This categorisation reflects the nature of these professions which collectively support the businesses of companies from administration to day-to-day activities. This group is essential to Malaysia’s service driven economy. When we speak of Corporate Professionals, there are two sub sectors which we cannot afford to ignore – Human Resources and Sales and Marketing. There is an increasing demand from employers in Malaysia for HR professionals with a consultative background primarily for the implementation of strategic HR programs (as opposed to engaging a consulting firm to do so). The roles in demand within HR in the coming year are Talent Acquisition Managers; Compensation and Benefits Managers; and Head of Human Resources amongst others. Sales and Marketing, in the meantime, joins Information Technology (IT), Engineering, and Banking and Finance as sectors in which employers in Malaysia are most likely to pay to relocate their talents. Among the roles which will continue to be highly in-demand in Sales and Marketing are National Sales Managers and Digital Marketing Managers with both skill sets growing increasingly important as sales and technology become more integrated with our everyday lives. 13 Human Resources SALARY RANGE ( PER MONTH) Qualification EXPERIENCE (YEARS) MIN MAX HUMAN RESOURCES ✪ HR Director initiatives like the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) was launched. Today, the industry employs over 130,000 people and is regarded as among the larger sectors in the country. The initiative of MSC is under the purview and management of the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC). Both the public and private Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) in Malaysia have heeded the MSC agenda by establishing programmes and working relationships with technology giants such as IBM, Dell, Apple, Google, Hewlett Packard, and Huawei Technologies, just to name a few. Specific programmes are also drafted between relevant IHLs and various companies to nurture specialised talent. On market trends, MSC Malaysia‘s Talent Supply-Demand Study 2010-2013 report cites that 90 percent of companies hired Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) talents with at least one to five years of experience, with only 10 percent of companies hiring fresh graduates. The study was conducted with more than 1,000 companies and 133 faculties in IHLs, in addition to secondary research and consultation with industry experts. Current skill gaps highlighted by the study saw software development (42 percent) skills topping the list followed by database (23 percent) and networking and security (18 percent). Additionally, the creative and animation industry too is one where Malaysia has grown exponentially over the past few years with many of our locally developed animated programmers showing all over the world, from China and Indonesia to UK and the Middle East. 21 information technology SALARY RANGE ( PER MONTH) Qualification EXPERIENCE (YEARS) SAP Team Lead Degree/Masters MIN 8-12 MAX 22,000 30,000 Program Director Degree/Masters/PMP 12-18 22,000 35,000 Chief Technical Officers/Chief Information Officers Degree/Masters 12-18 22,000 35,000 Project Directors Degree/Masters/PMP 12-18 16,000 25,000 Service Delivery Directors Degree/Masters/PMP 12-18 16,000 25,000 Sales Directors Degree/Masters 12-18 16,000 25,000 ✪ Software Development Manager Degree 8-12 13,000 18,000 ✪ Lead Software Developer Degree 5-8 9,500 15,000 Solutions Architect (Senior) Degree 6-10 11,000 15,000 ✪ ✪ ✪ Implementation & Technical Support Manager Degree 6-8 11,000 15,000 Billing Systems Specialist Degree 