Your first day in CLIC
On your first day, pass by the reception in the morning ( 9:00 h) in order to check that you are
enrolled on the right course and to indicate you in which classroom to do the written and the
oral test. You will receive your student card and some further information about our school. In
case that there are pending payments, please settle them at the administration department.
Once these administration matters are solved, those who have enrolled in a beginners' course
gather in the patio. A teacher will show you around the school and explain you the services.
All other students go to the classrooms indicated by our staff to do the written and the oral test.
At 11.00 h there is a general assembly on the roof terrace where we will present the CLIC staff
and cultural programme and indicate you the names of your teachers and the class room.
Have a nice stay! You are welcome to consult any doubt or question you may have with our
staff. For those who do not speak much Spanish yet, members of the CLIC team cover several
languages: English, German, French, Italian, Japanese…

The courses
We offer 4 types of courses on a full-time scale. General intensive course A (20 or 30 lessons),
Long-term course B, Executive mini-group course C and D (20 or 30 lessons).
Classes for the above courses are divided into two different groups:
The first part handles the actual language, its structures, and its communicative structures
and functions. The second part deals with specific cultural topics to develop all the
communicative skills of the language: oral expression, listening comprehension, written
expression and reading comprehension. Our classes are not superficial or rushed, but global
and in depth.
We recommend you speak continuously with your teacher to let him/ her know what subjects
interest you and to recommend to them activities to carry out in class.
The more you become involved in your class the more you will learn.
COMPLEMENTARY WORKSHOPS
We offer extra courses that strengthen the learning of the language in a more specific way.
Combining these workshops with the courses you are already taking can be the best way of
making the most of your stay with us.
AX
CONVERSATION AND GRAMMAR REVIEW
In this course you can have daily support of what you study in the morning. That is to say, you
will not be encountering new subjects, but you will have the possibility to extend the
information given to you before and to use it in class. It is suited to those who may have some
difficulties in following the normal learning speed during the morning, or for those who wish to
make the most of what has been learnt during the day.

Some students have such specific needs that the best way to meet them is through private classes.

who may have problems with the general speed of a group course. It is also ideal for those who wish to
focus on specific forms of the language: Technical Spanish, written Spanish, pronounciation...
SPECIAL COURSES
All the courses mentioned previously can be combined with the general courses.
But we are also aware that we have a particular group of students who may wish to be in a class with
people of their own age and may have other specific preferences. A reason for which we have decided
to offer courses such as these on determined dates.
MC

A course for the over 50s. It includes a very special programme more focused on the practical side of
the language and the Spanish culture. Because of this, the course includes a meal with the teacher,

HEALTH
PUBLIC HEALTH CARE
Students from the European Union, non-resident in Spain, must have the E-111 or E-128 form
in order to be attended at a Social Security Centre in Spain. The best solution for someone
who wants to stay in Spain for a short period without becoming resident, is the form E111/
E128.
It is issued by the national health services in your home country, and you should have it
together with your passport, ready for any emergencies. If you go to a private doctor or
hospital, they will ask you to pay, and your insurance reimburses you later.
Students from outside the European Union will be attended depending on the International
agreements established on the matter.
PRIVATE HEALTH CARE
This insurance is used either as a supplement or an alternative to public care. The advantage
of private insurance is that the companies have their own network of hospitals, clinics and
laboratories. Policyholders usually do not have to wait as long for treatment. The school office
offers an inexpensive health insurance, please ask in the office for details.

In case of an emergency, don't worry about insurance issues and just head directly to the
nearest emergency room (urgencias). Under Spanish law, any health organization, public or
private, is required to treat patients in an emergency situation regardless of their insurance
status.

SECURITY
In Seville like in any other city in the world, the risk of theft exists. That is why we recommend
you take certain safety precautions:
x
Pay extra attention to your bag or rucksack when you are walking in the street and
when you are at bars and terraces.
x Do not carry around with you large sums of money, just the amount you may be
needing at that moment.
x Leave in your accommodation identification documents (but always carry a
photocopy of your I.D.) and valuable goods: passport, plane or train tickets, credit
cards, etc.
There are three separate police organisations in Andalucia:
The Guardia Civil wear green uniforms. They are responsible for national security, customs
and for crowd control at large events. They patrol the main highways with cars and motorbikes
and organise radar speeding checks.
The National Police normally wear a black uniform and white shirts. Others will wear a blue
military style uniform and can be heavily armed as their duties include guarding public
buildings, the Royal Family and Government figures. They deal with most crime investigation
which is important to know if you are unfortunate enough to be the victim of some crime, such
as a bag snatching. If this is the case, you should make a statement (denuncia) at a police
station. They will issue you with a copy for your insurance company (and banks if your credit
card is taken and misused).
The Policia Municipal are essentially local police and wear blue and white uniforms. They
are responsible to the mayor and town hall in each municipality, and devote much time to local
traffic control and parking violations. As ambassadors for their town they are most likely to help
tourists.

