What’s the connection between funk & soul and pop & rock?
Correct – it’s Kärntner Straße on New Year’s Eve. Here, you’ll
find two DJ areas that will make the longest night of the year fly by
with disco beats and nice sounds. (2 p.m. to 2 a.m.)

Cosa lega la musica funk e soul alla musica pop e rock? La
risposta giusta è: la Kärntner Straße nella notte di San Silvestro.
Qui infatti vengono allestite due aree DJ per accorciare la notte più
lunga dell’anno con ritmi da discoteca e musica ballabile (dalle 14:00
alle 2:00).
Conductor for an evening
As part of the New Year’s Trail, the Haus der Musik is offering free
admission from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Would you like
to conduct the orchestra yourself, just for once? It’s possible in the Haus
der Musik, thanks to the “Virtual Conductor”. Visitors stand in front of a
large video screen and watch the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
in the Golden Room of the Wiener Musikverein, where they can also
conduct works from the New Year’s Concert, such as the Blue Danube
Waltz. In addition, visitors can find out all about the history of the New
Year’s Concert at the Vienna Philharmonic Museum. (2 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
Direttore d’orchestra per una notte
La Haus der Musik partecipa al Percorso di San Silvestro offrendo
per questa speciale occasione l’ingresso libero dalle 14:00 alle
22:00. Vi piacerebbe provare a dirigere un’orchestra? Con il „direttore
d’orchestra virtuale“ nella Casa della Musica ne avrete la possibilità.
Vi basterà mettervi davanti alla grande proiezione video della celebre
Orchestra Filarmonica di Vienna nella Sala Dorata del Musikverein di
Vienna e assumere il ruolo di direttore d’orchestra. Potrete dirigere varie opere, fra cui il Concerto di Capodanno e il valzer Sul Bel Danubio
Blu. Inoltre, nel Museo dell’Orchestra Filarmonica di Vienna potrete

Charts create the right mood for the whole family until 7.30 p.m.
Greg Bannis –ex-frontman of the cult band “Hot Chocolate” – warms
the hearts of party-goers from 8 p.m. onwards before the rock band
“Wiener Wahnsinn”, with a perfect mix of Austrian pop and international classics, takes center at the New Year’s Eve events from 10
p.m. onwards. The partying continues with Radio Arabella DJ Roman
Gerner and the biggest hits of all time. (2 p.m. to 2 a.m.)

Lo spettacolo karaoke dell’emittente radiofonica Arabella e i pezzi
delle sue hit parade del 2012 creano un’atmosfera adatta per
tutta la famiglia a partire dalle 19.30. A seguire, Greg Bannis - ex
frontman della band di culto „Hot Chocolate“ - scalderà gli ospiti nella
sera di San Silvestro dalle ore 20:00, prima che la rockband “Wiener

Als Teil des Silvesterpfades bietet das Haus der Musik an diesem Tag
freien Eintritt von 14:00 bis 22:00 Uhr. Einmal ein Orchester selber
dirigieren? Mit dem „Virtuellen Dirigenten“ wird dies im Haus der Musik
möglich. Die BesucherInnen stehen vor einer großen Videoprojektion
und sehen das berühmte Orchester der Wiener Philharmoniker im
Goldenen Saal des Wiener Musikvereins, wo sie auch Werke des
Neujahrskonzertes, wie den Donau-Walzer dirigieren können. Im Museum der Wiener Philharmoniker lässt sich außerdem die Geschichte
des Neujahrskonzertes entdecken. (14:00 bis 22:00)
„Die Fledermaus“ live aus der
Wiener Staatsoper
Ein absolutes Silvester-Highlight in Wien ist jährlich die Live-Übertragung von Johann Strauß‘ „Die Fledermaus“ aus der Wiener Staatsoper. Am Herbert von Karajan-Platz kommen MusikliebhaberInnen
am letzten Tag des Jahres ab 14:00 Uhr in den Genuss eines Potpourris der schönsten Opern- und Ballettszenen sowie ab 19:00 Uhr
der traumhaften Operette von Johann Strauß‘, denn per Live-Übertragung, LED Screen und Bestuhlung können alle Silvestergäste die
Aufführung unter dem Dirigenten Stefan Soltesz und in der Regie von
Otto Schenk am Platz vor der Oper genießen - und das bei freiem
Eintritt. (14:00 bis 02:00, 19:00 bis 22.30 „Die Fledermaus“). Übrigens:
Ab dem 27. Dezember überträgt die Wiener Staatsoper Vorstellungen
von „Der Nussknacker“, „Ariadne auf Naxos“ und „Die Zauberflöte“ live
auf den Herbert von Karajan-Platz.

