s w e N e f odrof Wo Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence in Education 1995-2015 3 December 2015 Issue 39/40 Dear Families Monday’s Year 6 Graduation Dinner was very successful. Families and staff members were very proud of the mature way students conducted themselves on the night and throughout the year. In the Valedictory Speeches students acknowledged the success of our Tribes Agreements, the Woodroffe Way and our high expectations which have prepared them well for middle school and beyond. However, we all know that schools and parents must work together in honest partnership to be able to achieve students’ maximum potential. I believe with 2015 Year 6 students we have achieved this and as a result have been a great group. They have tried their best to achieve academically and socially the have been very supportive of each other, congratulations! Today we have our Early Childhood Disco (Transition - Year 2) during the school day and the Primary Disco (Year 3 - 7) this evening. Please do not let your children arrive before 6:50pm and pick them up promptly at 8:30pm. On Friday children will bring home their Semester 2 Reports. Pease contact class teachers early next week for any queries you may have. As you know our school’s focus is on Literacy and Numeracy so when children complain of being bored during the holidays, as they invariably do, it is a good opportunity to encourage reading books and discussing the story and characters together. Revising time, money and numbers can also me made fun and is a great way to maintain children’s learning. Last night Preschool held their Christmas concert. It was a delight to see so many supportive and proud families in attendance. We all enjoyed the children’s Christmas songs and dancing. We look forward to these young students joining us next year in mainstream. They will be part of the Early Achievement Centre and will still play in their familiar Preschool ground for the first three terms. Territory Children would like to remind parents that enrolments are now being taken for 2016. If you are the parent of a Transition child places are limited. NT COGSO will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on Saturday 5 December from 2.00pm to 3.15pm at Airport Rydges Hotel and all parents and carers are encouraged to attend. ThinkUKnow Australia is a cyber safety education program that educates parents, carers and teachers how young people are using technology, the challenges they may face online, and how to help them overcome them in a safe and ethical way. ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia. The presentation will be delivered by a law enforcement member and an industry volunteer. It will cover issues relating to young peoples’ privacy and security online, their relationships with other users and their online reputation. It provides insight into the devices they are using, popular websites, apps and social networking sites. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the online environment, and how you can help children to be safe and responsible users of technology.
