Division Pigments & Additives Coating Business Colorants for the Paint Industry Farbmittel für die Lackindustrie Exactly your chemistry. Clariant - global leader in colorants for the paint industry Clariant is a global leader in the field of fine and specialty chemicals employing about 26,700 people and achieving annual sales of over SFr 8.5 billion. The company’s headquarters are located in Muttenz near Basle in Switzerland. Many years of experience lie behind Clariant’s expertise and innovativeness in providing customer-oriented solutions to problems in the field of colorants and additives. As a leading global manufacturer of colorants for paint applications the Pigments and Additives Division offers a wide range of highquality organic pigments, pigment preparations and dyes for Automotive OEM and refinish paints industrial paints powder coatings decorative paints. In addition we offer competent technical service with comprehensive advice on optimum solutions tailored to your needs. 3 Pigments, pigment preparations and dyes from Clariant Clariant supplies pigments and dyes. These ranges, supplemented by pigment preparations, special formulations and special grades, contain a wide variety of products for the paint and surface coatings industry as well as for other special fields. On the following pages we give a general overview of our colorants, indicating their possible uses in the main fields of application. Only the standard ranges of the pigments and dyes have been included here. It is not appropriate to treat the other special grades, preparations and special dyes in the same way because they appear in the brochure as separate ranges with details of their special fields of application. The symbols mean: ■ = highly recommended ● = recommended ❍ = limited suitability We would however point out that these recommendations are simply a general guide that is intended to make it easier to select suitable products from our range of colorants. Frequently required physical data of the pigments and additional technical details about the aqueous pigment preparations, such as pigment and solids content as well as type and amount of solvent, are given in the brochure so as to reduce the need for inquiries. Notes on diarylide pigments It has been known for some considerable time that thermal clearages may occur diarylide pigments when they are processed in polymers at temperatures above 200 °C. The following pigments supplied by Clariant are diarylide pigments: Pigment Yellow 12 Pigment Yellow 13 Pigment Yellow 14 Pigment Yellow 16 Pigment Yellow 17 Pigment Yellow 81 Pigment Yellow 83 Pigment Orange 13 Pigment Orange 34 All commercial products recommended for the paint industry that are based on the above diarylide pigments can be found in this brochure. These products can form traces of aromatic amines at processing temperatures above 200 °C in the presence of polymers (see safety data sheets; further information is also given in ETAD INFORMATION NOTICE No. 2 »Thermal Decomposition of Diarylide Pigments« – September 1990). Details of coloristic and fastness properties can be taken from the literature quoted and the following pattern cards: DP 5018 DP 5009 DP 5013 »Decorative paints, industrial paints, automotive paints« »Pigments for automotive paints« »Organic pigments for powder coatings« Our sales organizations and our technical service and development department will be pleased to give you further information at any time. 4 Many dyestuffs, pigments and chemicals are patented in numerous industrial countries ® = Trademark of Clariant registered in numerous countries * = Trademark registered in numerous countries and licensed to Clariant ® Contents Page 1 Standard ranges of organic pigments 6 1.1 1.2 1.2.1 1.3 1.3.1 1.4 1.5 1.5.1 1.5.2 Hostaperm pigments Novoperm pigments Novoperm pigments not standardized in paint Permanent pigments Permanent pigments not standardized in paint Hansa pigments Other pigments not standardized in paint PV Fast pigments Graphtol pigments 6 8 9 10 11 12 13 13 13 2 Numerical code and special grades 14 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 Numerical code for alteration of standards and special grades TS range Opaque pigments for lead-free pigmentations Transparent pigments for effect paints 14 14 15 15 3 Pigment preparations 16 3.1 3.1.1 3.1.2 3.2 3.3 3.3.1 3.3.2 Colanyl Colanyl 100 Colanyl 500 Hostatint Sandosperse Sandosperse A Sandosperse E 16 16 18 20 22 22 24 4 Dyes 26 4.1 4.2 Savinyl dyes Savisol liquid dyes 26 27 5 Overview arranged by Colour Index data (generic name) 28 5.1 5.2 Pigments/pigment preparations Dyes 28 35 6 Addresses 36 5 1 Standard ranges of organic pigments 1.1 Hostaperm®* pigments Literature: Pattern card DP 7068 “Hostaperm organic pigments for the paint industry”. If only the generic name but not the C.I. No. is given, the product was published without details of its constitution. We would point out that identical generic names simply indicate identical chemical composition. The application properties of colorants are however influenced to a greater or lesser extent not only by their chemical composition but also by numerous other factors such as particle size distribution, crystallinity, surface treatment, impurities etc. For this reason products having identical compositions and identical generic names may differ completely in their application properties. Ist nur der generic name angegeben, nicht aber die C.I.-No., so bedeutet das, daß dieses Produkt ohne Angabe der Konstitution veröffentlicht wurde. Colour Index Generic name No. Standardsortimente Pigmente Pigment Yellow 1 11680 Hansa-Gelb G 02 Pigment Yellow 3 11710 Wir weisen darauf hin, daß gleiche generic names lediglich gleiche chemische Zusammensetzung bedeuten.