An awesome New Year’s highlight in Vienna every year is the
live transmission of “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauß from the
Vienna State Opera. On New Year’s Eve at Herbert von Karajan-Platz
from 2 p.m. onwards music lovers will be able to enjoy a potpourri of
the most beautiful opera and ballet scenes, followed by the delightful
operetta by Johann Strauß from 7 p.m. onwards, because all New
Year’s guests will be able to follow a live transmission on LED screen
of the performance conducted by Stefan Soltesz and staged by Otto
Schenk, seated on chairs in the square outside the opera house – with
free admission. (2 p.m. to 2 a.m., 7 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. “Die Fledermaus”). By the way: From 27 December the Vienna State Opera will
transmit performances of “The Nutcracker Suite”, “Ariadne auf Naxos”

“Il Pipistrello“ dal vivo davanti all’Opera di Stato di Vienna
Un evento attesissimo ogni anno per la notte di Capodanno a
Vienna è la trasmissione dal vivo dall’Opera di Stato di Vienna
dell’operetta „Il pipistrello” di Johann Strauß. In Herbert von KarajanPlatz l’ultimo giorno dell’anno, dalle ore 14:00, gli amanti della musica avranno il privilegio di godersi un potpourri delle più belle scene
dell’opera e del balletto e di assistere a partire dalle 19:00 alla straordinaria rappresentazione della famosa operetta di Johann Strauss diretta dal maestro Stefan Soltesz con la messa in scena di Otto Schenk,
trasmessa dal vivo su schermi a LED nella piazza antistante l’Opera,
appositamente attrezzata con sedie. L’ingresso è libero. (dalle 14:00
alle 02:00, dalle 19:00 alle 22.30 “Il pipistrello“). Tra l’altro, dal 27
dicembre l’Opera di Stato di Vienna trasmette dal vivo in Herbert von
Karajan-Platz un tris di opere amatissime: “Lo schiaccianoci“, “Arianna
a Nasso“ e “Il flauto magico“.
Das Silvesterpfadfeuerwerk
Um Mitternacht, pünktlich zum Jahreswechsel, ist man am Heldenplatz perfekt aufgehoben. Glänzend und festlich geht es hier ins Neue
Jahr: Das Silvesterpfadfeuerwerk tanzt über der Wiener Innenstadt um
Mitternacht und begrüßt glanzvoll das Jahr 2013. (Eine kurzfristige
Absage aufgrund ungünstiger Wetterlage ist möglich.) (0:00 bis 0:15)
Besonderes Highlight am Heldenplatz ist dieses Jahr der Vertibiker,
der auf einem 40 Meter langen Seil hochfährt und damit den Countdown in das Radjahr 2013 einläutet.

I fuochi d’artificio del percorso di San Silvestro
Prima dello scoccare della mezzanotte, in tempo per salutare
l’Anno Nuovo, non c’è niente di meglio che riunirsi nella Heldenplatz. Qui i festeggiamenti di Capodanno sono davvero scoppiettanti:
alla mezzanotte lo spettacolo pirotecnico del percorso di San Silvestro
illuminerà il cielo sopra il centro storico di Vienna per salutare l’arrivo
del 2013 (in caso di condizioni atmosferiche avverse è possibile una
variazione di programma con breve preavviso) (dalle 0:00 alle 0:15).
Quest’anno è prevista un’ulteriore attrazione sulla Heldenplatz: il Vertibiker, l’acrobata in bicicletta che salirà su una corda lunga 40 metri
per dare il via al conto alla rovescia per l’anno della bicicletta 2013.
Non solo sulla Heldenplatz, ma persino negli ambienti sfarzosi delle
sale di rappresentanza dell’ex residenza imperiale ci si potrà gettare
nelle danze a tempo di valzer partecipando a “Le Grand Bal” nella

