Turkeys
All about turkeys
Male turkeys are called gobblers or
tom turkeys. They are bigger and more
colourful than the hens.
Tom turkeys can fan out their tails.
Their feathers are dark: black, brown,
and brown with white stripes.
Tom turkeys have a red snood hanging
across their beak and a red wattle under
their beak.
A tom turkey makes a “gobble” sound
to talk to a hen. For other tom turkeys
this sound then means: “Stay away.

Thanksgiving games
Duck, Duck, Turkey!
Eine amerikanische Variante des Spiels “Duck, Duck, Goose!” (Der Plumpssack geht
um): Die Kinder sitzen im Stuhlkreis. Ein Kind ist „IT”, geht außen um den Kreis herum
und tippt dabei jedem Kind auf den Kopf (oder auf die Schulter). Bei jedem Tippen sagt
IT: “Duck, Duck, Duck, Duck, …”. Sagt IT aber “Turkey”, muss dieser Spieler aufstehen
und IT jagen. IT versucht, schell den leeren Stuhl zu erreichen. Wenn es dem “Turkey”
gelingt IT zu fangen, darf er/sie sich wieder hinsetzen – wenn nicht, ist er/sie IT.
