Customer proximity is a decisive competitive factor for any
business. Mühldorf County is located within the scenic Munich metropolitan area, making it part of a high-tech region offering 25,000
industrial jobs and placing it close to Bavaria’s capital.
Mühldorf County has direct connections to Munich – complete with
its modern trade fair centre, an international airport, noted research
facilities and national media operations. In other words, Mühldorf
County is ideally situated for serving the whole of the European market – a strong argument in our favour.
Mühldorf County is a traffic hub in various respects. Bavaria’s two
most important traffic arteries – the A94 autobahn/B12 highway and
the B15 highway – cross within its boundaries, linking north to south
and west to east.
Eight railway lines intersect at Mühldorf junction, providing direct
links to Munich, Rosenheim, Traunstein, Landshut, Passau and Salzburg. Mühldorf is also an important station on the Trans-European
Transport Network (TEN), the international rail route linking Paris,
Vienna and Budapest, and has lines running to the Adriatic ports
in Italy and Slovenia. Goods traffic benefits accordingly, as shown
by the 2,5 million tons of goods that Mühldorf County´s companies
transport by rail every year ... and counting.
“Many international groups and mid-sized companies use our location in Ramsau
as a major transhipment hub. Not only do we handle our customers’ logistics and

NETWORKS
How do business enterprises manage these days without the
possibility to network or cooperate with companies operating in the same value chain? This need not be a problem in
Mühldorf County , where inter-company networks involving southeast Bavaria as a whole have emerged in a variety of branches.
One of these networks concerns Bavaria‘s chemical industry cluster, complete with such noted industrial enterprises as Wacker
Chemie, Siltronic, Borealis, the OMV petrol refinery and BASF
Construction Chemicals.
Along with the Rosenheim, Traunstein and Berchtesgadener Land
areas, Mühldorf County is also a key part of the Bavarian food
branch, and benefits from its proximity to Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences and its food and life sciences research
facilities.
“Key personalities from the political, economic and social spheres are involved in developing the potential of Mühldorf County and shaping the region‘s future. In an effort to
strengthen our assets in comparison to other European regions, we are pursuing projects
concerned with our infrastructure, business and education as well as tourism and nature.
The rewards we are reaping will also benefit incoming businesses.”
Ingrid Obermeier-Osl, Holzwerk Obermeier GmbH, Schwindegg
Cooperative networks for greater success
Byodo, Ceralia and Barnhouse, three Mühldorf-based companies involved in the production of organic and high-quality food
products, work together in procurement, marketing and logistics
to their mutual advantage – a convincing demonstration of the
advantages of horizontal cooperation.
The University of Applied Sciences in nearby Rosenheim is a focal
point of the Bavarian forestry and wood products cluster. Companies in Mühldorf County involved in developing new products
benefit strongly not only from the university’s noted Department
of Wood Technology but also its Department of Plastics Technology, Production Technology, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Interesting developments in renewable energy also await Mühldorf County, home to highly-innovative companies working in this
promising branch of technology. A geothermic installation – a
project of model character for Bavaria as a whole – is currently in
development in Waldkraiburg.

SKILLED LABOUR FORCE
Companies operating in Mühldorf County think highly of the
reliability and motivation of their workers. Like their employees,
they are aware that success is the sum of the contributions
made by each single individual.
Their employees come with the type of qualifications that enable
them to make a valuable contribution to the productivity and competitiveness of the companies they work for.
Accordingly, education and the training of occupational skills hold a
prominent place in our political agenda, as demonstrated by one of
our vocational training schools, which has earned a Bavarian-wide
award for the quality of its work. A local trade corporation educational centre and an academy run by the Chamber of Industry and
Commerce provide seminars and courses for workers eager to refresh their knowledge and update their skills.

campuses in Garching, Weihenstephan, Munich and at south-east
Bavarian universities, enabling companies within its borders to
benefit from the latest findings in many fields of research.
Your company, too, can enjoy the benefits of this network.
By the way ... it was in Mühldorf County in 1796 that the Bavarian
statesman Montgelas formulated the fundamental aspects of his
administrative reforms, which went on to help shape Bavaria as we
know it today.
“As an internationally active manufacturer of technically sophisticated products, we need
a highly-qualified and motivated workforce if we are to remain successful in markets such
as telecommunications and medical engineering. We are able to find such employees in
Mühldorf County, and have no difficulty keeping them either, thanks to the amenities that
the district is able to offer.”
Dr.-Ing. Kurt Woelfl, Managing Director, ODU Otto Dunkel GmbH, Mühldorf a. Inn

A beautiful corner of Bavaria
21
Upper Bavaria is a region with many facets. Mühldorf County
offers an unusual one – a personable Bavarian world that has lost
none of its original charm.
Mühldorf County is part of the Upper Bavaria region and borders
on the counties of Landshut and Rottal-Inn to the north, Ebersberg
and Erding to the west, Rosenheim and Traunstein to the south and
Altötting to the east.
The Alpine river Inn crosses the entire county from west to east in
wide, lazy loops. Quiet oxbow lakes, precipitous riverbanks and
extensive river terraces characterise the river on its progress past
alluvial woodlands, fertile fields and lush meadows.
Mühldorf County’s population increases nearly 2 percent each year,
and shows every sign of continuing to grow. Between now and 2020,
the county’s communities closest to the greater Munich area will be
experiencing particularly strong growth of 13 percent or more.
This development is reflected by our tourist figures, which indicate a
12 percent increase in visitors in 2002 as compared to 0.2 percent for
Bavaria as a whole.
“Mühldorf County is becoming more and more popular, attracting an increasing number of
companies because of its proximity to the Munich metropolitan region. And many young
families in search of nature and space for their children are also making their way out here.
On a cultural level, things are no longer a one-way-street in the direction of Munich, with
people from the capital often now attending our high-calibre events.”