Michael Jackson auf den Riesenradplatz bringen. Im Anschluss folgt
die schwungvolle Dixieland- & Streetband, sowie die Vollblutmusiker
Sappalot. Der feierliche Höhepunkt des Abends ist mit Sicherheit das
glanzvolle musiksynchrone Feuerwerk um Mitternacht über den Dächern Wiens. (20:00 bis 2:00)

The New Year’s Trail (Silvesterpfad) is a unique festival held in
Vienna to welcome in the New Year. For many years, hundreds
of thousands of Viennese citizens and tourists from all over the world
have been unable to resist the magic of Vienna’s New Year’s Trail – and
this year will be no exception.
The 23rd New Year’s Trail will again provide a varied program
of music and entertainment, ranging from waltzes and
operetta to rock and folk music, presented on stage in a number of
locations. Over 200 artistic performers and a wide variety of cuisine will
offer an unforgettable transition to 2013 in beautiful Vienna.
Whether you prefer to ring in the New Year with classical music at Stephansplatz, the festive fireworks display at Heldenplatz, or join in on
New Year’s Day morning for the transmission of the New Year’s Concert

Con il Silvesterpfad ovvero il Percorso di San Silvestro, Vienna
offre una festa unica al mondo per la notte di Capodanno. Centinaia di migliaia di cittadini viennesi e di turisti di ogni parte del mondo

Silvestro. Lo stesso accadrà anche quest’anno.

At Rathausplatz the New Year is celebrated with joyful abandon
from 2 p.m. onwards with the Radio Wien DJ. Feel electrified by
the “Kings & Queens”, enjoy roaring rock'n' roll with the “Radio Wien
Band” or upbeat 60s and 70s-style folk/rock/soul from the “Free Men
Singers” – the audience at Rathausplatz can expect an atmospheric, eclectic music program. In between, the Radio Wien DJ and the
band Topmixx provide rousing interludes on the last day of the year.

On New Year’s Day, the Silvester Market at Rathausplatz
not only invites visitors to enjoy the first day of the New Year,
but also to watch the live transmission of the New Year’s

Con il rituale annuncio “Alles Walzer” (“Valzer per tutti”), iniziano alle 14:00 gli attesissimi corsi di valzer delle scuole di ballo
viennesi, ai quali potrà partecipare chiunque desideri imparare a danzare il valzer o perfezionare la propria tecnica. Per preparare gli animi
a quella che sarà l’ultima sera dell’anno, dalle 19:00 echeggeranno in
Piazza Santo Stefano (Stephansplatz) le più famose canzoni viennesi
e celebri arie d’operetta, quindi sarà di scena l’Ensemble Kaiserwalzer,
che trascinerà il pubblico nel mondo del musical. A loro volta i Kaiserjäger (cacciatori imperiali), nelle loro uniformi storiche, intratterranno
il pubblico con i pezzi forti della musica bandistica.
Sfumate le note del valzer Sul Bel Danubio blu, intorno alla mezzanotte, si potrà continuare a ballare con l’orchestra femminile Rondo

In der Silvesternacht vom 31.12.2012 auf 1.1.2013 werden alle U-Bahn-Linien und
viele Straßenbahn- und Autobuslinien im Anschluss an den Tagesverkehr die
ganze Nacht bis zum Betriebsbeginn des 1.1.2013 verkehren.
Folgende U-Bahn-, Straßenbahn- und Autobuslinien werden in der Nacht vom
31. Dezember auf den 1. Jänner in Betrieb sein:
U1, U2, U3, U4 und U6
D, 1, 2, 6, 18, 25, 26, 31, 38, 41, 43, 46, 49, 58, 60, 62, 67 und 71
7A, 23A, 26A, 29A, 35A, 66A, 68A, 73A
Die Intervalle des Silvesternachtverkehrs betragen in der Regel 15 Minuten.
Viele Linien – wie zum Beispiel U-Bahn-Linien, aber auch eine ganze Reihe stark
frequentierter Straßenbahnlinien – werden allerdings auch in kürzeren Intervallen
unterwegs sein. Ab ca 22.00 Uhr halten die Linien U1 und U3 nicht in der Station
Stephansplatz. Die Linie 73A verkehrt alle 30 Minuten.
Zusätzlich zu diesem seit vielen Jahren gut angenommenen Angebot
verkehren die Nacht-ASTAX-Linien N17, N23, N61 und N90, um die an diesen
Linien gelegenen Wohngebiete zu erschließen.
