INTRODUCTION
This document explains how to configure a proxy in AlienVault USM™.
A configuration is needed in case of using a proxy. These instructions must be made after the
product registration. The configuration can be done manually (by user) or automatic (by
alienvault-center).
2.
MANAGEMENT OF A PROXY IN ALIENVAULT AFTER REGISTRATION
In case of using a proxy, it is necessary to configure it by following the instructions below.
1.
Open a console terminal and write the following command:
ssh root@IP_address
IP_address refers to the default IP of your appliance.

The AlienVault Setup main menu appears:

On the computer keyboard, press the arrow keys to move to option 0: “System Preferences”. Then, press Enter to accept the selection (<OK>).

Move to option 0: “Configure Network”. Then, press Enter to accept the selection (<OK>).

Move to option 4: “Proxy Configuration”. Then, press Enter to accept the selection (<OK>).

You can select ‘manual’ or ‘alienvault-center’. The option is selected by pressing the “Space Bar” on the keyboard.
MANUAL PROXY CONFIGURATION
The user must configure some information in case of choosing this option.
In case of selecting ‘manual’ (see Figure 4), the following window will appear:

Enter a proxy user name and press Enter to accept (<OK>).

Enter a proxy user password. The text does not appear on the screen due to security reason. Press Enter to accept (<OK>).

Enter a proxy port and press Enter to accept (<OK>).

Enter an IP Address or a hostname and press Enter to accept (<OK>). The ‘Configure Network’ menu appears (see Figure 3). 5.
Press the arrow keys to move to <Back> option and press Enter.

The ‘System Preferences’ menu appears (see Figure 2). Press the arrow keys to move to <Back> option and press Enter.

7.
Press the arrow keys to move to option 8: “Apply all Changes”. Then, press Enter to accept the selection (<OK>).

Press Enter to accept (<Yes>). The process starts:

When the process ends, the following screen appears:

10. Press Enter to accept (<OK>).
11. The ‘AlienVault Setup’ main menu appears (see Figure 1). Press the arrow keys to move to <Exit> option and press Enter.

PROXY CONFIGURATION BY ALIENVAULT-CENTER
This option is managed through SIEM and it is not necessary a user configuration.

In case of selecting ‘alienvault-center’ (see Figure 4), the ‘Configure Network’ menu will appear (see Figure 3). Edition 02

Press the arrow keys to move to <Back> option and press Enter. 3.
Press again the arrow keys to move to <Back> option and press Enter. The AlienVault Setup main menu appears. 4.
Press the arrow keys to move to option 8: ‘Save’. Then, press Enter to accept the selection (<OK>).

Press Enter to accept (<Yes>). The process starts:

Press Enter to accept (<OK>).
