- SIGMA NU -
One of the sayings we like to throw around a lot at Sigma Nu is the mantra: “it’s cool to care." It’s cool to care about
sustainability, cool to care about the girls that hang around our house, cool to care about politics, partying, P-sets, athletics, and
everything in between. We are a group of guys as diverse as those interests, from ASSU President, Johnny Dorsey to the one and
only Stanford Tree, Jon Shü-Fry Strange. We have runners, rowers, Gaieties performers, RAs, ROTC guys, Sierra Camp Staffers,
and guys involved in just about every organization on the Stanford campus. What binds us together is a commitment to our projects and to the people we care about.
Most of us, when we arrived at Stanford had no intention of turning into the sort of douchey frat guys that we had
heard were closely tied to the Greek scene, but, at the same time, we wanted more out of our Stanford experience. We wanted to
live with a people who shared our passion, and would support us in our endevors. That was what brought us to Sigma Nu.
In our 7th year living at 557 Mayfield, we continue to contribute to the campus in dynamic and unique ways. During
the year we throw two of the biggest events on the Stanford campus, Moonsplash and Sunsplash. This past fall’s “Darkside of the
Moonsplash” featured live bands, (including The Jakes led by Sophomore Sigma Nu Sameer Gadhia) two dance floors, multiple
corporate sponsors, and a huge turn out. Within weeks we hosted the Sigma Nu Arts and Poetry Slam (SNAPS), an all campus
performance that featured live music, improv comedy, dance and spoken work to our friends who relaxed in our lounge and were
treated to our chef's incredible food. Beyond that, Sigma Nu hosts Balcony Nights, every Thursday, sorority mix-ers and progressives, formals, special dinners and a snow trip, to name a few. We are also committed to our community service projects. Our
members are highly active in service groups and activities including Habitat for Humanity, EPATT, blood drives, and Camp Kesem. Members of Sigma Nu are effecting change on a national level, founding the Roosevelt Institution and FACEAIDS, a nonprofit organization, mobilizing students from across the country to fight AIDS in Africa.
But the true spirit of Sigma Nu rests in its members, guys who are adventurous, fun-loving, thoughtful, caring and
passionate. We invite you to come by our house to find out what makes Sigma Nu such a unique and amazing organization.
