How can historic preservation be used to revitalize a downtown, borough, or city? What is worth saving when it comes to keeping the character of your community and its tie to its past? Throughout the day, you will learn techniques and tools of how to put into action plans for historic preservation that exemplify goals of community and economic vitality. Specific examples of successful projects, as well as funding opportunities will be discussed. Do not miss this great opportunity! About the Speakers Bill Callahan, Western Pennsylvania Community Preservation Coordinator for Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Bureau for Historic Preservation (BHP) The BHP is Pennsylvania’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), responsible for implementing state and federal historic preservation programs throughout the Commonwealth. Bill has twenty-five years of experience working with federal and state historic preservation programs in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Nebraska and has also worked in the private sector, for several years managing two businesses in an historic downtown. Bill represents the BHP in Pennsylvania’s western 26 counties. Through Bill the BHP provides technical preservation assistance to municipalities, advocacy groups, business groups, planning commissions, Historic Architecture Review Boards, community development advocates, Main Street and Elm Street programs and property owners. Mindy Crawford, Executive Director of Preservation Pennsylvania, Inc. Preservation Pennsylvania, Inc.is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Pennsylvania’s historic resources. Mindi has been with Preservation Pennsylvania, Inc. since 2006. In her position at Preservation Pennsylvania, Inc. she has diversified the organizations income streams and mission to increase its visibility and impact. In addition to this position, she also teaches historic preservation related courses at the Pennsylvania State University in Harrisburg and York College of Pennsylvania. Mindi has served as a consultant for several smaller historical agencies as they developed strategic plans.
