The city's population was 222,556 in 2010 and its elev ation is 1035 m. It is also known as the "City of Roses". The main economic activ ities of Isparta are the production of rose water and handmade carpets. Tourism, both local and increasingly international due to "biblical tourism", is also becoming an important source of rev enue for the city. Süleyman Demirel Univ ersity has introduced thousands of youths from v arious backgrounds to the city's mostly conserv ativ e fabric in the recent years. The city's football team, Ispartaspor, currently plays in Group 7 of the Turkish Regional Amateur League. Some historical buildings and houses remain from the 19th century, but are rare compared to the number of modern buildings. There are sev eral important mosques in Isparta, including the pre-Ottoman Hızır Bey Mosque (c. 1325), the Kutlubey or Ulu (Grand) Mosque (1429, with major restorations made in the 19th century) and Hacı Abdi Mosque (1569). The city also boasts a mosque by the Ottoman Royal Architect Mimar Sinan - the 16th century's Firdev s Pasa mosque. This mosque is also known as Mimar Sinan Mosque. There are sev eral remains of Greek Orthodox churches from the Byzantine and Ottoman periods (14th-19th century). The Byzantine fortress is mostly in ruins. The city lies close to a fault line and is thus prone to v iolent earthquakes. Isparta is well-connected to other parts of Turkey v ia roads. Antalya lies 130 km to the south and Eskişehir is 350 km to the north. 2 Süleyman Demirel University Süleyman Demirel Univ ersity (SDU) is a public univ ersity located in I sparta, Turkey. Established in 1992, the univ ersity, w ith around 80.000 students, is the second, largest academic institution in Turkey. SDU is know n for its programs in agricultural research, medicine, engineering, and business sciences. The univ ersity is approv ed by the Erasmus programme for participation and funding. SDU is a member of European Univ ersity Association. Now we will introduce other ways to come here. Also we will share all the phone numbers you need. YOUR HOME COUNTRY - İSTANBUL İSTANBUL-ISPARTA (CONNECTION FLIGHT) There is one flight per day between Istanbul and Isparta, which is operated by Turkish Airlanes around 9-9:30 am. Isparta Süleyman Demirel Airport is located 30 KM out of the city center, however you will be able to get a free coach bus to the center. Important: There are two airports in Istanbul. The flight that you can use from Istanbul to Isparta is departing from ‘’Istanbul Atatürk Airport’’ (Code: AHL). If you use the other airport for going to Istanbul, which is called Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (code: SAW ), please inform us and we will tell you how to get to Atatürk Airport from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport. ISTANBUL-ISPARTA (BY BUS) If you would like to come to Isparta from Istanbul by bus, there are many bus companies going 24 hours a day. It takes approximately 10 hours. Costs between (one way) 50 -75 TL ● ● You should go to the main bus station, Esenler. If you are coming to Istanbul Atatürk Airport first, you can use to Metro Line 1 from Airport to Bus Station ‘’Otogar’’. Then just find a travel agency which is going directly to Isparta. Please contact the participant responsibles or main organisers, they can help you with booking your bus ticket. A few of the bus companies that have a route to Isparta include Ulusoy Turizm, Pamukkale Turizm, Isparta Petrol Turizm, Kamil Koç Turizm & Metro Turizm. YOUR HOME COUNTRY - ANTALYA ANTALYA-ISPARTA (BY BUS) Antalya is two hours away from Isparta, by bus and it has an International Airport. Just check, if there is a flight from your city, you can fly to Antalya, then take the bus to Isparta. Bus ticket costs around 20 TL.
