wall. “We talked to a large amount
of companies and installers it wasn’t a decision we
made lightly. After listening to some systems it was
clear to us that the HK COHEDRA was the way to go
not just because of its sound but also the support
and professionalism from CMI” says Ben Ottens
Victory Church’s Production Manager
For the low end a sub array design was incorporated
16 CDR-210’s in clusters of 2 were spread along
the front of the stage to create a tight even bottom
end response. The system is running off the HK
VX 2400 amplifiers and using the HK’s advanced
FIRNET controllers.
Grenchen Park Theatre
Grenchen, Swiss

The city of Grenchen is located in the Swiss canton
of Solothurn. The Park Theater located there is
known far and wide for its broad palette of events.
near-field loudspeakers were added to fill in
as needed. The system is driven by an
HK AUDIO DSM 2060 System Controller.
Since the sound system of Grenchen’s Park Theater
was installed several decades ago, it was time for
updating the facilities with a new system to provide
high quality sound to all 527 seats. The sound install
company AVA Events, worked with Swiss HK AUDIO
distributor SDS and with EASE simulation software
to equip the theatre with an HK AUDIO CADIS
system. A flown array consisting of four HK AUDIO
CAD 208 mid/high units (2x8"/1") and one CAD 115
Subwoofer (direct-loaded with one 15" speaker) was
installed on each side of the stage. Several small
Christian Kraska from Swiss HK AUDIO distribution
partner SDS Audio Factory comments: “Our
challenge was to work within a very limited budget
but come up with a sound system that would handle
the entire range of the Park Theater’s diverse
programme. The HK AUDIO CADIS system was the
perfect choice for this, since it offers extremely good
value for the money, and not only does it sound
great, but aesthetically it fits in seamlessly and
unobtrusively in this sort of venue.”

The new Installation Series by HK AUDIO
Excellent speech intelligibility, precise coverage
patterns, flexible mounting hardware and
unobtrusive design are key quality requirements
today for loudspeakers used in fixed installations.
The new VORTIS Series was specifically developed
to meet the needs of this market.
At the heart of the VORTIS Series is a newly
developed line of high-frequency horns. There are
3 different versions available:
•60° (hor.) x 40° (vert.)
•90° (hor.) x 55° (vert.)
•an asymmetric horn which vertically opens up
from 60° at the top to 90° at the bottom with a
constant vertical coverage of 55°.
These horns are combined with different housings
to extend the frequency range towards the low end.
Since the mouth of each horn has a square shape,
all horn versions can be rotated by 90° to achieve
an alternate coverage pattern. This effectively
creates a total of 36 alternative speaker models for
sound designers and architects to choose from to
fill any need. Additionally, all speakers are available
in any RAL color.
Due to the modular design of VORTIS, long delivery
terms are a thing of the past. All housings are kept
in the warehouse unfinished, and are fitted with the
horn and painted on demand. This system makes
it possible to have all speakers in all RAL colors
available within weeks.
VORTIS cabinet is fitted with both a Speakon NL 4
connector and double terminal connectors.
The design of the new VORTIS Series is elegantly
conservative, rendering it ideal for integration into
both modern and classical architecture. The metal
grille protecting the front of the cabinet is covered
with an opaque acoustic grill cloth, available, like
the cabinet housings, in all RAL colors.
The necessary speaker data for operation with
the FIRNET Controller or DSM 2060 are available
through www.hkaudio.com as well as polar data for
sound simulation systems (EASE, Ulysses,
CLF- files for CATT and others) and 3D CAD data.

The Vortis HF horn design
The development of the new VORTIS speakers
began with a series of new horns. The seminal
idea was that the quality of the HF horn plays a
critical role in determining important response
characteristics of a speaker system, such as
a precise coverage pattern, and high speech
intelligibility/STI values. The finished horns are
then combined with appropriate housings and
LF drivers to meet the various requirements of
different kinds of installation projects in terms of
frequency range and full-range capabilities.
In the VORTIS range, there are three different horn
geometries/radiation patterns. These three horns
are available in two different sizes for 1"- and 1.4"drivers.
Detailed radiation patterns of the different horn versions:
90 x 55
60 - 90 x 55 asymmetric
vertical
horizontal
60 x 40
The new design of the asymmetric horn is very interesting. Its coverage in the
horizontal plane changes from top to bottom. At the top edge of the horn,
it radiates with a narrower angle of 60°, whereas towards the bottom edge
it opens up to a broader angle of 90°. In a very low-budget or tight-spaced
installation project, this design makes for an excellent solution. This horn not
only covers the nearfield with its broad radiation pattern but it can also reach
medium distances with its narrower 60° pattern without creating unwanted
reflections on walls or ceiling.

