Little Rock Dermatology Clinic
Beginning in 1986, Open Arms Shelter began providing emergency
safe housing for Arkansas’ children who have been abused and/or neglected.
These children range in age from birth up to 18 years of age. Open Arms
is one of the few emergency shelters in the state that will accept children
under the age of eight, teenage mothers with their children and large sibling
groups. Through the years, thousands of children have come from all areas of
the state, but the majority of the children are from central Arkansas.
In addition to a room, the children receive three home-cooked meals
a day, snacks and around the clock supervision by our highly experienced
staff. The children attend public school, receive individualized behavior
instruction and management plus receive instruction on basic life skills.
Recognizing the need to mentor teens for a longer period of time and
teach them independent living skills and equipping them with the tools
they need to succeed in adult life, a new wing was added in 2011. Today,
Open Arms Shelter has the ability to serve 24 children at a time whether by
emergency or long-term care, depending on the needs of children under the
care DHS.
Children come to our facility from every imaginable type of crisis. It is
not unusual for a child to hide food because they have grown accustomed to
not knowing when or where their next meal will come. Many times a child
will arrive in tears because of their tragic situation and then leave in tears
because Open Arms Shelter was truly the only caring environment they
have ever experienced. The stay with Open Arms may provide the basis for
hope that will stay with them and positively influence them for a lifetime.
Open Arms Shelter serves not only as a steppingstone for children
in Arkansas awaiting placement in foster homes, treatment facilities or
with relatives, but also long-term care and as a critical source of education,
rehabilitation, love, attention and discipline.
Although the new addition affords Open Arms Shelter the privilege
of serving more children, the cost of building the new wing has placed the
Shelter in debt. Thank you for supporting Open Arms Shelter by attending this
important fundraiser. If you would like to do more for the children of Open
Arms Shelter, please contact Nancy Hamlin, Executive Director (501) 676-6166
or e-mail oashamlin@sbcglobal.net.
While serving children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, our needs
are never ending. If you believe in the mission of Open Arms Shelter, please
consider donating monthly with needed items such as food or paper products
or contribute financially to this private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Open
Arms Shelter is licensed by the State of Arkansas. Your tax-deductible donation
will help insure that children in need have hope for a better tomorrow.

many worthwhile children’s organizations, including Open
Arms Shelter. She and her family also attend Park Hill Baptist
Church in North Little Rock.
Sondra Burnett
Gifted singer, songwriter and speaker, Sondra Burnett, is using
her God-given talent and natural Southern humor to bring

journalist who has also been honored by the Associated Press
for investigative reporting.
Bob grew up on New York’s Long Island and attended school

Calcagni is perhaps best known for his role in the defeat of the heavily favored
#2 ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the 1978 Orange Bowl. Following that upset
victory Calcagni and head coach Lou Holtz were on the September 11th, 1978

Jose Sarduy
Jose takes audiences on the rollercoaster ride that’s been his life. Born in
Cuba and deported because of his father’s political prisoner status, he came to
the U.S. at a young age. Growing up with a hard working, and always quirky,
Cuban family brought loads of funny moments everyday. From his mom’s
ability to kill a chicken with her bare hands, to his dad’s ability to hit on any
woman, anytime, there was never a dull moment.
What they did best was teach him to work hard for his dreams, and not forget
how to laugh at life and himself. He made them proud when he was accepted to the U.S. Air
Force Academy in Colorado. He became an officer in the Air Force, is an accomplished aviator,
and is a veteran having served in Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
His comedy career started out in New York and Philadelphia. He performs all over the country
now and is rapidly becoming an audience favorite for his ability to make deportation, and life
threatening moments hysterical.
He was selected for the 2007 Latino Laugh Festival in Los Angeles, and the Lucky 21 Contest at
The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas. In 2008 he won the Funniest Person In South Texas Comedy
Competition and was a semi-finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition. In
2009, he was a finalist in the Seattle International Comedy Competition. In 2011 he was the winner of the Rocky Mountain Laugh Off in Salt Lake City, UT. He’s been seen on CNN, CBS, Fox,
and Lifetime’s “Coming Home” with his touring group, The GIs of Comedy. Most nights you
can find him on stage somewhere, but one week a month, its all dog tags and volleyball, down in
Texas, helping teaching the next generation of top guns.
9
Celebrity Scary-oke Performers (listed alphabetically)
Governor Mike Beebe - Special Performance
Since taking office in 2007, Governor Mike Beebe has made improving education, expanding Arkansas’s economy and cutting taxes top priorities. He
has guided the state through the worst economic downturn in two generations, resulting in Arkansas being one of only four states to enter the current
fiscal year without a projected budget shortfall. Arkansas has avoided the
massive cuts in services and tax increases suffered by other states while
achieving more than a half-billion dollars in tax relief during Governor
Beebe’s first term.
A champion of education and economic development, Governor Beebe has overseen Arkansas’s rise in national education rankings and the announcement of more than 26,000 new
jobs. He has helped conclude the lengthy court dispute over Arkansas’s public-school system,
secured the largest single capital investment in Arkansas public schools, and made record
investments in higher education. He has expanded adult-education programs, and worked to
match colleges and universities with local businesses to produce a better-trained workforce.
Born in Amagon, Arkansas (Jackson County), in 1946, the Governor earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Arkansas State University in 1968, and completed law school at
the University of Arkansas in 1972, while serving his country in the U.S. Army Reserve.
The Governor and his wife, Ginger, have three adult children. They have worked together to
improve children’s health and literacy throughout the State.
Natalie Canerday, “When You’re Good to Mama”
Actress Natalie Canerday is a native of Russellville, Arkansas. After attending Hendrix College (where she performed in plays with Herman’s Head
star William Ragsdale), she began her motion picture career as a production
secretary for the television feature The Tuskegee Airmen, then made minor
appearances in films such as Biloxi Blues and Walk the Line.
Her most famous roles have been as protagonists’ harried mothers in Sling
Blade and October Sky. In 1996, she and others in Billy Bob Thornton’s
Sling Blade cast were collectively nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Cast
in a Motion Picture. You can sometimes catch her in a production at Murry’s Dinner Theater in
Little Rock.
Lauren Clark, “Lil’ Red Riding Hood”
You’ve seen her on the news, the runway and on the stage...Lauren Clark
is a familiar face to many. A former reporter for KTHV and Sync Weekly,
she now spends her days shooting her own pictures and keeping up with
the social scene. Lauren lives in West Little Rock and says as much as she
loves seeing the little children dressed up in costume, she probably won’t be
having any trick-or-treaters this year. Why? She already ate the candy corn
and Skittles and plans to be out on the town herself--dressed up and ready to
howl at the moon.
This is Lauren’s 3rd year to participate in Scary-oke and hopes you’ll enjoy her performance
she’s dedicating to her mother who’s always been a huge fan of the little girl in the red hood.

to her family and how connected it kept them to their relatives back home. It
was there that her passion for news and informing the community was born.
Jeannette is the youngest of four. She has two sisters, Jannelle and Gisselle, and her brother
Edwin. She received her BA in Broadcast Journalism at Kent State University where she
was the first place recipient of the national Hearst Award and RTDNA’s Ken Kashiwahara
