Ready 4 Learning News UW-Oshkosh Phone Number 424-0260 Mrs. Valery Splittgerber splitv47@uwosh.edu Mrs. Dena Dorn (PM EC Teacher) dena.dorn@oshkosh.k12.wi.us Teaching Assistant: Ms. Pat Weekly Theme: Shadows and Groundhog Day This week we are going to have a great time learning about shadows and Groundhog Day! We will enjoy learning if Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow or not. Will we have six more weeks of winter? There are so many fun activities planned for this week. We will of course be doing a Groundhog Day art project. The children will be using paper plates to make a “hole” for the groundhog to hide in. This activity will teach us about making predictions. Each child’s prediction may be different, but that’s okay! We are going to enjoy learning the song Here’s a Little Groundhog. It is sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and has fun actions to go with it! At the discovery table, there will be flashlights, puppets, and books on different ways to make shadow hand puppets. This center is going to be a hit! At the math center, the children will be busy creating ABC and ABB patterns. This activity will be done using different shadows and groundhog templates. The children will also be practicing ordering numbers with a groundhog game. The sensory table will be filled with sand. The children will enjoy digging borrows for the “groundhogs” to live in. Wanted!!! We are looking for the following items to use in our classroom: magazines, greeting card covers, paper towel tubes, toilet paper tubes, and empty baby wipe containers. Instead of putting these things in your recycling bin, why don’t you send them to school? We would love to use them for various activities. We will be collecting these items for the remainder of the school year. Thanks for your help! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------News from Home: Child’s Name ______________________________ Please share something interesting that is happening at home ________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________