This advantage becomes apparent in the following simulation charts, which
show the difference in sound level distribution between a symmetric horn and
the new asymmetric horn in a rectangular space:

Accessories
A variety of accessories are available for mounting
the VORTIS speakers. From simple eyebolts, to
standard U-brackets that allow you to mount
speakers either horizontally or vertically, to fully
adjustable brackets—you have every option
available to you for aiming the VORTIS speakers
directly at the area you want them to cover, while
minimizing unwanted reflections off walls and
ceilings.
Should you ever need to attach two or more
speakers to each other in a classic speaker cluster,
cluster plates are available for this purpose. Cluster
plates are mounted with U-brackets.
For extended low-frequency response the VORTIS
speakers can be combined with subwoofers from
the HK AUDIO Installation Line.

Cadis
the Compact ADaptive Installation System
The CAD 208 mid/high unit is loaded with two
8" midrange speakers, two 1" high-frequency
drivers with a concentric double horn and a
2.5-way crossover network. Since the horns have
a dispersion angle of 100° x 15°, it is possible to
achieve an excellent horizontal and vertical coverage
pattern with just a few units.
Sonically, the CAD 208 produces a high degree of
speech intelligibility down to the last syllable, yet in
spite of its compact size and low weight of barely
16.5 kg, it can also be used as a full-range system for
background music even without a subwoofer.
For the best possible audio performance and
coverage pattern, the CAD 208 mid/high unit
can also be driven in 3-way active mode with the
HK AUDIO FIRNET Controller.
CADIS, the new Installation Array from HK AUDIO,
was developed for installations in theatres, civic
and community centers, houses of worship,
gymnasiums, conference centers and large meeting
halls, as well as outdoor installation projects such
as stadiums and theme parks.
The subwoofer designed specifically for the
system, the passive CAD 115 Sub, is loaded with
a high-performance 15" neodymium loudspeaker
that makes a perfect low-end complement to the
CAD 208 mid/high units thanks to the quickness of
speaker’s response and its impulse accuracy. The
CAD 115 is also outfitted with rigging hardware and
can be situated either above the mid/high units
in a flown array, as a separate flown bass array, or
in ground-stack mode. For additional flexibility,
other existing subwoofer models in the HK AUDIO
Installation Line may be combined with the new
CADIS CAD 208.
With its unobtrusive yet upscale appearance, the
new CADIS system will blend into the interior
design of any given structure quite attractively.
Black and white models are both kept in stock as
standard offerings, and versions in any RAL color
can be special-ordered. The cabinets include several
features which make installation easy and quick:
the integral 3-point rigging system, the low cabinet
weight, and the choice of connection terminals.
The UV-resistant and weather-resistant construction
and the IP 44 classification make CADIS an
excellent choice for outdoor installations or other
high-humidity locations such as indoor swimming
pools.
Architectural specifications, simulation software
and matching EASE data are included with the
CADIS system.
A detailed product brochure is available either in
printed form or as a PDF that can be downloaded
from www.hkaudio.com.
The CADIS Wall- and Ceiling Mount System
In addition to the standard safety-approved mounting hardware, a new adjustable wall- and ceiling-mount system is available that offers a fast, efficient and elegant
solution in a variety of applications. With this system up to four CAD 208 mid/high units can be mounted and directed at the exact area desired.

Italian rental firm ADOGONTOUR adds ConTour Array to its HK AUDIO stock
A Dog On Tour Service, based in Cuneo, Italy, is a
pro audio rental company that specialises in live
rock, pop and jazz events. Owner Pier Francesco
Leardi officially founded his company in 2007, but
has been an HK AUDIO user since 1990.
Back then Leardi was working as a technician
in a recording studio when he bought his first
HK AUDIO sound reinforcement system—a system
that is still up and running today.
Knowing the reliability of his old system, Pier
Francesco Leardi had no qualms about investing
more heavily into additional active and passive
HK AUDIO systems once his own company had
finally been founded.
The HK AUDIO ConTour Array system acquired
by A Dog on Tour Service consists of four CTA 118
subwoofers and four CTA 208 mid/high units.
Pier Francesco Leardi: “I have always been very
satisfied with the quality of HK AUDIO products—
especially with my good old 1990 system that still
works perfectly and has never let me down. Since
we had a few larger events coming up in the second
half of 2009, investing in a ConTour Array made
perfect sense.”
The system has already been put to work at a round
of venues: the Mista’ Jazz Festival, the Tracce
Sonore Rock Contest for local bands, Open Season
in the Prato Nevoso skiing area, the Gridalo Forte
Singing Competition, and with artist Lou Dalfin,
who has made a name for himself advancing the
cause of Occitanic music. Leardi comments: “I’ve
already used the ConTour Array system in very
different situations that have placed very different
demands upon it, and everybody loves it. My
customers and I have all been extremely satisfied
with the sonic results. The system is flexible, has
plenty of power and headroom, and it’s easy to use.
Whether you fly it or ground-stack it, it simply does
a great job. I’m really a very satisfied HK AUDIO
User.”