GOING OUT IN SEVILLE
The way of life in Spain and particularly in Seville differentiates itself from other countries
mainly by its “later than usual” schedule, lunch is served between 14:00 and 15:00 h, the
afternoon tea or snack takes place at around 18:00 h and supper at around 22:00 h! The main
meal of the day is lunch and in the evening people tend to eat out and venture into the many
different bars Seville has to offer for a “tapeo” (snack).
BARS
Barrio Santa Cruz and Cathedral Area
Bar Giralda (c/Mateos Gagos 1): One of Seville's most famous bars which was originally a
Moorish bathhouse. Offers a huge selection of tapas. Try the espinacas con garbanzos
(spinach with chickpeas).
Bodega Belmonte (c/Mateos Gago 24): A newish bar with superb tapas.
Bodega Santa Cruz (c/Justino de Neve 2): A lively place which attracts locals and tourists
alike. Offers a great choice of tapas. Notice how the waiter chalks your bill on the bar.
Casa Román (Plaza de los Venerables 1): Superb old tapas bar famous for its jamón de
jabugo (one of Spain's finest cured hams) and caña de lomo (a pork stew).
Hostería del Laurel (Plaza de los Venerables 5): On the opposite corner of the square from
Casa Roman this historic bar offers excellent tapas including zarzuelita de mariscos (shellfish
cocktail).
Las Teresas (c/Santa Teresa 2): An atmospheric bar with a bullfighting tradition which serves
a fine selection of tapas.
Casa Antonio (Plaza Alfalfa): You simply shouldn't leave Seville without trying Antonio's
cabrillas. These are delicious snail dishes served in a moist, herb sauce.
Entrecárceles (Callejón del Agua, 6): A tiny bar holding no more than 20 people which lies on
the site of a former prison. Serves excellent sherries.
Bar Modesto (c/Cano y Cueto, 5): One of the city's best and most well known tapas bars
located to the north of Santa Cruz. Unbelievable choice.
La Judería (c/Cano y Cueto 13): Good mid-priced restaurant for a sit down lunch.
Bodegón Pez Espada (c/Hernando Colón 8): Hugely popular and inexpensive place to eat
near the Cathedral. Excellent seafood and paella.
Barrio Triana and River Area
La Primera del Puente (c/Betis s/n): A bar with a fine terrace overlooking the river. Try the
chipirón a la plancha (grilled baby squid).
Kiosko de los Flores (c/Betis) lies at a new riverside site with a superb terrace from where
you can order great raciónes. Speciality is fried fish.
Bar Sol y Sombra (c/Castilla 151): A bar with a great bullfight tradition. Try the cola de toro
(oxtail) or cazuela Tío Pepe (stew with sherry).
Casa Ruperto (Avda. De Santa Cecilia, 2): Modest bar on the outskirts of Triana serving
outstanding cabrillas en salsa (snails in sauce).

Centro, Alameda and La Macarena
El Rinconcillo (c/Gerona 32): This is Sevilla's oldest bar (founded in 1670). An atmospheric
locale offering a limited but good selection of tapas.
Bar Eslava (c/Eslava 35): Great tapas bar near the church of San Lorenzo. Try the cordero
con miel (lamb with honey). Good restaurant next door.
Entre dos Hermandades (c/Recaredo 13): Basic bar/ restaurant near the Casa de Pilatos
offering a great value menú del día at lunchtime.
Sopa de Ganso: A versatile venue at Plaza Alfalfa that's as famous for its midday meals as for
its all-night dancing sessions when it fills up with young people of every nationality. The range
of tapas and salads are mouthwatering and their homemade cakes are delicious at coffee
time. In addition, there's an informal 3-course set meal that's very good value.
La Carbonería (c/ Levíes 18): An atmospheric venue located in a converted coalyard that
organizes exhibitions of paintings, poetry recitals, concerts and live flamenco performances.
It's divided into three sections. There's a cosy bar set around a huge open fire. There's a
typical Andalusian patio, and there's a large open bar area with tressle tables and benches
that has a small stage where you can see and hear flamenco. There is a regular calendar of
shows, exhibitions and singing and dancing classes.

Seville has plenty to offer the filmgoer, with lots of cinemas, most of them multiplexes, where it
is easy to find the film that suits you. For their spaciousness, these cinemas stand out: the
Nervión Plaza with 20 screens and Los Arcos Multicines with 12. If you like traditional
cinemas, with just one large screen, there is only one choice, the Cervantes, with beautiful
interior architecture, and if you prefer original language cinema, visit the five studios of
Avenida Multicines.
You can find the actual film program in daily local newspapers or just consult directly the
