Literacy writing worksheets Overview
Literacy writing worksheets Overview The reproducible Literacy writing worksheets offer practice recognizing shapes as well as recognizing and forming letters and numbers. Developing these skills is foundational for preliterate, nonliterate, and semiliterate students who are not yet ready to do tasks that require them to read and write. The Writing readiness worksheets (Worksheets 1–2) prepare students for forming letters and numbers by practicing lines and curves. The Letter formation worksheets (Worksheets 3–14) practice forming groups of capital and lowercase letters according to stroke type: for example, horizontal and vertical strokes as in E and L, diagonal strokes as in K and Z, and circular strokes as in o and e. All the letters in the English alphabet are formed from combinations of these six strokes: The Writing worksheets are arranged according to the following sequence: Writing readiness Worksheet 1: Lines Worksheet 2: Curves Letter formation Worksheet 3: L T F H I E Worksheet 4: V W N M Worksheet 5: A K Y X Z Worksheet 6: O C G Q Worksheet 7: D P R B Worksheet 8: S U J Worksheet 9: o c a e s Worksheet 10: i r n m Worksheet 11: u v w z x Worksheet 12: l t f k Worksheet 13: h b d Worksheet 14: p g q y j Letter practice Worksheets 15–40: the alphabet © Cambridge University Press 2014 Photocopiable The Letter practice worksheets (Worksheets 15–40) help literacy students to relate the two forms of each letter by practicing both the capital and lowercase forms. Make extra copies of the Letter formation and Letter practice worksheets to have on hand in the classroom so Ss can practice as much as they like. Provide Ss with ample copies of the Blank practice worksheets for further practice or classroom activities. Many Ss are more comfortable writing their answers within the lines of the writing grids.