COHEDRA, COHEDRA COMPACT, and the naked facts
On the large open field below city hall in the resort
town of Braunlage in the Oberharz area of Germany,
winter usually moves along at a peaceful pace.
Parents take their kids sledding down the gentle
slope, and others, most of them elderly, go for their
regular walk. But that all changed on Saturday,
February 20, 2010, when the place was jam-packed
with loud, screaming visitors anticipating a rather
quirky competition known as…naked sled racing.
More than 14,000 people showed up to watch this
very unusual winter sport, an event guaranteed to
give goose bumps.
Actually, the contestants weren’t completely
naked. All thirty participants, who were selected
by lottery from among hundreds of applicants
from Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, and
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, did wear short-shorts,
as well as a crash helmet, gloves, and boots. The
winner and new reigning Champion of Naked
Sledding was 26-year-old Christian Schmidt. But a
retiree received at least as much applause as the
winner. The 70-year-old man also ventured down the
slopes half-naked apart from the race.
Mario Möller, head of Ton- und Lichtfabrik (Sound
& Light Factory) of Blankenburg, served as the
technical director for this exciting production. “We
were faced with an interesting challenge: how to
provide high-quality sound evenly along the entire
length of a ski slope 89 meters long.” To meet this
challenge, two towers were built approximately
40 meters from the start of the race, one to the left
and one to the right of the course. Each of the two
towers had an array of eight COHEDRA CDR 208
mid/high units facing the start and another eight
facing the goal line, plus eight CDR 210 2 x 10"
subwoofers. That adds up to a total of 32 mid/high
units and 16 subwoofers being used to cover the
course! For the after-show party following the race,
another twelve COHEDRA COMPACT CDR 108 C
cabinets and eight CDR 210 subs were used. Möller
concluded, “We’ve been enthusiastic COHEDRA
and COHEDRA COMPACT users for years now.
Our experience at this event was the same. The
two systems were both brilliant, to the complete
satisfaction of the event planners and visitors.”

complete solution for your functions. Combine that
with the awesome sound of COHEDRA and this
puts them ahead of the competition”.
Joss Pack, owner of Pro Audio agrees adding,
“I have been working with Glory Sound Hire since
their inception into the sound hire industry and
watched them grow from strength to strength.
They are the perfect platform for COHEDRA in
South Africa and I know with their knowledge and
expertise they will take the brand to new heights and
set the bench mark for hiring companies across the
country. The HK AUDIO brand is growing rapidly in
our country, and this is proof that we are heading in
the right direction and people recognize the need
for a high end sound system.

COHEDRA COMPACT In Action
With Austrian Company NOISEGATE
East of Graz, Austria, in the town of Anger to be
precise, is located the company headquarters for
the sound and lighting company Noisegate. When
it comes to stage construction, good lighting and
first-rate sound, Noisegate is absolutely one of the
best sources in all of Steiermark. The company’s
areas of expertise extend from sporting events to
fashion shows to clubbing, balls, and concerts (both
indoors and out).
Ever since its founding in 2003, the company
Noisegate has been an HK AUDIO user for several
reasons. “For one thing, HK AUDIO distributor
eXact is right around the corner,” reports managing
director of Noisegate Markus Derler, “so we have
immediate access to them, and in eXact we have
a dependable partner. For another, all HK AUDIO
systems are compatible with one another, and
not only do they sound great, but they’re also a
remarkable value. Our go-to PA for FOH is our
COHEDRA COMPACT system. For stage monitoring
or smaller jobs we have a good supply of ConTour
Series cabinets, plus a few systems from the
HK AUDIO Portable Sound range.”
Recent events that Noisegate handled with their
HK AUDIO COHEDRA COMPACT System include
the CampusRock Festival 2009 (with Jennifer
Rostock, Kosheen and Sugarplum Fairy), the
Reinhard Fendrich Open Air Festival in Weiz, and
the gay and lesbian “Tuntenball” in Graz, Austria.
Markus Derler: “At a few of the events that we did
recently, several freelance sound engineers who
had not yet worked with COHEDRA COMPACT or
ConTour Series cabinets were quite surprised at the
fantastic sound coming from the system, and at
how precisely the system responds to EQ changes
made at the desk. This kind of recurring positive
feedback from our industry peers confirms for us
that we are indeed working with the right brand.”