6-10 8,500 15,000 Unix Specialist Degree 5-8 8,500 12,000 Information Security Manager Degree 5-8 11,000 15,000 Project Manager Degree 3-5 7,000 10,000 Software Sales Manager Degree 4-6 6,500 9,000 Business Consultant Degree 5-7 6,500 9,000 Wintel Specialist Degree 4-8 5,500 9,000 Senior Systems Engineer Degree 5 6,000 8,000 IT Manager Degree 4-6 6,000 8,000 Service Delivery Manager Degree 5-8 6,500 10,000 SAP Consultants Degree 4-6 6,500 13,000 Systems Analyst Degree 3-5 6,000 8,500 Problem & Change Management Specialist Degree 3-5 5,500 8,000 ETL Developers Degree 3-6 5,500 8,000 IT Marketing Manager Degree 4-6 5,000 8,000 Security Analyst Degree 3-5 5,000 8,000 Logistics Manager Degree 3-5 5,500 7,500 Business Development Manager Degree 3-5 5,500 8,000 BI Consultant Degree 3-5 6,500 10,000 Websphere Application Developer Degree 3-5 6,500 10,000 Solutions Architect (Junior) Degree 2-4 5,500 7,000 ✪ Hot Job | Figures are base salary not including superannuation. 22 information technology SALARY RANGE ( PER MONTH) Qualification Inside Sales Manager ✪ EXPERIENCE (YEARS) Degree MIN 4-5 MAX 5,500 9,000 IT Supply Chain Manager Degree 3-5 5,500 8,000 Account Manager Degree 3-4 5,500 7,000 Technical Writer Degree 3-5 5,500 8,000 Database Administrator Degree 2-3 5,000 7,500 Quality Assurance Specialist Degree 3-5 5,000 7,000 Billing Systems Engineer Degree 2-4 4,500 6,000 Technical Consultant Degree 2-3 4,500 6,000 Pre-sales Engineer Degree 2-4 4,500 6,000 Systems Engineer Degree 2-3 4,500 6,000 Unix / Linux OS Engineer Degree 2-5 5,000 8,000 Java Developer Degree 1-3 5,000 7,000 IT Procurement Specialist Degree 2-4 4,500 6,000 Systems Programmer Degree 2 4,500 5,500 Helpdesk Tech Support (foreign language expertise) Degree 2-3 5,000 8,000 IT Trainers Degree 2-3 4,500 7,000 Network Administrator Degree 2-3 4,500 5,500 Programmer Degree 1-2 3,800 4,500 Web Designer Degree 2 4,500 5,000 Software Engineer Degree 2-3 4,500 6,000 Analyst Programmer Degree 2 4,500 6,000 Channel Sales Specialist Degree 2-3 4,000 6,000 Inside Sales Specialists Degree 2-3 4,000 6,000 Help Desk Analyst Degree 2-3 4,500 5,500 IT Marketing Communications Executive Degree 2-4 3,500 4,500 IT Administrator Diploma/Degree 1-2 3,000 4,000 IT Executive Higher Diploma/Degree 2 3,500 4,500 Automation Support Engineer Degree 1-3 3,800 5,500 Technician Diploma 1-3 2,800 4,500 ✪ Hot Job | Figures are base salary not including superannuation. 23 Kelly Engineering: Salaries 24 overview In terms of new entrants to the employment market, there have been no less than 13,000 engineering graduates from Malaysia’s public universities between 2008 and 2012. Malaysia’s public universities’ graduates from the field of engineering are increasingly in hot demand by leading engineering companies like Strand Aerospace and Linde. This healthy pattern is perhaps attributed to the global rankings of the said universities. For instance, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is ranked an outstanding 38th placing for chemical engineering worldwide while Universiti Malaya (UM) is ranked in the top 100 in the fields of chemical, and electrical and electronics engineering. Doing its part is also the Public Service Department (PSD) which awards 40 percent of its scholarships to engineering students enabling them to further their studies at renowned institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge and University of Melbourne. All encompassing, this succinctly elevates the engineering standards as practiced and demanded by the growing ambitions of Malaysia. Conclusively, the field of engineering is anticipated to positively expand with the