"I did not go through the pain
and come out the other side,
instead, I lived in it and found
within that pain the grace to
survive and eventually grow. I
did not get over the loss of my
loved one; rather I absorbed the
pain into my life like soil
receiving decaying matter until
became a part of who I am.
Sorrow took up permanent
residence in my soul and
enlarged it.
(Jerry Sittser, A Grace
Disguised)
"Come to the silence and I will
whisper to you
Come to the darkness and I will
show you light
Come to the warmth in the chill
of grief
and I will wrap myself around
you
Come into the sadness and I
will show you my love

PLEASE NOTE NEW MEETINGS FOR GROWING CHAPTER & VALLEY
We have begun a meeting in Goodyear to encompass the Southwest Valley as well as in Chandler for the Far
East valley members. We feel as large as the valley is now that just a West and East valley meetings are not
enough and to make it easier for you to attend have branched out. Meeting times and locations are on the front
page. Please welcome new facilitators: Angie Saucedo and Carolee Holbrook.
COLD CASE REGISTRY FOR HOMICIDES
The Phoenix Police Department now has a Cold Case Registry on line. The link is
http://phoenix.gov/police/investigations/coldcase/index.html. The second phase of this website project will
eventually include a searchable listing of cold cases with a brief synopsis of each case. Interested persons can
then send us information on the case or be routed to Silent Witness should they want to do so. Hopefully, this
will generate more tips and leads and move more cases to successful resolution. Many family members just
need to know their loved one's case is still open, and hopefully this will give them solace that the case is not
forgotten.
ANNUAL HOLIDAY MEMORIAL SERVICE "IN THEIR LOVING MEMORIES"
Our annual holiday memorial service was attended by more than 300 this year. As always, it was a beautiful
4
service with a memorial tribute to our loved ones, ornament hanging, flowers in remembrance and candle and
rose lighting ceremonies. We also gave out 3 "Empty Shoes" awards this year to those who go the extra mile in
supporting this chapter and its mission. Receiving it this year were: Nancy Molever of the Juvenile Impact
Program in the Juvenile Department of Corrections, Pastors Arrow McCullough and Bobbi Walker of
Raspberry Cottage Ministries and our very own Sue Osolin, a member of your board of directors for the past 13
years who is stepping down to take care of herself for a while. Sue has had ongoing health issues and after so
many years of taking care of our members and this chapter, she deserves to have time for herself. It is not
goodbye for Sue though as her husband Tim remains on our board and she will still be helping as our facebook
page coordinator. We also gave out appreciation gifts to the crime victim field advocates and our chapter
volunteers.
Our service was followed by a catered dinner in which everyone mingled and enjoyed the company of other
survivors in our POMC family and those dedicated to assisting this chapter.
*Special thanks to Arizona Family Florists for giving us 300 carnations at cost.
JANUARY SPEAKER INFORMATION & BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTIONS MEETING
Don't forget January Speaker Information Meeting is also our annual elections meeting for the board of director
openings. Our speaker will be Debbie Parnham, a member of our chapter and formerly of the Life Sentence
Program. More information on the front of the newsletter. See you there.
►CHAPTER WINDOW DECALS AND BRACELETS FOR SALE◄
We have custom made white window decals in a beautiful circular design with our name, chapter web site, and
logo with a sun surrounding a parent/child for sale. They are $10 and they are for the outside of your car
window and last through weather and car washes or you can even put them on house windows ( I did). Also
our Chapter Bracelets are black and red multi with “POMC” and “Always in our Hearts” (our loved ones) on
them. These are only $3. To order, just send a note and payment to: PO Box 19620 North 38th Avenue,
Glendale AZ 85308-2215. The window decals are better than bumper stickers, easier to remove when needed
and come with instructions for attaching and help bring awareness of POMC to others.
MESSAGES FROM MEMBERS AND OTHERS:
 On behalf of the National Board of Trustees and National Staff we wish you a peaceful Holiday Season.
Dear Beckie and Chapter: On behalf of the National Board of Trustees and the National Organization of
Parents Of Murdered Children, Inc., we extend our sincere appreciation for your generous donation. We thank
you for your generosity, kindness and compassion so that we can continue working for the families and friends
of those who have died by violence.
Again, we thank you for your donation from the Grief Retreat Weekend in memory of all your loved ones.
Sincerely yours, Dan Levey, Executive Director
Dear Beckie:
The enclosed donation is in loving memory of our son, Eric, and to show our appreciation for the incredible
support you and our special family at POMC have given us. Each letter(to the parole board) was
psychologically beneficial to us as well as a strong statement to the Parole Board. Each letter told of unique
caring, and of help in shouldering the burden of keeping murderer, Jacob Wideman from adding others to the
POMC family by murdering yet another person.
The parole hearings are cruel and unusual punishment, and we have not yet come back to normal, but we will.
We are strong: in no small part because of you and the POMC family.
Love, Louise and Sandy Kane.
SIBLING ON LINE SUPPORT
Amanda Harris, a member of our chapter, has formed an on line Sibling Support venue.
www.unitingsiblings.com or phone her for more information at 623-866-3189. Amanda lost her brother Joshua
to murder and understands the sibling grief in a way only siblings can.

