The Redemptorists - The Boston Pilot
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time From the Rector Very Rev. Joseph Tizio, C.Ss.R. This week we celebrate two great feasts which demand our attention and give us a reason to be joyful. First and foremost, this Monday, June 27th is the feast of our Patroness, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Sometimes, when I worry about the parish and how we are going to continue or how we are going to pay all our bills, I always remind myself that Our Lady of Perpetual Help has guided this parish for well over one hundred years. She has guided it through the great depression, two world wars, and countless other crises and difficulties. However, this basilica still stands and it continues to be a vibrant faith community which proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all our neighbors. So, if Our Lady of Perpetual Help has guided us through all that, she is not going to abandon us now! We celebrate this week that the Virgin Mary in indeed our Perpetual Help, the word “perpetual” is most important. As we say in the novena prayers, she is ALWAYS ready to help us and that help will be perpetual, it will never cease. We give thanks to our dear Mother of Perpetual Help for her love, protection, and guidance through all these years and we renew our confidence that she will never abandon this wonderful parish community! The other great feast this week is the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul this Wednesday, June 29th. If Jesus Christ is the foundation and head of the Church, Peter and Paul are the two great pillars which support it. Peter was chosen to lead the Church not because of his strength but because of his weakness. Through failure and struggle he learned to place all his trust in Christ alone. Once Paul was converted from persecuting the Church to being a member of the Church; he gave his unstoppable energy and love to Christ and became the second founder of Christianity after Christ himself. So, celebrate this week and know that we will never be abandoned. Healing Service Today’s Healing Service at 2:00pm will be held in the Parish Center below the main church.