Arranpaul Audio Ltd. invest in HK Audio ConTour Array
Based in Poulton, just outside Blackpool, UK,
Arranpaul Audio offer professional PA hire, sales
and servicing of audio, lighting and AV equipment.
Their hire operation covers a diverse base, catering
from hire of equipment to bands and conferences,
through to equipping and operating major touring
musicals and music festivals, with current and
recent clients including Roy Chubby Brown, Joe
Longthorne, The Chuckle Brothers, Russell Watson
and Elaine Paige.
After proving its credentials in Arranpaul’s
warehouse, various configurations of ConTour Array
were subjected to a number of real world trials,
including corporate events and theatre shows with
diverse audio requirements, demanding a system
capable of delivering first rate speech intelligibility,
combined with the ability to convey the dynamics of
a twelve piece band.
Satisfied with the results of the various tests,
Arranpaul Audio have consequently opted for
an active ConTour Array system, comprising six
CTA 208 mid/high units and six CTA 118 subs, which
has been put straight to work on a 40+ date tour
with The Chuckle Brothers.
One of the advantages of HK AUDIO’s ConTour
Series is flexibility: the ConTour Array can easily be
scaled down for small applications, or scaled up to
full flown line array configuration, and the CTA 118
active sub can power and control either the CTA 208
mid/high unit or any other enclosure of the ConTour
Series for maximum flexibility.
“We wanted the convenience of an active system,
and HK’s ConTour Array has proved the ideal
solution to fill the gap we had,” comments
Arranpaul’s Paul Rogerson, with co-director Arran
Culpan adding, “We were looking for a way to ease
logistics and trim transport requirements. With
ConTour Array, we can now use a 3.5 ton truck on
shows where we would have previously needed
a 7.5 ton truck, and have been very impressed
by how such a compact, light weight and easy to
use system can be so potent. Given the level of
performance we’ve been achieving, the price, which
was surprisingly cost-effective, was an unexpected
bonus too!”

ICON LTS gains ground worldwide
After the new ICON LTS system (see ProNews,
p. 12) made its official debut at PLASA in
September, 2009, the demo systems were rolled
out to HK AUDIO’s international distributors in
the final months of the year. Since then, ICON LTS
demo systems have become available for testing
in over 30 countries. And now, this intelligently
controlled power pack has already chalked up its
first successes far beyond Europe’s borders.
In Australia, South Africa, India or Mauritania,
ICON LTS is gaining ground. The latest news
reached us from the Philippines, where the PULSE
Club recently upgraded from its existing HK AUDIO
Projector systems to a new ICON LTS system. Club
owner Terence had this to say: “The Pulse Club
is known throughout the region for its good live
acts, its fantastic dance crew, the party atmosphere
in the club, and its outstanding sound. We have
been relying on HK AUDIO for years now and have
always been very satisfied with our PROJECTOR
systems. But the new ICON LTS system is simply in
another league. More power and headroom, perfect
stacking height, a state-of-the-art digital controller,
and powerful crystal-clear sound. The very first
time I heard the system, I just knew that we had to
upgrade the Pulse Club again.”
The photos show the Pulse Club in action with the
in-house Baby Shake Dancers — definitely worth
the trip!

ICON LTS
The modern approach to ground stacked sound reinforcement
The ICON LTS system was primarily designed for
ground-stacked operation. Many applications do
not need flown PA systems. Others simply don't
have the budget for it. The ICON LTS is an excellent
choice for those requirements, e.g., cover bands,
county fairs, smaller clubs, road shows, dance
events.
The IC 112 LA is a horn-driven mid/high-unit
(equipped with a 12" speaker plus a 1.4" HF driver
in coaxial arrangement) with a 60° x 40° CD horn
and an integrated DSP-based controller brain for the
entire ICON stack. The onboard speaker processor
is based on the well-established
HK AUDIO DSM2060 rack
controller. State-of-the-art Class D
power amps deliver the reach and
range to throw these signals across
great distances at remarkable sound
pressure levels.
The second component of the ICON
system is the IC 118 BA subwoofer
(1 x 18" bandpass design),
which is powered by an integral
2000-watts/4-Ohm amp module
and which delivers up to a maximum of 136 dB
(peak, measured in half space).
The onboard digital speaker processor of the IC 112
LA can be remotely controlled using Podware
software for the PC. This feature allows the
operator to monitor the system's key performance
parameters, such as level, power amp temperature,
speaker impedance, clipping or limiter activity.
Other adjustable parameters (eight-band parametric
EQ, two shelving filters, high- and low-pass, gain,
delay, phase und mute controls) enable users to
optimize system performance and adapt the system
to the venue. Once the perfect setup is made, the
settings can be saved to the PC, and readily recalled
whenever you're back in the same venue.
The Tilt Unit option permits the upper cabinet to
be angled downwards by 5, 10 or 15 degrees; as a
result, the mid/high unit can be aimed directly at
the audience area even when ground stacked.