NATIONAL POMC INFORMATION
☺ CINCINNATI OHIO OFFICE☺
●NATIONAL CONFERENCE: The 28th National POMC Conference will be held next year in Rochester,
Minnesota, August 14 - 17 at the Kahler Grand Hotel. Plan now to attend this wonderful event for survivors of
a homicide victim and benefit from the many informative workshops on traumatic grief, navigating the
confusing and often frustrating maze of the criminal justice system, and networking with so many other
survivors and professionals across the country.
●SAD NEWS: POMC is sad to inform you that Mr. Hyman Eisenberg, a former National Board of Trustees
member and POMC National President recently passed away. Hyman received the Lisa Hullinger award in
1997 and he wrote a book published by POMC “The Inner Grief of Men…Dealing with Pain”. Hyman became
involved in POMC after the murder of his son Greg. Our POMC thoughts are with his beloved wife Phyllis and
his family.
● ACTS OF SIMPLE KINDNESS SCHOLARSHIPS: Acts of Simple Kindness, Inc., ("ASK") provides
financial assistance for dependent children of widows and widowers under the age of 18. The financial
assistance must be used to fund a program or class within the areas of education, sports, music or the arts.
Applications that are for purposes other than these four will be discarded. For more information, please go to
http://actsofsimplekindness.org/grant-program/
●DONATIONS AND SUPPORT OF NATIONAL POMC: There are many ways to help with much needed
funds for POMC including any items you buy on Amazon.com as well as if you shop the Kroger Stores. It is
every simple and does not cost you anything and yet your purchase allows a percent from these companies to go
directly to National. Please go on-line to www.pomc.org and see how you can sign up for this or contact
dslone@pomc.org
● AUTO DONATIONS: We are encouraging all chapters and contact persons to get involved with POMC
Debit Authorization. You can now donate to NATIONAL POMC by setting up an automatic withdrawal from
your bank account to National. Contact National for a debit authorization form. This is a fast and easy way to
make a donation to National to help us help others. Your donation is withdrawn at the same time of the month
each month and no amount is too small. We appreciate your help during these difficult economic times.
●PAROLE BLOCK PROGRAM: To date this program had kept more than 1396 prisoners who committed murders
from being released early. Parole Block was begun in 1990 and all members across the United States whose loved one’s
killer is up for early release/parole consideration can file a petition with National that is sent nationwide for signatures
protesting their release.
TOPIC FORUM: POMC has a “Topic Forum” on its web site. It provides a place where survivors all over
the U.S. can communicate with each other. It’s a good place to suggest to those who aren’t able to attend
monthly grief support meetings to utilize the support. Please let your members know that it is there for
additional support so that they can tell their other family members, co-workers and friends who may be in states
where we have no POMC chapters.
SECOND OPINION SERVICES: A program that provides second opinions on unsolved or complicated
cases by a national board comprised solely of experts in the medical, law enforcement and investigative fields.
MURDER IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT (MINE) PROGRAM: Through this program, POMC raises
public awareness to the insensitivity of murder as entertainment through toys, games, murder mystery
weekends, drive by shooting fashions, serial killer trading cards and anything that glamorizes violence.
BIG TURN OFF: This is an annual event, each January, in which citizens are asked to turn off their
televisions for one evening during prime time hours to protest the violence on television.
MURDER WALL: (A traveling tribute honoring the memories of murder victims). A photo album is also
available with each plaque. Currently, the cost is $75 to add your loved ones names to the Walnut Plaques that
comprise the Murder Wall. You have two pages for the photo album to add information, poetry or pictures.
SILENCED VOICES: A program begun in January 2002 which advocates for the vigorous investigation and
prosecution of those responsible for the murder of abused children. The first case was that of Brandi Conley.
POMC was instrumental in bringing charges against her parents.

David (April 29, 1979 - July 8, 2000)
Sometimes it feels like yesterday,
But sometimes it’s just forever.
Sometimes it feels much, much worse,
But sometimes it’s a little better.
Sometimes I feel I can’t go on,
But sometimes I feel I can.
Sometimes I feel I’m stronger,
But sometimes I need a hand.
December 9, 1972 - May 6, 2007
Sometimes I’m an angry lion,
But sometimes I’m a crying child.
Eugene:
Painful is a birthday, when the one you love is gone.
Heartwarming memories of celebrations past are what is
left to remember my beautiful son.
Special was this day for forty-one years,
friends and family gathering to share love, laughter and
especially to let him know how much we appreciate his
being here.
Now all is quiet and tough choices to be made.
Where to go, what to believe, especially on his day.
For me, for now, and I hope forever more,
I will hold onto God’s promises of heaven
where once again I will be with my precious son.
Sometimes I’m feeling crazy,
But sometimes I’m downright wild.
Sometimes my brain is cloudy,
But sometimes it’s painfully clear.
Sometimes you seem so far away,
But sometimes I know you’re near.
Sometimes I think I get it,
But sometimes I don’t have a clue.
Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mijo.
And sometimes I don’t like anyone,
But I’ll always, always love you
We love you and miss you so much. "Forever in our
hearts."

PARENTS OF MURDERED

“BIG TURN-OFF”
(To Protest the Violence on Prime Time Television)
The annual Big Turn-Off for our organization is Wednesday, January
8, 2014 during prime time hours on television when our vulnerable
children are watching.
● This is our organization’s annual program to protest the violence on
television, and a part of the Murder is not Entertainment Program, and is
designated the second Wednesday of January. Please support us and turn off
your televisions during the prime time hours of the second Wednesday evening.
Play games with your family, take a walk or read a book instead. It seems like
year after year the family hour on television continues to add more and more
“crime shows” to their programming. So help us continue to educate not only our
communities, but the networks as well. Inform your family members, friends, coworkers and churches and let them know about this important event. *The
American Psychological Association has reported that the average child watches
8,000 televised murders and 100,000 acts of violence before finishing elementary
school. That number more than doubles by the time he/she reaches the age of
18. Prime time television should be violence free for our children.
