BRENNER PALMER
It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of PEARLIA FRANCES BRENNER
PALMER, age 86, on February 26, 2012, an
extraordinary mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and friend. While her most
cherished roles were as a mother and grandmother, she also enjoyed teaching special
needs children, sports, music, the arts, and
volunteering. PEARLIA, a woman with an
enormous heart and passion for life, is
survived by her children, SUSAN and
JEFFRY KOMINS, STEVEN and CHARLENE
BRENNER, and JOYCE BRENNER; her
grandchildren, ELISA and BRET MORRIS,
DEBORAH and DAVID ROSS, STUART BRENNER, GREGORY BRENNER, JESSICA and
KEN BALLINGER, AND ANDREA and
ALFONSO (DECEASED) SANSONE; her great
grandchildren, JAKE and COLE MORRIS,
BENNETT and CARTER ROSS, and LORENZO

CHARLES FREEDMAN -- beloved father,
grandfather, great-grandfather, husband,
brother and friend -- passed away Sunday,
February 12, 2012. He was an accountant,
world traveler, voracious reader, caregiver,
swimmer, hospital volunteer, racetrack aficionado, wine lover, bon vivant, and inspiration
to everyone who met him. Over the course of
his nearly 89 years, CHARLES -- or CHARLIE
or Pop-Pop -- lived a full life of remarkable
variety and love. He was raised by his revered
grandfather, CHAIM, in South Philadelphia,
served in the Pacific for the Army in World
War II, enrolled in the Wharton School on the
GI Bill, worked as an accountant and rose to
the position of CFO in his company, and
eventually retired to give back to the community and spend time with his children and
grandchildren. He was married twice, first to
SYLVIA and then to LEDA, loving and caring
for them both in their last years with a lifeaffirming sense of loyalty and tenderness. He
is survived by his sons ARNOLD (LINDA)
FREEDMAN and IAN (SANDRA) FREEDMAN;
four grandchildren, BRIAN (STEPHANIE)
FREEDMAN, AMY (MICHAEL) SHUBERT,
JOSH and JILL FREEDMAN; three
great-grandchildren, SOPHIE FREEDMAN
and JACOB and BENJAMIN SHUBERT; and
LEDA’s daughter JAYNE (MARK) ORBER,
whom he loved like his own. He will be dearly
missed, and remembered with deep, abiding
fondness and love. Like his grandfather
before him, he is leaving behind his good his
good name, and three generations of family
who truly wish to live up to the example
he set.

HARRY GOLDBERG DIED FEBRUARY 1, 2012 – PROMINENT CARDIOLOGIST
HARRY GOLDBERG received his medical degree from Long Island College of Medicine after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed
residencies in Pathology at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City and Internal Medicine at
Sinai Hospital in Philadelphia. He received his training in Cardiovascular Diseases at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. He was Chief of Cardiology at Albert Einstein Medical
Center for 25 years; Director Emeritus for 17 years. He was Director of the Women’s
League for Medical Research Cardiopulmonary Renal Laboratories at Albert Einstein Medical Center for 33 years. DR. GOLDBERG also devoted his time towards the education of the
next generation of doctors as a Professor of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine. He trained over 70 physicians throughout the world. Intimately concerned with humanitarian causes, DR. GOLDBERG devoted extensive time and effort to Deborah Heart and
Lung Center, serving as head of the Cardiology Department for 26 years; Director Emeritus
for 15 years, and Vice-President of Medical Affairs for 8 years.
DR. GOLDBERG is the author of more than 150 medical publications and co-author of five
books in the field of diseases of the heart and cardiac catheterization, published in multiple
languages throughout the world.
Among his numerous appointments, DR. GOLDBERG has served as President of the
American Heart Association Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter, and the Pennsylvania Affiliate. He was on the Board of Trustees of the American Heart Association. He served as
Governor for Eastern Pennsylvania of the American College of Cardiology, numerous
organizations devoted to the healing arts, and has received many distinguished awards and
honors, among them the Distinguished Service Award of the American Heart Association,
the Humanitarian Award at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, “Man of the Year” by the Jewish National Fund, Physicians and Surgeons Division, Physician Award for Excellence (Albert Einstein Medical Center), Physician Leadership Award (Albert Einstein Medical Center), SHIN Award Jewish Theological Seminary Award, and Maimonides Society of Albert
Einstein Medical Center, Special Honoree. He was involved in various Jewish causes and
organizations, and had strong feelings toward Israel. A member of Beth Sholom Congregation. His memory will live on in the many patients he healed, the many physicians he taught,
and the many lives he inspired by accepting nothing less than excellence from himself.

Valley and graduated from Lower Moreland
High School in 1976, and attended Temple
University. He was a great athlete who loved
bowling and baseball, but his true passion
was Philadelphia sports teams. JEFFREY will
be remembered by his loved ones, as a man
of great strength and courage. He touched
many people’s lives and truly was an inspiration to all those that knew him. JEFFREY is

Cherberg, Inc. and Marti Designs, Inc. He retired in 1985 and loved living on the beach in

University and School of Medicine. He was a
retired Captain in the United States Navy.
DR. SALKIN was the son of the late NATHAN

VIRGINIA “GINNY” SOLIS-COHEN, born
VIRGINIA ROSALIE KAUFMAN to ALICE and
OTTO KAUFMAN in New York City on January
31, 1922, passed away peacefully at the age
of 90 on March 2, 2012 at her home in
Pennswood Village, Newtown, PA. A resident
of Rydal, PA for over 50 years, she was
married to her remarkably sweet husband,
HAYS, for close to 50 years before he died in
1991. GINNY took immense pleasure in being
a mother (and mother-in-law) to BETSY
(PETER), DAVID (CAROLE) and KATE (before
she died in 1973); a grandmother to EMILY,
SARAH, DANIEL, FLAVIA, HANNAH, EMMA
and BEN; a great grandmother to PAUL,
OLIVER and MATEO and loving aunt to
FRANK, ROBERT and JIM. She graduated
from the Birch Wathen School in New York
City and Tyler Art School in Philadelphia, and
was a talented artist and sculptor. Her lively
character and spirit will be missed by family
and friends, but her positive outlook on life
and her art will remain a part of us forever.

He was exceptionally compassionate, an
advocate for the homeless and shut-in
elderly. He fed the poor and was the voice of

Feb. 27, 2012, age 91. Beloved wife of the
late BENJAMIN SUGARMAN. Cherished by
her children CHERYL (JOSEPH) BAUM and
HARVEY (GENESSA) SUGARMAN. Adored by
grandchildren MARNE (ADAM) GLADSTONE,
MICHAEL (JENNIFER) SUGARMAN, SARAH
BAUM and EVAN (and his fiancee LIZA)
BAUM as well as great-grandchildren JULIA,
MICHELLE, JOSHUA, AEDAN, LOGAN and
NOAH. LILLIAN was the youngest of 7
children born to CELIA and HARRY ANMUTH.
Predeceased by brothers and sisters; ROSE,
SAMUEL, HERMAN, ESTHER, MORTON
and ALBERT. Loved by many nieces and
nephews. At 52 years of age, LILLIAN went
back to work as a Teacher's Assistant in the
Phila. School system, working at Stetson and
S. Solis Cohen Schools. She was the oldest
aide there, loved by her children and
teachers. She knew she was an “excellent
aide” and was fulfilled by the work. She
retired at age 62. LILLIAN resided at Deer
Meadows Retirement for the final four years
of her life. Active and adored by the staff, she
touched them all with her good will and
enthusiasm. Her passions were reading,
writing, bingo and in the last year of her life
drawing. She was a contented lady. Contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
