The great master of Baroque music Johann Sebastian Bach worked as Court Music Director of Prince Leopold of AnhaltKöthen from 1717 until 1723. In these very creative years, he composed such masterly works like the six Brandenburg Concertos and the "WellTempered Clavier (Part 1)" as well as a number of violin concertos and the "French" and "English Suites". Festivals in honour of Bach By the annually alternating Köthen Bach Days, which have already acquired a very good reputation in the international music world, and the National Bach Competition for young piano players, Köthen celebrates the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach. Köthen's reputation as a Bach city is also growing far beyond the national borders by the socalled Köthen Autumn organized by Freundes- und Förderkreis Bach-Gedenkstätte im Schloss Köthen e.V. Bach Monument In commemoration of Johann Sebastian Bach, the monument created by the sculptor Heinrich Pohlmann from Berlin was inaugurated in the roads Wallstraße/Schulstraße in 1885. In the Bach Year 2000, the square was redesigned, and the road Schulstraße, connecting the Churcg of St. Jakob and the market square with the Bach Monument, was refurbished in the year 2009. Two Dwelling Houses of Bach Schalaunische Straße 44 and Wallstraße 25/26 While the first Bach House was replaced by a department store built in 1969, the Bach House in the Baroque quarter directly behind the Bach Monument Bach Dinner Bach Monument has been preserved; today it is part of the Nursing Home St. Elisabeth. Eating as in Bach's Times Who would not like to dive in history and experience how life really felt, for example in Baroque times? And there has rarely been such a good opportunity for it but by attending the Bach Dinner. For kindly enough, the menu was meticulously recorded and has survived the times. To get into the mood for the evening, the Court Music Director personally welcomes his guests in the castle, and guides them through his old place of work. And as a matter of course, he accompanies the guests to the Brewery restaurant afterwards. The stylish ambience of the building provides the worthy setting for the dinner. Between clear broth of pike-perch, boeuf à la mode, roast veal and a cream puff with lemon cream, you are entertained by stories and anecdotes about eating in 5 Culture, Tourism and Sights ON THE TRAILS OF HOMOEOPATHY … ... follow the homoeopathy path from the "Spital" building with the European Library for Homoeopathy to the homoeopathic resting place at the Magdeburg Tower to the Lutze Clinic and the Homoeopathy Exhibition in the Castle.