ongoing Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). These are in addition to the High Income Talent Research Scientist Engineer (HIT-RSE) managed by the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC), and the Technology Specialist in Specific Domain Expertise (TeSSDE) which is sponsored by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and owned by Might-Meteor Advanced Manufacturing. In Engineering, talents such as mechanical engineers, process engineers, civil engineers, and health, safety and environment managers are much sought after in Malaysia. 25 Engineering SALARY RANGE ( PER MONTH) Qualification ✪ Engineering Manager EXPERIENCE (YEARS) MIN MAX Degree 8-12 13,000 22,000 Utilities Manager Degree 12-18 16,000 21,000 Head of Quality Degree/MBA 12-18 13,000 19,000 Senior Project Manager Degree 12-18 12,000 17,000 Lead Electrical Engineer Degree 12-18 8,500 13,000 Business Development Manager Degree 12-18 8,500 13,000 ✪ Quality Manager Degree 8-12 9,000 13,000 ✪ Construction Manager Degree 5-8 9,500 13,000 Project Manager Degree 6-10 9,500 13,000 ✪ ✪ Naval Architect Degree 6-8 8,500 9,500 Key Account Manager Degree 6-10 8,500 13,000 Program Managers (Electronics/Semicon) Degree 5-8 8,500 13,000 13,000 Piping Engineer Degree 5-8 7,500 Mechanical Engineer Degree 3-5 7,500 9,500 Process Engineer Degree 4-6 7,500 11,000 Operations Manager Post Graduate Diploma/Degree/Professional Degree/Masters 5-7 7,500 13,000 Project Sales Manager Degree 4-8 7,500 13,000 Finance Manager Post Graduate Diploma/Degree/Professional Degree 5 7,500 13,000 Automation Manager Degree 4-6 8,500 16,000 Global Commodity Managers (Factory) Degree 5-8 7,500 10,000 HSE Manager (Health, Safety & Environment) Degree 4-6 7,500 8,600 Production Supervisor Degree 3-5 6,500 8,500 Project Manager Degree 3-5 6,500 8,500 Technical Manager Technical Diploma/Degree 3-6 6,500 8,500 Senior Design Engineer Degree 4-6 5,500 8,500 Firmware Engineer Degree 3-5 4,500 7,500 Supplier Quality Engineer Degree 3-5 4,000 7,500 Product Engineer Degree 3-5 4,000 7,500 Quality Engineer Degree 3-5 4,000 7,000 Electrical & Instrument Engineer Degree 3-5 6,000 8,000 NPI Engineer Degree 2-4 3,500 7,500 ✪ Hot Job | Figures are base salary not including superannuation. 26 Engineering SALARY RANGE ( PER MONTH) Qualification ✪ ✪ EXPERIENCE (YEARS) MIN MAX Automation Engineer Degree 4-5 4,500 7,500 Welding Engineer Degree 3-5 4,500 6,500 Service Engineer Degree 3-4 3,800 6,000 Design Engineer Degree 3-5 3,800 6,500 Quantity Surveyor Degree 2-3 4,500 7,000 Maintenance Engineer Degree 3-5 4,500 7,500 Chemical Engineer Degree 2-4 4,500 6,500 Mechanical Engineer Degree 2-3 4,500 6,500 Civil Engineer Degree 2-4 3,800 5,500 R&D Engineer Diploma/Degree 2-3 3,500 5,500 Associate Engineer Diploma 2-5 3,800 5,500 Chargeman Diploma/Chargeman Certificate 1-3 3,800 6,500 QA Inspector Degree 2-4 3,500 5,500 Sales Engineer Technical Diploma/Degree 2 3,500 5,500 Assembly Engineer Degree 2-3 3,500 5,500 Test Engineer Technical Diploma/Degree 2-3 2,700 4,500 Site Supervisor Certificate/Diploma 2-3 2,700 4,300 Safety Inspector Safety Certificate/Diploma 1-2 2,700 4,800 3,500 Manufacturing Specialist Certificate 2 2,200 Draughts Person Diploma/Degree 2-3 2,200 3,000 Technician Technical Diploma 2 2,000 2,800 Electrical Technician Technical Diploma 2-3 2,000 2,800 ✪ Hot Job | Figures are base salary not including superannuation. 27 Malaysia Corporate Office Level 29, Menara Bank Islam No 22, Jalan Perak 50450 Kuala Lumpur Tel: (60) 3 2203 0808 Fax: (60) 3 2203 0909 Email: info@kellyservices.com.my MELAKA 35, Jalan Melaka Raya 11 Taman Melaka Raya 75000 Melaka.
