HISTORY &
HOLIDAY CHEER
The Christkindlmarket Chicago, inspired by the
original 1500’s Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg,
Germany, brings a cherished German and European
tradition with international flair and local charm to
Chicago. The vendors and vendor wares at the
Christkindlmarket Chicago reflect the high quality and
craftsmanship one finds at German Christmas
markets. The Christkindlmarket is the most authentic
and renowned outdoor winter holiday market in the
United States, and is a magical celebration of culture,
community, and holiday cheer.

SPECIAL THANKS
In 1996, the German American Chamber of
Commerce of the Midwest (GACC Midwest) was
seeking additional ways to promote bilateral trade
between the United States and Germany. The
subsidiary German American Services Inc. was
founded, bringing the concept of an authentic
German Christmas market to life. German,
European and local companies were invited to
participate in the first ever Christkindlmarket
Chicago, and the event became an instant success.
